Success at The Welcome
On Friday last week we celebrated St Piran’s Day with our annual ‘Welcome’. It was a fantastic evening
which saw a great turnout of children and families from Perranporth School and the community. The
children did a wonderful job with their speaking, haka, maypole dancing, and parade - despite the best efforts of
the horrendous wind! The ceilidh in the Seiners was a lovely way to round the evening off and try out some dance
moves too. It was a very special evening and made us all feel very proud to be members of Perranporth School!
Thank you so much for supporting such a wonderful event!
World Book Day
We also celebrated World Book Day on Friday last week. We were thrilled by the fantastic efforts everybody made
with their book character costumes! We all had lots of fun trying to work out who had come as who. Earlier on in
the week, children had the opportunity to choose a teacher to read them a special book as part of our Reading
Roundabout too. It is brilliant to celebrate our love of books and reading in this fun way!
Sports News
This week Perranporth entered the Year 3 and 4 Newquay School Football Tournament. The windy weather meant
that the games had to be played indoors and with a heavy futsal ball. Our team played exceptionally well and
achieved some excellent results; 7-0 in their last game! Unfortunately Perranporth didn’t manage to qualify for the
finals but the team did represent our school brilliantly and showed excellent sporting behaviour. Very well done.
Also this week several children from Perranporth participated in the Newquay Schools Cross Country
race at Newquay Tretherras School. Our runners showed excellent determination and stamina through-
out the races and managed to achieve several top ten places at the finish line. A huge well done to the
team!

Coding Workshop
This week was also an exciting one for our keen Key Stage 1 coders. On Wednesday, several children
from Year 1 and 2 were invited to go along to Treviglas School to take part in a computer coding work-
shop. The children had an excellent time learning about debugging and how to create computer
codes. We were also very pleased that it was our very own Miss Roberson who lead the session for us
and the other Newquay Schools attending.
Well Done Jago!
This week a special mention must go to Jago in Year 5 who is raising money for the homeless by
cycling the Camel Trail dressed as a camel! On Easter Sunday, Jago will ride from Bodmin to
Padstow in aid of St Petroc's, which provides services to help homeless people across the coun-
ty, including emergency winter shelter. He has already raised a very impressive £300 but if you
would like to support him, please go to this link:https://localgiving.com/jagocameltrail
It is fantastic to see one of our pupils taking on such a fantastic challenge in the support of oth-
ers who are less fortunate. Well done Jago!
Showtime
The "Showtime" children are performing next Saturday 19th March and Sunday 20th March in Perranporth at the
Memorial Hall. All money raised from the Sunday performance will go to Esmee's charity as she was a member of
"Showtime". Seats are limited .
Earth Hour
On the 19th March the World Wildlife Fund and several of our pupils are asking
people to support Earth Hour. Earth Hour is an opportunity to switch off non-
essential lights from 8.30pm-9:30 pm to celebrate a commitment to the plan-
et. You could also have a candle lit dinner, talk to your neighbours, stargaze,
go camping, play board games, have a concert, screen an environmental
documentary post the hour, create or join a community event - the possibili-
ties are endless. To find out more details and to donate to Earth Hour, please
