Brett Nelson made it on the nightly news one time in his hometown of Charleston, South Carolina. The story was about how he’d been arrested for setting off a bomb he made out of some cleaning solution and aluminum foil in a 2-liter bottle of Mountain Dew at a church parking lot. His ex-girlfriend’s friend ratted him out and he was expelled just a couple months before high school graduation. A few years later he fled to New York where he lived in couches, closets, and homemade rooms. Once skateboarding let go of its stranglehold on Brett, he picked up a guitar and became Sweet Tooth. Since then, he’s been bastardizing blues, folk, and rock ‘n’ roll with his raw and scarily sincere songs. It seems to be the perfect outlet for Sweet Tooth to deal with his ever-complicated relationship with God, the South, and women that’s been haunting him ever since the first bomb went off.
