    Resistance Temperature Detector - RTD

Introducing the first temperature display that providesfirefighters with accurate feedback of the environmen-tal temperature. The rugged RTD sensor monitors thetemperature of the environment firefighters routinelyencounter. The RTD accurately senses temperaturereadings up to 1,000o F with the reading displayed ona large LED readout. Temperature information is easyto read in a dimly lit or smoke filled environment. TheRTD temperature readout can be displayed in Centi-grade or Fahrenheit. An audible warning is activatedwhen firefighters are exposed to potentially danger-ous temperatures. A time weighted average of heatexposure activates the audible heat alarm when theenvironmental conditions reach predetermined lev-els. The SuperPASSTM 3 RTD feature is available onlyon Model SP3-RTD.

Integrated Temperature DetectorSuperPASSTM 3, Model SP3-H, is available with inte-grated temperature sensing. This internal sensormonitors thermal inertia exposure. When thefirefighter exceeds a predetermined time weightedaverage temperature threshold, the audible heat alarmis activated.

Approximate response times for optional IntegratedTemperature Detector:

    350o F 6 Minutes 250o F 9 Minutes

    300o F 7 Minutes 200o F 12 Minutes

    * Response times listed are approximate due to the vari-ance of environment factors and the thermal heat sensingsystem.

The Accountability Storage Key is an added benefitof Grace Industries SuperPASSTM 3. The clear Iden-tification Window provides the opportunity to spe-cifically identify the user through the ability to per-sonalize the keys with photos, names, numbers, de-partment ID, bar-codes, etc. The clear access windoweasily snaps into place to protect the enclosed infor-mation and provide instant access for rapid identifi-cation.

When the Accountability Key is removed,SuperPASSTM 3 turns On, and the operationalsignal is heard. A visual green LED wig-wag displayindicates that the SuperPASSTM 3 unit is in theSensing mode.

DesignSuperPASSTM 3 was designed and tested to meet thelife safety needs of firefighters. It is third party certi-fied Compliant to NFPA 1982, Standard on PersonalAlert Safety Systems (PASS), 2007 Edition.

Meets or exceeds the 2007 Edition StandardRequirements for PASS

Motion DetectionGrace Industries employs a NEW state of the artmethod of detecting motion. This solid-state, 3-axis

accelerometer senses a broad range of motion andis not position sensitive. This results in fewer falsealerts which are common in similar motiondetectors.

VisibilityGrace Industries specializes in integration of high in-tensity LEDs that illuminate from inside the case, causing the PASS to glow. These LEDs strobe, flashand pulsate indicating PASS status; Sensing, Pre-alert and Alarm Modes. These colors and patternsinclude those that are most easily recognized.

Sound Intensity and Sound DiscernabilityDual resonating sound cavities produce 95+dBA,making SuperPASSTM 3 the loudest NFPA CompliantStand-alone PASS available to the fire service. Moreimportant, the sound signature is designed to gener-ate multiple tones that sweep through a range of 500- 4,000 Hz. This sound signature incorporates a mo-mentary pause every 4 seconds, allowing the PASSto be identified and tracked audibly.

DurabilityGraces new generation of PASS products were re-engineered to meet the rigorous durability require-ments of the fire service. The primary function of theprotective translucent silicone cover protects thePASS from severe impact, vibration and the adverseeffects of high temperature exposure. The Radel plas-tic enclosure is a high temperature advanced poly-mer which protects the PASS from exposure to mois-ture, chemicals and other hostile agents.

Attachment MethodsTwo methods of attachment are provided for ease ofuse. The time tested wire clip easily captures andsecurely holds the PASS to SCBA straps. Or use theSA-clip that enables the end user to easily attachthe PASS to turn-out gear in a stand-alone configu-ration for use without an SCBA.

Data-LoggingThe SuperPASS 3 automatically records a data-logof all PASS status change events. The data-log isstored in non-volatile memory and can be retrievedvia the infrared port on the PASS by utilizing the Gracedata-log retrieval software. The required data-logevents are time and date stamped down to 1 secondresolution. The last 8,192 events are stored.

  • Battery Installation/ Replacement

To reduce the risk of ignition of a flammable atmosphere, batteries must only be changed in an area known to benon-flammable. To change batteries, remove the twoscrews securing the back. Remove back cover, discon-nect and dispose of the spent batteries and insert newbatteries.

Important: To preserve the internal date & timesetting, batteries must be replaced within 3 min-utes of removing the exhausted batteries.

Prior to replacing the back, apply a light coating ofsilicone grease to the O-ring. Then apply a light coat-ing of silicone grease to the inside (mating/sealing)edge of the case. As a guideline, when applying sili-cone grease to the O-ring (and case), you shouldbe able to feel grease on your fingers, and see athin film on the O-ring and sealing surface of thecase. Do not use an excessive amount of grease.Excess grease can attract dirt which could com-promise the battery compartment seal.

Line up the mating/sealing edges of the back andcase. Carefully press the back into place. Secure backby hand tightening both screws. Do not over tighten.

WARNING Always use the specified AA 1.5 volt al-kaline battery. Duracell MN1500 is recommended foroptimum performance, as other batteries may not pro-vide the same operating life. Replacing the batteriesevery six months is required unless indicated before bythe Low Battery Alarm. The Low Battery Alarm willsound when the batteries have been exhausted to 20%of capacity (indicating approx. 1 hour operating timeremains). Immediate replacement of the batteries isnecessary when the low battery alarm sounds.

When the PASS is in Sensing Mode, the low bat-tery alarm is easily recognized by an alternating dis-play of green and yellow LEDs, accompanied by aseries of two audio beep tones enunciated every 23seconds. Grace Industries, Inc. assumes no liability formechanical, electrical or other types of battery failure.Warning - substitution of components may impairintrinsic safety. After battery replacement, alwaystest SuperPASS3 to insure proper operation.

    SuperPASS3SuperPASS3 Operating Instructions

SuperPASS3 is an Auto On, Personal Alert Safety System (PASS). The Auto On fea-ture insures that the SuperPASS3 is turned on Auto-matically when removed from a storage position.

When removed from a storage position, Super PASS 3Accountability Storage Key automatically pops off, acti-vating the unit into Sensing Mode (motion sensing). When the SuperPASS3 turns ON, an operational sig-nal (escalating series of loud, attention getting audiotones) will be heard, accompanied by a visual alternat-ing display of four green LEDs. The alternating displayindicates that SuperPASS3 is in the Sensing Mode. Ifthe PASS is motionless for a few seconds, the greenLEDs will cease the alternating display and flash intoopposing corners until the PASS is moved or enters Pre-Alert.

After lack of motion for approximately 18 to 23 sec-onds, the unit will go into Pre-Alert and a 12 secondsweeping Pre-Alert audio signal will be heard, accom-panied by an alternating green and yellow LED display. The longer the unit is in Pre-Alert, the louder the sweep-ing pre-alert signal becomes signifying the unit is closerto going into Alarm. When there is lack of motion forapproximately 30 to 35 seconds, the unit will go intoAlarm Mode. When in Alarm, the Pre-Alert LED dis-play is replaced by a rapid pulsing of four red LEDsaccompanied by a rapid modulated loud audio Alarmsignal. This alerts personnel in the immediate area thatassistance may be needed.

While in Sensing Mode, SuperPASS3 may be putinto Alarm at any time by manually pressing the alarmbutton located on front surface of unit. Once in alarm, the unit can be reset or returned to the Sensing Modeby simply pressing both side buttons simultaneously. Toturn SuperPASS 3 OFF, replace the AccountabilityStorage Key and press both side buttons simultaneously.

    Accountability Key

An added benefit of the Grace PASS is the Account-ability Storage Key. The clear Identification Window pro-vides the opportunity for specific identity of aSuperPASS 3 user through the ability to personalizekeys with pictures, names, numbers, dept. ID, bar-codes,etc. The clear access window easily snaps into place toprotect enclosed information and provide instant accessfor quick identification should the need arise.

SuperPASS 3 should be securely attached to a ver-tical strap on the upper left or right shoulder, in thehorizontal position with the sound port facing out tothe side or on the right hip area (See Figure 1).

Each member involved in rescue, fire suppression, or other hazardous duties shall be provided with and shall use a PASS device in the hazardous area1500. All personnel should be thoroughly familiar with and trained in proper op-eration of SuperPASS 3 prior to field use. Always test SuperPASS3 prior to use. Failure to do so may expose the user to serious injury or loss of life.

LimitationsSuperPASS 3 is engineered to meet the design and

performance requirements for personal alert safety sys-tems (PASS) to be used by firefighters engaged in res-cue, fire fighting and other hazardous duties.

Failure to ensure that SuperPASS 3 is fully operational prior to use, may expose the user to serious injury or loss of life. There is no inherent guarantee against PASS failure. Even the best PASS cannot com-pensate for abuse or lack of a PASS training and mainte-nance program.

Although SuperPASS3 can be checked for properoperation, most performance properties of the PASS

cannot be tested by the end user in the field.
