Dear Friends, “No matter how long the Winter, Spring is sure to follow.” (Proverb)Since our last newsletter, we have enjoyed many entertaining and educational events. Atour winter general meeting, Paula Scofield and Bettina Hennessy treated us to a fun,informative and romantic program featuring Dr. Elizabeth New Seitz. While the earlyFebruary weather was challenging, it did not dampen our spirits or determination.Mother Nature finally cooperated, giving us a beautiful day for the February 8th

Valentine‟s Tea featuring Caroline Rose Hunt, her daughter and granddaughters.Thanks to Women‟s Council members Glenda Cotner, Katherine Phillips, CynthiaCathcart, Linda Spina and all of the incredible committee for creating the perfectatmosphere for the Valentine‟s Tea. Charlotte Kimberlin planned a fun event,“Cooking with Flowers,” on February 10th that was enjoyed by all.

Helen Tieber will be organizing the Spring volunteer day at the Arboretum. If you are interested inhelping, please contact Helen. On April 8th, Charlotte Kimberlin and her merry band of travelers willleave for Charleston, South Carolina for a wonderful visit to this city‟s beautiful and historic sites andgardens. Susan Walker and the Mad Hatter‟s committee have been hard at work preparing for aspectacular event, “A Wonderland of Fashion,” to be held on April 21st. Many thanks go to Dee Wyly forher generosity as the Presenting Sponsor for the 23rd annual Mad Hatter‟s Tea Party. A wonderful Patronparty is being planned, so please consider purchasing a patron level ticket in order to receive an invitation.Tuesday, May 3rd will be the Spring Annual meeting and Tea. Kay Weeks is planning a wonderfulmeeting and tea while Bettina Hennessy is promising a very entertaining program. Jewel Williamsis busy organizing the final Women‟s Council event for the 2010 – 2011 year, the “Founder’s AwardCelebration”, which will be held on Wednesday evening, May 11th at the DeGolyer House. Thanks also toCarole Boss, who again did such an outstanding job of organizing our Spring Bulb Sale. We have sharedin so many wonderful events already as we raised funds for A Woman’s Garden. I am looking forward atthe wonderful events still to come!

Charlotte Kimberlin has planned a special Spring trip to visitthe historical private plantations, homes and gardens ofCharleston, SC. All 24 spaces for this trip are sold, though you maywant to put your name on a waiting list. The Historic CharlestonFoundation has made all of the tour arrangements, which includevisiting Middleton Place Plantation Garden (1741), NathanialRussell House (1808), Aiken Rhett House (1820) and more.Charleston will be celebrating 150 years since the end of the CivilWar and the 64th Annual Festival of Homes and Gardens. Mrs. Martha Baker is a charter member (since 1982) of the Women's Council of the DallasArboretum, has held various positions on the Women's Council Board of Directors and served onnumerous committees. Mr. Willard Baker had served on the Board of Directors and various committeesfor the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Society, Inc. Additionally, Mr. Baker was on the committee forthe Women's Council that conceptualized the idea of a garden to be built by the Women's Council. Hisprofession as a Land Developer was instrumental in helping the Women's Council in the selection of thelandscape architect to design our garden. He was very instrumental in assisting the Women's Council inthe process of creating a garden. Price for the Founders Award reception and dinner is $80 per person or$150 for patron level reservation. Spring Volunteer Day – Wednesday, March 16th

Volunteer Day Chairman, Helen Tieber, invites members toparticipate in the Spring Volunteer Day, which will take placeduring the Dallas Arboretum & Botanical Garden‟s “DallasBlooms” (March 5th – April 10th). Recognized as „One of theTop 14 Places in the World to See Spring Flowers‟ byMSN.com in 2010, Dallas Blooms is the largest floral festivalin the southwest with over 500,000 spring-blooming bulbs:tulips, daffodils and hyacinths abound in the 66 acre garden.Volunteers meet at the historic 21,000 square foot Spanish
