28th September 2012

Dear Sisters,

The New Year for Lajna will insha’Allah be starting in October. I wanted to begin by thanking all of you for your hard efforts with the fourth year of the ten year running 10% campaign. Last year we mentioned that much of the media attention had been focussing on issues that related directly to women in Islam. This year, you will have noticed that Islam is still under attack. The burning of the Holy Quran, caricature of Hadrath Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) in news papers in different countries around the world have been published and films about our Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) has been released in the USA and spread through the internet around the globe. This action of freedom of speech has been condemned by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat and as Lajna Imaillah it is our duty to defend our beloved Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) to the best of our ability and as Ahmadi Muslim women we can help bring a stop to such attacks by contacting the media and telling them about the beautiful teachings of our Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) of Islam. However it is very important to remember that any views which are given to the media are your own views and do not represent Jamaat’s view. It is also advisable that you have your articles checked by the Central Tabligh department or your Local Sadar Sahiba.

I would like to draw your attention to Hudhur’s (aba) address which was delivered to Lajna Imaillah at Jalsa Salana Germany 2012 and I quote: “Regarding Tabligh I would like to mention that the ladies and the girls should always do tabligh to the ladies and the boys should preach to boys and the girls to the girls. The Khuddamul Ahmadiyya gives reports of how many hundreds thousands of leaflets they have been distributed but Lajna does not report how many hundreds and thousands of leaflets they have been distributed. Ladies can do tabligh to ladies. I know that some of you might be doing it but the way the preaching to the ladies through the ladies should be done is not there yet. Instead of following the fashion you should be filled with the passion of religion, than there will be no time left to think about the worldly possessions and your action will become an action to get the pleasure of the Allah the Almighty. Today the world is looking for you the people are going astray. Although there is need for men to go more in the field of tabligh but at the same time the ladies should make use of their faculties and they should make full use of the field of tabligh. Instead of demand of the parents to buy us items to fulfil your worldly desire, your demand should be to go out for tabligh to show the right path to the people. Because of the interest of the ladies in tabligh it will generate interest in men as well. They people in Germany are interested and are paying attention to Islam therefore you ladies are the one who can tell them the true teachings of Islam and can become useful people for their guidance.” Please read this Address during your meetings and remind the Lajna that Tabligh is a duty for every Lajna member in the Jamaat and we have to say ‘labaiq’ to Hudhur’s speech.

We have updated the tabligh syllabus, which you will insha’Allah find useful. It should be referred to on a regular basis in order to help increase your Tabligh efforts. We are always keen to hear about any new initiatives that you are taking in the field of tabligh, so please do let us know about them.

May Allah the Almighty help us in the field of tabligh, and may we all be able to give 100% to this important responsibility that has been placed upon our shoulders. Ameen. Wasalam National Tabligh Secretary

RESPONSIBILITY OF A TABLIGH SECRETARY

And who is better in speech than he who invites men to Allāh and does righteous deeds and says, ‘I am surely of those who submit.’ And good and evil are not alike. Repel evil with that which is best. And lo, he between whom and thyself was enmity, will become as though he were a warm friend. But none is granted it save those who are steadfast; and none is granted it save those who possess a large share of good. (Holy Qur’ān, 41[Hā Mīm Sajdah]:34-36) Preaching is the sacred obligation assigned by Allah to all the prophets, His dearest servants. This divine tradition shows the importance as well as significance of tablīgh and it is an obligation of every member of the Jama’at to become a Dā‘ī ilallāh and make it your primary duty to call the world to the true religion chosen by Allah.

This tabligh syllabus has an overall objective to provide some guidelines, ideas and understanding of doing tabligh. It is your duty as the Secretary Tabligh to promote

the Da’wat ilallah program. You should persuade the maximum number of lajna members to undertake this basic responsibility. With this comes the responsibility to provide adequate literature and information to members of Lajna Imaillah to counter arguments and campaigns against Islam and Ahmadiyyat, successfully.” You need to focus on proactive tabligh; create an understanding of who we are as Muslim; dispel misconceptions and move people toward recognizing Allah correctly. You need to work together to foster connections, prepare discussion topics (topics are provided), hold interfaith seminars, coffee mornings, etc. You need to be well versed in local phraseology. You should use common Urdu phrases when speaking to people from Pakistan. Similarly, if your program is aimed at the youth then have the youth address them if possible.

“The Promised Messiah (a.s.) made it clear; it is our responsibility to try and work according to our individual capacities and capabilities for the purpose for which he was sent.” (Khutba Tabligh & Revival of Islam. 4-9-2010)

As part of your duty as a tabligh secretary it is important that you deliver your monthly reports on time. RESOURCES • Books & pamphlets • Muslim Sunrise & Review of Religions • DVDs • Faith Matters • You-Tube • Real Talk • Internet: Alislam.org or Lajnausa.net • Sermons and Q & A of Khulafa • You & me (personal experiences)

I would like to remind you what The Promised Messiah (as) said: “If it was my power, I would knock on the door of every house just like a beggar, in order to spread the true word of God so that the people may be saved from disbelief and atheistic tendencies, which is prevalent all over the world. If God were to teach me English, then I would go around and propagate His Message even if it means that I may have to sacrifice my life in the process!” (Malfoozat vol.3 page 291)

The 10% Campaign By the grace of Allah the 10% is coming into its 4th year. This campaign was initiated by Huudhur (aba) as to introduce the message of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Association to the population of the UK. You may have seen some of the activities that have already been taking place for this campaign on a Jama’at level, e.g. bus campaigns, articles in the media, radio programmes, door-to-door leaflets etc.

Lajna have been asked to distribute leaflets to: Schools, Libraries, GP surgeries and Hospitals. The Central Lajna Tabligh Department has details of over 55,000 such organisations, all of whom need to be contacted over the next 6 years.

Regional Monitors should send their monthly reports back to the main centre by the 25th of each month.

The difference between a Tabligh MEETING and a Tabligh WORKSHOP

Mashallah every month we find out through your reports that many Tabligh meetings and workshops were held. However, not everyone is clear as to the difference between the two, so in order to clarify: Tabligh MEETING – A Tabligh meeting is where you will: Brainstorm what types of tabligh activities could be carried out. Discuss what tasks need to be completed and by whom for coming events Produce materials for tabligh e.g. posters, bookmarks, leaflets etc. Tabligh WORKSHOP – A Tabligh workshop is when you are ‘training’ members – ideally all members of your majlis should be encouraged to attend, as tabligh is the duty of all members. Here are some examples of what can be done in workshops: Recent issues in the media – if you collect articles from the media a workshop can be held about what to do next. For example recently the tragic Lahore mosque attacks have been in the western media. A workshop could be held to help train members of your majlis on what should be done next. For this, the tabligh team would do their research, possibly in tabligh meetings, and then present it to all; i.e. contacting the media and how to go about it, school talks, a seminar, contacting MPs etc. Another common issue that has been in the media a lot over the past few years that you could focus on is the veil and the rights of women in Islam.

How to hold a School Talk – there are many Lajna members conducting school talks at present – it is a good idea to hold some workshops demonstrating how to hold school talks and encouraging others to do so too. Any topic to do with any religion or a particular sect – e.g. facts about Christianity/Buddhism/ Sikhism/Hinduism etc. The focus can also be to do with our Jamaat e.g. proof about the coming of Imam Mahdi and the Promised Messiah (as), The Holy Prophet (saw), Death of Jesus (as), Jihad, Ramadhan & Eid etc. Any topic that is frequently asked about can be discussed – you can use question and answer sessions, leaflets, books etc. Try to make it as interesting and as interactive as possible. If you have knowledgeable Jamaat scholars whom you are able to invite to your meetings you may want to invite them to talk about specific topics. It tends to be useful to keep ‘minutes of meetings’. You should keep a copy of these minutes in your Tabligh Folder (previously given to the Tabligh Secretary by the Central Tabligh Department). From these minutes you can make a report to send to the centre. If you hold a successful workshop, please send in any material e.g. worksheets, PowerPoint presentations, research etc. to the Central Tabligh Department so that it can be passed onto others that wish to hold workshops also.

How to conduct a one to one sitting

This guide contains on how to conduct sittings and meetings for the purpose of Tabligh. This information will help you in the following:

Planning for the sitting Building relationships The one to one sitting These sittings will involve inviting non Ahmadi/ Non Muslim friends to your home with a genuine intention of Tabligh.

Planning:

To truly reach the beautiful teaching of Islam, we must include our up most effort and above all place emphasis on prayer. As Ahmadi Muslims we should be constantly seeking guidance from Allah in our prayers. The following should be done on a regular basis:

Offering Sadqa Special Tahjjud Prayers Writing letters to Huzoor (aba) requesting for prayers in your success for Tabligh. In planning you must remember that 1-1 sittings are not achieved overnight. It is a process that is achieved through stages. Tabligh contacts should not be considered as numbers in order to achieve Bai’ats, as Allah states in the Holy Qur’an: “There is no compulsion in religion.” (3:257). However, it is our responsibility to share the beautiful teachings of Islam with others and to re-educate those who have misguided thoughts/information about their beliefs.

Scenarios: How to deal with certain situations

A conversation with a work colleague/ fellow student turns away from war in Iraq, to terrorism, to suicide bombings and then Islam. They have a differing opinion about each topic, but are willing to hold a conversation.

Firstly, listen to their opinion and views, no matter how degrading and hurtful it may be. Wait patiently and wait for them to finish. Never shout or raise your voice, to show negative emotion is to portray Islam in a negative light. Be positive in your response. Always state that you respect and understand the point of view they are expressing if it is sensible. Make sure that your answers are backed with accurate knowledge, and never state that someone is wrong, but merely they are misinformed, misguided or simply that you have a different opinion. This reduces conflict and allows the conversation to become a progressive and productive session without creating offence to anyone.

A very modestly dressed, friend/colleague/mother approaches you and asks you if you are hot wearing a coat and scarf and asks if it necessary for you to be wearing all those layers.

Again, first listen to what they have to say before you respond. Ask them what they interpretation and understating of purdah/hijab is. This gives you an opportunity to construct an appropriate response. Be prepared for a negative response as most people see a hijab as a restriction upon women’s freedom. However, we can prove from our own sisters who have been successful in their respective fields that it is not a hindrance, but a protection of their modesty.

Easting a restaurant meal with a non-Muslim friend, she asks about the difference between halal and non-halal meat and why we don’t eat pork.

The three main reasons are, 1) we slaughter in the name of Allah, not for sport and game. 2) Halal meat is clean because we sever the main artery so that all blood and impurities that can cause illness are washed out. 3) Also by cutting the main

Page 23: Tabligh Syllabus - Lajna tabligh syllabus 2012... · Tabligh Syllabus 2012-2013 Lajna Imaillah UK Page 3 In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Ever Merciful 28th September 2012 Dear

artery, the animal dies a quick and humane death. The reasons why we don’t eat pork are because, it consumes the flesh of other animals and is own young and it is an animal content in living in its own dirt.

Your child’s teacher asks why in Islam two women need to sign documents instead of one man and why do women inherit less in wills.

These are both highly misinterpreted Islamic teachings. It must be stressed that neither teaching translates that a woman’s status is half that of a man. On the contrary, it is a protection for a woman and her decision to sign an agreement/contract/statement or witness testimony for 2 reasons. 1) Allah is aware that men be they husbands, fathers, brothers etc are all capable or persuading and coercing women into a decision. 2) The reason why women receive less in wills is because their money/wealth belongs to them and they are not financially responsible for others. Married women are taken under the financial care of their husbands whilst un-married women are under the care of their fathers. Men therefore receive more because in every capacity they are expected to play the financial carer. You should also include that these rights and privileges were given to women long before the secular west gave women their freedoms through the plights of the suffragettes.

Record Keeping

It is important to keep note of the following:

Who your contact is When and how often you have been in touch with them What topic areas have been discussed Any literature, videos or tapes are given
