RFID Tag Performance on Tagged I tems
Managing RFID tag performance in reta i l environment
is challenging. The RF performance of tagged items
may vary greatly due to different UHF RFID labels
used, d i fferent materials of the items, and different
ways the items are displayed. The tagged items
should fulfi ll the set performance requirements in
d iverse retai l settings, so that interrogators can read
the tags reliably in various applications.
Tagged-I tem Grading
Tagged-I tem Grading is a way to communicate the
performance requirements between retai lers,
suppliers and technology providers.
Tagged-I tem Grading is a measurable and comparable
set of RFID tag performance quali ties for tagged
items. Tagged-I tem Grading establishes a common
language and a common test procedure to achieve
successful and reliable RFID operations. Retai lers can
choose grade levels suitable for their operations, and
communicate the Tagged-I tem Grades to their
suppliers. Common and well-defined tagged item
performance criteria remove uncertainties and help
RFID implementation.

Tagformance Tagged-I tem Grading System
The Tagformance Tagged-I tem Grading system is
1 00% aligned with the GS1 Tagged-I tem Grading
concept and the related test methodology. The
Tagformance system simpli fies complex RF tests and
brings high quali ty testing to the reach of anyone.
Testing time is reduced to only a few minutes.
Automated test procedures, open fi le formats and
clear reporting ensure that the results are accurate
and the test data can be easi ly shared between
retai lers and their suppliers.
Tagged-I tem Grading provides clear information of
which grades the tagged item passes, and which
detai led test fa i ls i f one of the grades is fa i led .
Grade verification is a fast way to check if a tagged
item passes or fai ls the selected grade.
System Components and Variants
Voyantic offers three system configurations for
i tems of d ifferent size: free space between the
antenna and the testing point is ei ther 50 cm, 1 00 cm
or 1 50 cm. The measurement is made in a
measurement cabinet or chamber using a rotation
table and four antennas.

existing testing system with any of the main
