Disadvantages:Disadvantages:

• The huge oil revenue The huge oil revenue provides little incentive for provides little incentive for the government to the government to diversify its economydiversify its economy

• Oil revenue is highly Oil revenue is highly inflationary (Angola is inflationary (Angola is expensive….like Norway!!!)expensive….like Norway!!!)

Angola Petro-Economy

Problem: An oil company can announce that they

are investing $10 billion in an oil project in Angola but 90% of the money is spent outside (drill rigs in Korea, tankers in Japan, drill pipe made in USA, etc etc

For that reason it is very important for the government to foster industries in Angola like rigs fabrication, pipe welding facilities like Angloflex since it employs Angolans and is technology transfer
