Dear parents, carers and friends of our school,
We are already in Week 6. Time flies when you are having fun and learning! I have had the opportunity to visit some classrooms last week and it is amazing to see the work students are producing. I was excited to read some Kindergarten writing and could def-initely see them all displaying Respect, Responsibility and Excellence in the classroom. Next week on Tuesday staff will be having an extended afternoon of professional learn-ing. We will be focusing on the School Plan and PBL. This extended professional learn-ing afternoon will be one of many this year. This will allow the staff to finish at the same time as your children in Term 4.
TELL THEM FROM ME SURVEY (TTFM)
I am delighted that this term, our school, like many other public schools in the state, will participate in a Department of Education initiative: the Tell Them From Me student feedback survey. The survey measures factors that are known to affect academic achievement and other student outcomes. The focus of the NSW-wide survey is on stu-dent wellbeing, engagement and effective teaching practices.
More information about the survey is available at: http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au
The survey is a great opportunity for our students to provide us with valuable and quick feedback on what they think about school life, how engaged they are with school and the different ways that teachers interact with them. More than 6,300 schools in Austral-ia and around the world have used Tell Them From Me to survey 5.4 million students. Capturing the voices of our students will help improve how we do things at our school.
I want to assure you that the survey is confidential. The survey is conducted online and will typically take less than 30 minutes to complete. It will be administered during school hours between 9 March and 8 May. Participating in the survey is entirely volun-tary. A consent form and FAQs for parents/carers about the survey is being sent home with students.
SPECIAL RELIGIOUS EDUCATION and SPECIAL EDUCATION IN ETHICS
Last week our Scripture and Ethics Program started. We are currently running a scrip-ture class for each year level (K-6) and an Ethics program for Stage 2 and Stage 3. There are still some places left in Stage 3 Ethics and spaces in all our SRE classes.
Ethics classes support children to develop life-long skills for making well-reasoned deci-sions about ethical issues. Students learn to disagree respectfully, to challenge ideas and to support their arguments with considered evidence rather than according to habit or peer pressure.
These skills are particularly relevant as they move towards high school and beyond. For information on the Primary Ethics program visit www.primaryethics.com.au.
Please contact Rechell Parker at Shoal Bay PS for more information on SEE or SRE. All students not participating in either Scripture or Ethics will be supervised in class and will complete meaningful activities such as reading.
Christian SRE enables students to discover more about the Christian faith by examining the Bible, Church teaching and the faith experience of others. In a world with lots of choices, it helps students grasp what it means to live and choose well, be in a relation-ship with God and to embrace a life of service for others. SRE is fun, engaging and age-appropriate. The teachers use a variety of modern teaching methods to deliver the au-thorised curriculum. For further info, contact Stephen Price on 0417 679 458 or email [email protected]. See the office about enrolling into SRE.
URGENT: We only have 38% of
parents who have paid the resource packs. Can we get
some payments coming in soon. Our school relies on these
payments. Thanks to those who have paid.

CLEAN UP AUSTRALIA DAY
On Friday afternoon, all the students went around and collected a lot of rubbish around the school. Well done to all the students for keeping Australia beautiful one piece of rubbish at a time.
PAYMENTS IN TERM 1
Thank you to the parents/carers who have already paid. This year our school contribution remains at $70. This money enables us to provide much needed resources for your children in the classrooms as well as their Mathletics subscription.
School contributions can be paid in smaller instalments. All payments can be made online using the POP payment system or at our school office.
Hi my name is Summer Doro and I am 11 years old. I have two sisters and a puppy, we love to go four wheel driving on the beach to swim and play in the sand. I love hanging out with my friends and dancing. This year I am dancing at The Royal Easter Show with my dance group.
My favourite subjects are History, Maths, Science and PE. I love participating in the athletics carnivals at school because I love to run. So far I am really enjoying being one of Shoal Bay Public School’s Parliamentarians as one of the Ministers of Functions and Events. Thank you!
Parent Literacy Session
For all Kindergarten parents, Miss Powell will be holding two literary sessions.
