Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 restrictions we will not be allowing any guests at this event. We have arranged for the students who receive an award to have a professional photo taken by Lauren Jones Photography and these photos will be given to the parent or carer. School Excellence Cycle Situation Analysis The staff have finished the first step in the School Excellence cycle. Dear parents, carers and friends of our school,

I am looking forward to this Thursday 10 December we will be holding our annual Presentation Day. It is a significant day in our school calendar where we celebrate the learning of children from Kindergarten to Year 6 and induct the new student parliament for 2021. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 restrictions we will not be allowing any guests at this event. The staff at Shoal Bay PS apologise for any inconvenience but the most important thing is the health and safety of the students and teachers. We have arranged for the students who receive an award to have a professional photo taken by Lauren Jones Photography and these photos will be given to the parent or carer.

School Excellence Cycle Situation Analysis

The staff have finished the first step in the School Excellence cycle. This is the situation analysis, which is a key component in developing the Strategic Improvement Plan. During the P&C Committee meeting I am looking forward to presenting our findings from the situation analysis to anyone that would be interested. It will be held at Shoal Bay PS on Tuesday, 8 December at 5:30pm. We would love for as many of you to be involved in sharing the information and findings with parents and carers.

Year 6 Farewell

We are looking forward to our 2020 Year 6 Farewell on Tuesday, 15 December which will be held at school this year. Unfortunately, Year 5 will not be joining Year 6 for the second half of the evening as they would normally do. Parents and guardians of Year 6 students keep an eye out for a note which has specific information for you regarding the farewell. It will come home this week.

Year 6 High School Visits

Over the last few weeks Year 6 students have been attending orientation days to a number of high schools. It is a very exciting time for our Year 6 students as they get a glimpse of their new schools for the first time. Our students have exhibited excellent behaviour on these visits and have received praise from the high school staff. A big thank you to Mrs Perry for co-ordinating the visits with Tomaree High School.

Year 6 Clap Out

On the last day of school, we will have our Year 6 clap out. Again, like most things this year, it will look a little different. We have made provisions for Year 6 parents and guardians to be able to participate in this tradition. Year 6 parents and guardians, you will receive information about the time and exact location within the school.

Term 4 Week 9| Mon 7 Dec 2020

Starting School in 2021

School staff begin on Wednesday 26 January. On this day we will be having a Staff Development Day (SDD). The focus of our training will be on Visible Learning and will be held at Grahamstown PS. On Thursday 27 January staff will have another SDD at Shoal Bay PS and we will be looking at a variety of different areas and planning for 2021. Kindergarten to Year 6 will begin school on Friday 29 January and this will be Week 1 for all students. Kindergarten will have a staggered starting time on the first few days of Week 1 and Week 2. Kindergarten students will receive a separate note regarding this.

Our Kindergarten students for 2021 will have their Best Start Interviews a few weeks into the school term. Our School contribution costs will remain at $70 for 2021. The major events planned for Term 1 include our swimming, athletics and cross country carnivals. In Term 3 we will once again be involved in the Dance2bfit program which will culminate in a whole school concert at the end of the term. Payment for this program will occur in Term 2. All these activities will be subject to the health and safety regulations.

End of Year

School concludes for all students on Wednesday 16 December. This will be the last day for all staff as well because staff participated in long SDD during the year so they did not have to come in on this day.

Staffing for 2021

In 2021 we will have four Assistant Principals who are Peter Hamshaw, Dom Parker, Kym Powell and Rebecca White. Kylie Allardice will continue to take leave in 2021 and I will be Relieving Principal next year again.

Kindergarten Orientation

Shoal Bay PS will have the last Kindergarten Orientation day will be this week on Tuesday, 8 December. All parents have received an email of the orientation schedule. Parents with children participating in the orientation, have also been personally contacted by phone. Orientation will begin at 1:45pm and conclude at 2:45pm. We are looking forward to seeing you for this very exciting event.

Proud Teacher Moment

The abandoned town by Ellie 3/4C

The water rippled gently in the peaceful lagoon. Tiny waves were pushed onto the soft sand. Kara could feel the hot breeze surrounding her. She walked to the lagoon, the water was up to her ankles releasing the heat in her body. Looking out across the lagoon, breathing deeply, Kara inhaled the scent of the sea breeze.

Kara’s silky, night, blue dress swayed around when a sudden cold breeze gave her goosebumps. Her soft, pink cheeks were warm. Her eyelashes flickered when she blinked. A gentle breeze pushed her black hair up. The wind was easy to feel when it hugged her ancient fingers.

Shining down, the sun started to sink down. Once again the moon shined, it nearly blinded Kara. When she looked away it became dark. She looked back only to see dark clouds covering the moon. All the sudden hard rain came down flooding the lagoon.

BAM! Lighting bolts came crashing down nearly hitting Kara. Running into a white building Kara quickly closes the crumbling doors. Tears ran down her eyes. ”Kara?” said a familiar voice. “Mum?”
