Tēna koutou katoa - Greetings to you all Welcome back Taite ! I am thrilled to welcome Taite Lentfer back to our school after 20 weeks away recovering from ADEM. Taite has spent time at Starship Hospital and at the Wilson Centre in Takapuna. He has made incredible progress and it is wonderful to see him back in class with his friends. Thank you to everyone who has helped Taite with his recovery. Please do come and support the PTA’s Family Movie Night fundrais- er on Friday 18th September if you are able (more details to follow). Ohaupo Speech Competition Well done to all of our students for the exceptional effort put into the school’s speech competition this year. The finals were held last Friday evening and were well supported by parents, grandparents, siblings and the wider community. The winners of each year level were as follows: Year 1 Ruben Paul - ‘Soccer’; Year 2 Amelia Burnell - ‘New Plymouth’; Year 3 Xanthe Wooten - ‘Development Technologist’; Year 4 Makayla Hoggart - ‘Swimming in the Sea’; Year 5 Izzy Roberts - ‘A Message for my Parents’; Year 6 Alice Taylor - ‘Understanding Me’; Year 7 Sam Stewart - ‘Don’t Get Shot!’; Year 8 Tyler Hallam-Doole - ‘6 Years to Extinction’. Congratulations to our overall winner, Tyler Hallam-Doole, who won the Ōhaupō Speech Trophy and to Sam Stewart who was placed run- ner-up. Huge thanks to our judges for their time and expertise. Thank you to all of the parents and caregivers who gave invaluable support and enthusiasm as well as bringing a shared supper, and to the PTA who helped with providing refreshments for all of our students, par- ents and visitors. Lower Waipa Speech Competition This Thursday, 3rd September, we are hosting the Lower Waipa Speech competition. We will have 11 schools attending to compete for the trophies, with the following students representing Ōhaupō School: Izzy Roberts, Sam Veart - Year 5; Alice Taylor, Sam Shaw - Year 6; Sophie Webber, Sam Stewart - Year 7; Elizabeth Archer, Tyler Hallam-Doole - Year 8. The finalists must meet at the school hall by 6:30pm on Thursday. It is very important that everyone arrives on time for a prompt start. The students will present their speeches in the classrooms and the winner and runner-up of each year level will receive a certificate. When all of the students in the group have presented, we will move to the hall where the PTA will provide a cup of tea. Could the students who have been selected to present their speech please bring a packet of biscuits or a few muffins to share. After the break, the winners of each year level will then present their speeches again in the hall to find an overall winner. This is always a great evening and your support to our stu- dents is invaluable. Everyone is welcome, please feel free to invite friends and extended family. Tēna koutou katoa - Greetings to you all

Welcome back Taite ! I am thrilled to welcome Taite Lentfer back to our school after 20 weeks away recovering from ADEM. PTA News It’s Movie Time ... Come along and watch a movie with your friends, on Friday 18th September at 7pm in the school hall. Please help us raise funds for Taite Lentfer’s rehabilitation. See the attached flier for more details! A copy of this will come home for each family this week. Ag Day: If you haven't yet expressed your intention to enter Ag Day by submitting an entry form please let us know as soon as possible, phone Lynaire on 823 6064. There is up-to-date information regarding Ag Day on the school website www.ohaupo.school.nz look under ‘School Events/Ag Day’. Trophies to be returned: All Ag Day and Group Day trophies must be returned to the school office by Friday 11th September, please make sure they are clean and polished before you return them. Or you can borrow some polish from the school office. To date NO TROPHIES have been returned !

Open Morning I invite you to come along to our Open Morning on Wednesday 16th September . We will commence at 9am with a wel-come in the hall, and then all classrooms will be open for you to visit. Please do make sure you sign our visitors list in the hall on arrival. This will be a wonderful opportunity for you to see the actualities of learning as it is at Ōhaupō School. What do you understand by ‘Learner Agency’? Come along and find out what your children are excited about. Do you know how technology is used by our students to facilitate their learning and the changing focus for teachers who are now able to teach in a more flexible way utilising a modern learn-ing environment. I look forward to seeing you at Ōhaupō School on Wednesday 16th.
