I hope all families were able to spend time relaxing and regenerating, sleeping in and spending time together, the weather helped with spending time outdoors. It was wonderful to see everyone on Monday morning bright and happy despite losing an hour of sleep due to daylight saving. This term promises to be one filled with many learning opportunities for St Paul s students and many family school events. I hope the calendar will help families plan for these as we near the very busy Christ- mas time. 2019 if any family (other than year 6 ) is leaving St Pauls please let the office know. We are beginning to plan classes for 2019. Funding for Catholic Schools As you have heard in the media in the last few weeks funding for Catholic schools has been revised and we will now receive funding that is more correctly aligned to factors other than Coburg property prices. Catholic Execu- tive Director, Stephen Elder and his team at Catholic Education Melbourne have tirelessly and relentlessly taken the case for Catholic Education to Politicians. This is a big win for Catholic families and Catholic Education. On St Pauls behalf I would like to thank Stephen Elder and all at Catholic Education Melbourne. Please find two letters attached to this newsletter from Stephen Elder. St Pauls Playgroup WOW! What an awesome turnout at our very first Playgroup yesterday. We had around 8 children, 7 St Paul s families including some extended family members. Everyone was super impressed with the toys and activities we provided. Activities included: free play, snack time and mat time. Angela Gangi, our librarian was there and read and sang some nursery rhymes and everyone got involved. An- gela has run playgroups before – she said this one is awesome. The Hall is a great venue with lots of space and filled with light. The toys purchased were very engaging for the children and the PMP climbing equipment was a bonus - better than Gymbaroo! The team of Donna Coleman and Donna Ervin (who is currently on Long Service Leave) should be very proud of this playgroup. Donna Coleman is very committed and has worked very hard to establish this playgroup. A great first session! Please come along if you have a toddler and spread the word! This is great example of how school communities can work together to connect families not only of school aged children but also from the important 0-5 years.

Dear Parents And Friends Of St Paul’s, Welcome back to term 4. I hope all families were able to spend time relaxing and regenerating, sleeping in and spending time together, the weather helped with spending time outdoors. It was wonderful to see everyone on Monday morning bright and happy despite losing an hour of sleep due to daylight saving. This term promises to be one filled with many learning opportunities for St Paul’s students and many family school events. I hope the calendar will help families plan for these as we near the very busy Christ-mas time.

2019 if any family (other than year 6 ) is leaving St Paul’s please let the office know. We are beginning to plan classes for 2019.

Funding for Catholic Schools As you have heard in the media in the last few weeks funding for Catholic schools has been revised and we will now receive funding that is more correctly aligned to factors other than Coburg property prices. Catholic Execu-tive Director, Stephen Elder and his team at Catholic Education Melbourne have tirelessly and relentlessly taken the case for Catholic Education to Politicians. This is a big win for Catholic families and Catholic Education. On St Paul’s behalf I would like to thank Stephen Elder and all at Catholic Education Melbourne. Please find two letters attached to this newsletter from Stephen Elder.

St Paul’s Playgroup WOW! What an awesome turnout at our very first Playgroup yesterday. We had around 8 children, 7 St Paul’s families including some extended family members. Everyone was super impressed with the toys and activities we provided. Activities included: free play, snack time and mat time. Angela Gangi, our librarian was there and read and sang some nursery rhymes and everyone got involved. An-gela has run playgroups before – she said ‘this one is awesome.’ The Hall is a great venue with lots of space and filled with light. WALK TO SCHOOL 2018

October is “Walk to School” month in Victoria. The Victorian government has set up this initiative to promote the building of healthy habits from an early age.

St. Paul’s will participate in Walk to School for two weeks, from Monday 15th October to Friday 26th October.

During these two weeks we are encouraging everyone to walk, ride or scoot to and from school with their parents. If you can’t walk all the way, you could park the car a street away, and walk the rest of the way. Each class will be keep a tally of how many children walk each day. Children will receive a stick-er each day they walk

Please read the parent fact sheet that has been sent home for further infor-mation.

Welcome This week we welcome a new Prep student Esosa to our school. Esosa and his family have moved to Coburg from Western Australia. I know you will make them feel welcome when you see new faces in the yard.

Young Designer Awards Congratulations to our Young designer winners who were presented with their awards on Monday by Lizzie Blandthorn. Lizzie was very impressed with the creativity of our students. Check out Lizzie’s Facebook pagewhich features St Paul’s. Congratulations to Joe Keane for leading this wonderful inspiring challenge.

Girls’ Summer Uniform I have had many requests from parents asking if we could include shorts or skorts as part of the girls’ Summer uniform, to allow them to be more active during recess and lunch. After consulting with leaders in the school and a parent group, as well as uniform suppliers, we have decided to include skorts as an alternative to the summer dress. This is to be worn with the sky blue polo top. It’s available from size 4—18 for $22 and can be purchased through the Uniform Shop. A sample is available at the office. Have a great week. DAY FOR DANIEL

Wear a touch of RED Friday 26th of October

On Friday 26th of October, Saint Paul’s Primary School will be hold-ing a Day for Daniel. Day for Daniel is a National Day of Action to raise awareness of child safety, protection and harm prevention.

The objectives of Day for Daniel are:

To raise awareness about child safety and protection and to pro-mote a safer community for children. To educate children regarding their personal safety and empower them to Recognise, React and Report.

The theme for the day is ‘Wear red and educate’ so we would en-courage all members of the community to wear a touch of red on Friday the 26th of October in recognition of Day for Daniel. This could be a red ribbon, red socks or a red badge!

For more information on Day for Daniel or the Daniel Morcombe Foundation, please visit: http://www.dayfordaniel.com.au/
