Afterwards he went to Seille. and marched from that place to Mons. Ho remained there until the order was given for a general retreat towards Paris. Death of Mr William Lockey. The inhabitants of Barnaul Ca«tlc ami district will read

w a i t regret the news of the death of Mr William Lockey: late gas manager, at the age of 75 years, which took place en Monday last, at Alnwick, after a long illnese. T)>c deceased ft ink-man ckuuc to Barnard Castle many years ago on his appointment as manager of the local gas-works, and held that position for nearly 30 rears, when he retired, and 1ms since assisted his sons with their work its <*AS managers until about a year ago, when ho was stricken d u w u with illness. The ikc-asod gentleman s a w many great changes in the works here, and many improvements were made under his manage­ment. Though devoted to his work, Mr Lockey found time

participate in sport generally, b u t was, perhaps, more at home with his dog and gun. Be leaves a family of four sons ami one daughter.
