This year we are celebrating the 36th Anniversary of Old West Days and the 49th annual world-famous Boy Scout Elk Antler Auction. The festivities kick off on May 21st and continue through Memorial Day Weekend. Jackson Hole’s uniqueness is created by our rich western heritage, genuine local hospitality, abundant wildlife and incredible natural beauty. The spirit of the true West lives on in Jackson and is celebrated every year during ElkFest and Old West Days as we have the only remaining horse drawn parade in America!
As we move into summertime our visitors enjoy an array of outdoor activities including fishing, white water rafting, horseback riding, mountain biking, hiking, golfing and paragliding. In between activity-filled days, folks are invited to enjoy our charming downtown that features a wonderful assortment of restaurants, shops, and world class art galleries.

ELKFEST SCHEDULE OF EVENTS The National Elk Refuge is part of the National Wildlife Refuge System, a premier system of public lands and waters set aside to conserve America’s fish, wildlife, and plants. Since Theodore Roosevelt designated the first wildlife refuge in 1903, the system has grown to more than 150 million acres and is administered by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Located adjacent to the Grand Teton National Park and the Bridger-Teton National Forest, the National Elk Refuge is guided by the agency’s mission to conserve, protect, and enhance fish, wildlife and plants and their habitats for the continuing benefit of the American people. An Act of Congress on August 10, 1912 appropriated money for the purchase of lands and maintenance of a winter elk refuge, which created the present day National Elk Refuge. While elk are the primary reason for the refuge’s establishment, and the habitat is managed primarily for elk, other highly visible and important species exist on and use the variety of upland, riparian, and wetland habitats. The refuge provides, preserves, restores, and manages habitat for a variety of other wildlife, including bison, trumpeter swans, bald eagles, bighorn sheep, mule deer, pronghorns, moose, coyotes, wolves, and a variety of waterfowl. ElkFest offers a wonderful opportunity to celebrate preservation and habitat management on the National Elk Refuge.
THE NATIONAL ELK REFUGE
Celebrate Wapiti & WildernessElkFest, a weekend of activities built around the 49th annual world famous Jackson Hole Boy Scout Elk Antler Auction, is an exciting time for celebrating nature, outdoor skills, hunting and ecological education and awareness. Every spring, thousands of elk wintering on the National Elk Refuge lose their antlers before they migrate to their summer range. The Boy Scouts assist the Refuge with harvesting the shed antlers and auction them to bidders from around the world who make furniture, wall decorations, jewelry and food products from them. This annual event, which includes a Chili Cook-Off and the kick-off of a Mountain Man Rendezvous, supports the habitat program on the National Elk Refuge with 75% of auction proceeds going back to the Refuge.
