Her son, Nick Dempsey, recently sustained a spinal injury and has a long road of recovery ahead of him. Fundraising tins have been arranged in order to support fundraising efforts. If you would like to make a donation to Nick’s ongoing support and rehabilitation a fundraising tin is located in our office. We certainly wish Nick and his family all the best in their road to recovery. As a school, we are planning to run a fundraiser event for him next term – Disco for Dempsey. More information will be sent home about this next term. School Excursions Thank you to everyone who has paid an instalment for the school excursions in Term 4. If you have not paid the first instalment I urge you to do so before the end of the school term, otherwise a position may not be available for your child. Students in Years 3 and 4 will travel to the Great Aussie Holiday Park this year; our 5’s and 6’s will travel to Borambola this year. A reminder that you are always able to make smaller, more regular payments if you wish. Grand Friends Day Thank you to the many, many grandparents and grand friends who helped us celebrate the wonderful opportunities available to our students at AWPS. Students and I especially loved some of the interview questions and their answers. It was also lovely to see some of our friends from Lutheran Aged Care visiting classrooms. A special mention to Marcia Lindsay and Sue Cross who assisted in the organisation of the morning tea. Thank you to the many families who supplied delicious treats for the morning tea – they were a real hit. Athletics Carnival Blessed with perfect weather and great facilities, all students participated in their respective Athletics Carnivals yesterday. Our students really enjoy this day and enjoy focusing on personal performance and achievement and celebrating the success and abilities of others. Thank you to all staff, parents and students for making the day so enjoyable. Diary Dates 511 Mott Street, Albury NSW 2640 Ph 0260 212 288 Fax 0260 413 783 Principal – Sharon Julien P.O. Attendance Our weekly attendance competition continues. Last week’s attendance percentages were as follows: K/1B 78% K/1RB 83% 1/2M 95% 2/3C 90% 4/5K 81% 5/6B 76% Well done to 1/2M. That is 2 weeks in a row now – let’s all keep up the great work. Let’s see who will win the opportunity to have Mr Ellison display his Magic Tricks – all you have to do is be at school during the school week. Please remember It’s Cool to be in School! The Celebrate Attendance program will conclude next week. Thank you to students and families who support this wonderful program by making sure children are here each and every day.

I would like to remind you, that although the Celebrate Attendance program has concluded for this year, it is still important to be at school. We will run surprise Spot Attendance Weeks throughout the year. The Big Write Off Thank you to families who have sat down with their child and talked about the writing stimulus provided in the last newsletter. Students recently demonstrated their imaginative flair when writing about something that they had found. Students who wrote the most number of words this time included: Year 6 – Aldrin Rivera Year 5 – Carlos Lovatt Year 4 – Tamanah Mobourne Year 3 – Allen Rivera Year 2 – Brock Loney Year 1 – Imogen Hillier The best narratives were written by: Year 1 – Kami Mobourne Year 2 – Tyronne Murray and Kirah Whitling Year 3 – Gemma Quinn Year 4 – Campbell Deas Year 5 – Allesia Mitchell and Harrison Miller Year 6 – Damon Sinclair Our next writing topic will be a persuasive piece of writing, which will be carried out next term. Students will be asked to write about what is more important “Family or Friends”. Masters of Mathematics Mentals Congratulations to K/1B on winning last week’s Masters of Maths Mentals. 80% of students got all of the questions correct last Friday. Well done K/1B – let’s see who will win tomorrow. Newsletter is Nit Night Please be aware that Head Lice is always with us. Anyone can get head lice and it is common for school children to get head lice at some time. Head lice can spread when children’s hair comes into contact with one another.

Page 3: Thank you to the many, many grandparents and...Easter Hat Parade Our Easter Hat Parade will be held on Thursday 6th April at 10.00am. Teachers have sent a note home with more detailed

To prevent getting head lice, tie your child’s hair back, tell your child not to share hats or clothes and check your child’s hair regularly. We all need to be vigilant, check our child’s hair frequently and treat accordingly. Having a child with head lice can be frustrating, time consuming and expensive so this year we are running a ‘Newsletter is Nit Night’ campaign. If everyone takes the time to check hair every second Thursday, we may just get rid of these little creatures. SRC Fun Day On Wednesday 5th of April the SRC will be holding a Fun Day. Several simple stalls, such as knock down skittles, golf etc, will be run during the afternoon session. Students will be asked to pay a $2.00 gold coin. For their $2.00 students will get 20 tickets that will allow them to have a go at activities and they will be able to come dressed in casual clothes. The $2.00 gold coin will be collected in the morning and tickets will be given to class teachers for each student. We will then run the stalls from 1.25pm to 2.40pm under the COLA. Money raised will be put towards purchasing equipment for the school. We hope everyone has a great day. Easter Hat Parade Our Easter Hat Parade will be held on Thursday 6th April at 10.00am. Teachers have sent a note home with more detailed information regarding the making of Easter Hats at school and the necessary items needed. Students at neighbouring pre-schools have also been invited and everyone is looking forward to this event. This year we will be joined by our friends from Lutheran Aged Care – we hope they enjoy the many colourful hats. End of term and Anzac Day I take this opportunity to inform you that the school term will end on Friday 7th April. Next term school returns for students on Wednesday 26th April. Staff will be attending professional learning focussed on First Aid on the Monday. Term 2 will be filled with many activities, including the school cross country carnival, NAPLAN testing for Years 3 and 5 and NAIDOC day celebrations.

Tuesday 25th April is the ANZAC Day march down Dean Street. We would love to have as many students as possible marching proudly behind our banner dressed in their winter uniform. Further information will be sent out next week. Students are asked to meet at 8:30am outside BJ’s Trophies. The march off starts at 9:00am. Staff will be there to escort students down the street. Our school captains will attend a wreath laying ceremony at the monument at 10:00am. Have a happy and safe holiday everyone. Sharon Julien Principal
