Chicago captures first ever "Developing Chapter A ward. "
The Chicago Chapter was the recipient of the Developing Chapter Award at the 11th Annual BDPANational Con-ference. This isthe first time thatthis award cate
gory has beenpresented. It isquite an honorfor our chapter tobe its' first reci
pient.
A "DevelopingChapter" is onewhich lras beenin existence for
five (5) years orless. The award
category was created to recognizethe chapter which best exemplifies through its programs and development the support of the overallgoals of the national organization. These goalsinclude community involvement, effective professional development, activities, establishing relationswith other community-based organizations, andmarketing the activities of BDP A to the industry asa whole and the minority community in particular.Each chapter had to submit documentation to supportits involvement. The Chicago Chapter submitted over100 pages to document its commitment to these goals.
The growth of BDP A, since 1986, has contributedsignificantly to the creation of this award category.
Nearly two-thirdsC13) of BDPA'smember chaptershave joined sincethat time.
As members of
the ChicagoChapter, we canand should take
pride in this accomplishment.This awardshould not make
us satisfied, however, as thereis always .... fOomfor improvement.After all, we
have a long way to go before we become the kind ofjuggernaut that perennially commands the type ofrecognition that the Detroit Chapter or the ClevelandChapter receives at the National Conference.
With the proper level of commitment from theChicago Chapter Membership, we can become a"developing juggernaut." The fact that we won thisaward says that, Chicago, you're on the right track!
Congratulations Chicago Chapter, keep up the goodwork. The best is yet to come.
