THE SILENT GENERATIONIn recent years, it has become popular with social scientists to

name every generation. We have all heard of the “greatest genera-tion” and the “baby boomers.” The men in our group are sand-wiched between those two well known generations, but we have aname too. We are called the “silent generation.” Not because wehaven’t accomplished great things, but due to the manner in whichwe did our work, with quiet dedication and little attention to our-selves.

Raised by fathers and grandfathers who lived through the de-pression and fought in World War II, we were brought up with themandates to love our God, love our family, love our country, respectauthority, get a good education, and be loyal to our employers andfriends, while not complaining about any of the above. Our genera-tion is made up of doctors, lawyers, engineers, and businessmen. And, it has been said that 75% of today’s existing knowledge wasdiscovered in our lifetime. Faith-based travelOur planned excursion entitled "Israel, A Journey to Holy Land" will be Sep-tember 9-18, 2008. An education study class, led by Johnny White, will pre-cede the tour. The preparation classes will cover the events and/or scrip-tures included in the tour itineraries. Pastor Johnny White and his wifePatricia will lead the tour.

This immensely popular journey to the Holy Land will afford travelersthe opportunity to walk in the footsteps of Jesus as we visit such ancient

sites as Bethlehem, Nazareth and the Sea of Galilee. We will spend four nights in Jerusalem explor-ing the holy city and we will visit the ruins of Jericho, the oldest city in the world. Our journey will in-clude locations that have existed for thirty centuries.

A complete day-by-day itinerary and registration form are available in the church office.Travel Ezee will be handling the reservations and travel arrangements. The deadline for registra-tions is March 10 in order to make airline reservations. For further details, call Bill and Jan Kirkmanat 325-388-2444.

(Minister’s MessageContinued from page 1)

As we moved throughour careers and family-raisingperiods of our lives, our friendswere largely determined by ourprofession, our wives and theactivities associated with them, and our children. This circle offriends was good, but not al-ways comfortable.

Then, if you are lucky, aftercareer and family-raising time iscompleted, comes another cir-cle of friends, and would youbelieve it? They look much thesame as the group of friendswhen a young man; non-critical,funny, serious, sometimes ir-reverent and irresponsible, butalways supportive, but with twomore important ingredients. We have become introspectiveand interesting, forged by thehand of life’s experiences. Weare not identified by titles of thepast, only by who we are today. We can talk about anything, everything, or nothing at all.We are comfortable to bearound.

This article is part of a continuingseries on the organizations that are sup-ported by The Church at Horseshoe Bay

through the Benevolence Committee.

This month’s report is on CampPeniel, one of the many benefactors that receive support fromyour benevolence contributions. Camp Peniel is a place whereGod is known and lives are changed. Be prepared for an ad-venture on 310 acres of the beautiful Hill Country. The camp isa nondenominational ministry founded for the sole purpose ofreaching today’s youth for Jesus Christ. They believe thatevery week of camp should be a life-changing experience be-cause of the extreme fun experienced and the rock solid Bibletraining received. Their mission is to challenge every camperto strengthen their personal relationship with Christ while ex-periencing an adventure with a purpose!

Last year when the flood came, they lost the lake dam, canoes, and some camp structures. A call went out and indi-viduals along with organizations responded with $203K for re-pairs. However, a drop in donations combined with increasedexpenses has left the camp with a short fall of $170K. Thecamp does a wonderful job of ministering to children and yoursupport would be greatly appreciated. Go to their website,www.camppeniel.org for more information.

Begins EARLY thisyear!!! Don’t forget to

Helping CenterNeeds

The Helping Center has ex-pressed a need for the follow-ing non-perishable food dona-tions: canned fruit, 2lb. bags ofpinto beans, 1lb. packages ofspaghetti, and powdered milk.Donations of any non-

perishable foods are always welcome.Bring your donations to the church office, or

you may deliver them to The Helping Center at1315 Broadway in Marble Falls.

Church NurseryDid you know that we have a nursery

available every Sunday during worship ser-vices? For those who wish to bring little onesto our church nursery, the nursery is staffedevery Sunday for both services (from 8:30 until12 Noon). Our attendant, Marilyn Salinas, teaches kindergarten at Colt Elementary duringthe week and comes to care for our children onSunday mornings. We will have two attendantspresent for the three services Easter morning.

For children coming into the sanctuary,we have activity kits available in the narthex.

Letter of AppreciationFrom the staff of ECI PRIDE we wish to extend our heartfelt thanks to the church family of The

Church At Horseshoe Bay. We received your generous donation to our program of $800.00. We know youreceive many requests from deserving causes. We are honored that you chose to give to our program. Wehope we use your gifts wisely and in a manner you would be pleased with and that will benefit our families.

We continue to be very busy. We are providing developmental screenings to all children under agethree with an open case involved with the Children's Protective Service Program. We find many of these chil-dren to be eligible for our special education services. They are either emotionally in need of care, develop-mentally delayed or suffering from nutritional problems or drug exposure. We are also seeing a dramatic in-crease in the number of children with autism. We are providing all children we see for developmental screen-ing with a book. We are hoping to promote early literacy in the home. Being able to give this book is a resultof your donation. .

We have also purchased books on autism and oral motor exercises used in children with articulationdisorders. These books have been loaned to our families and have been of great benefit. We hope to purchasemore books and at least two "bumpo seats" to be used in positioning our little ones giving them the ability tosit upright and play with toys. We will also set aside some money for emergencies such as gas money for doc-tor appointments in Austin. .

Again, we thank you . God bless each of you. We are so grateful for your help. .Cathy Lemlyn ; Family Service Coordinator/Office Manager PRIDE/Burnet County
