Parable of the Three Candles

Three children carried their candles home from church. Each thought of it preciously in relationship to the commitment made in the beautiful Candle Light Service.

One had not even lit the candle in order to keep it good as new. The other had let the candle burn during the service and carried it forth still lit from the church, but it blew out at the doorway. The third blew out his candle and took it home and lit it a number of times during the year until it was burned down into the dish.

"Look," said Mary. "After ten months have passed, I still have my candle as good as new. I was smarter than the others. John's is all burned up, and Eddie's just lies in the drawer half used up. Who's the smartest, Mother?"

"I don't know," replied the mother. "Candles are made to be used. They give forth their light for whatever the user decides. Who can say what John was thinking as he did his work with the lighted candle, and who knows how Eddie feels when he opens his drawer and sees the candle.”

“We are meant to use our lives being helpful to others. Whether you light a candle or don't use candles, there is a spiritual light that should be in you and which should shine out to make others happy. It is not how big your candle is, but how you use the light that it gives."

Read St. Matthew 5:16: "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven."

Students will preview the Book Fair on Wednesday, February 19 and make their wish lists for you when you come to conferences on Thursday, February 20. The Book Fair is also open to the parish community on Thursday from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm.

We are happy to announce that Fareway grocery store has raised their SCRIP earning amount from 3% to 5%. Remember, SCRIP is available to all families as a quick and easy way to reduce tuition costs.

The goal for this year’s Catholic United Financial School Raffle is $15,000, and so far $ 5,976 has been raised. This year’s top

prize is a new 2020 Buick Encore or $20,000 cash. Tickets are $5.00 each. Look for students selling tickets after Mass or stop by the school office! Physician Assisted Suicide Myth: Look, I’m dying anyway. Why not end the process before it gets even harder? Truth: God has a purpose for your life. His son, Jesus Christ, died for you, to open to you a path to the Father. You have been given a mission. God has rich possibilities for your life, even on your deathbed, that you do not know—but He does. Do not shut out the Lord’s possibilities for your life. He will grace you in the difficulties, and we will not abandon you. Dying is difficult, but it is also sacred ground. If you intention-ally and with full knowledge end your life, you shut God out. Catholic Compassion: Dying can be hard, but we can help. For centuries, the Christian faith has helped people die well. Re-quest the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick early in the pro-cess for the grace of peace. Pray and request prayer. Forgive friends and family. Ask for help. We have millions of witness-es of people who have died well and with peace. We can’t promise it won’t be hard, but we can promise that you will not be alone and God is with you.
