Page 1 THE COG - RCM Meeting 1591 Bulletin 27 July 2016 20 Members were in attendance at Meeting # 1590 held on 20 July 2016. Apologies were received from 9 Members. It was of some concern that the Meeting was advised that Tony Gardner had been admitted to hospital on that day. On behalf of the Club Members, I wish Tony a speedy recovery. A special welcome was given to Dennis Heanes on his return from a recent overseas holiday. Graeme Packer provided further updated information on our Club’s commitment to the opening of the Campbelltown Aquatic and Recreation Centre on Sunday 24 July 2016. Ken Vear was the lucky raffle ticket winner but his draw of the marble was held over until the next meeting. The guest speaker for the meeting was Josh Hallett, a volunteer Coordinator of a new charity called “End Homelessness SA”. Josh provided a very enlightening presentation of the plight of homeless people in South Australia – estimated to be around 6,000 in the 2006 Census. Last Thursday I attended the first G7 meeting for 2016/2017 when all new Presidents in Group 7 met and discussed matters relating to Rotary in general and also our individual Clubs. Some issues coming from that meeting will be discussed at the next Board meeting on 2 August 2016. BREAKING NEWS : Advice had just been received from the office of Federal MP, Mr Christopher Pyne, that the Club’s application for an $8,000 grant for the Community Workshop has been approved. More details will be provided in due course. A big thank you on behalf of the Club is extended to Bob Pomeroy, Graeme Packer and Kevin Jacka for their input into this grant application. The Club’s next meeting is on Wednesday 27 July 2016. The guest speaker is Mr Tom Tseregounes a Pharmacist who will be speaking on Cold and Flu prevention. See you all there. Return of D Rigall after 9 weeks caravanning A new role for the Vet Cashier

Report: ARC Campbelltown Opening BBQ 24th July 2016 It certainly did not look like it was going to rain early on, but as usual once we started setting up guess what?

Well what a great Fellowship time and a great BBQ Day even if it did rain, did it rain at times and it was windy etc. The guys cooking, talking, great fun certainly had a little cosy (well heated, with BBQ smells during the day) undercover area while cooking with a lot of funny comments/stories which of course “stays on the road” etc, but some of these will get out? There was also some eating as well, I should have bought some bacon & eggs to compliment the sausages etc. I should not forget our partners, our lady members, and friends who did a magnificent job in looking after the serving and making sure everything went smoothly. I also understand it was also a great fellowship for the ladies to be able to get together and able to rotate the help during the day.

I understand our photographer and historian (on the day) has taken a few photos even a great group photo. (I’m sure it will be in this publication) A big thank you should go to everyone who attended, those who came early, and those who helped pack up, possibly at times we had too many in some areas, (this allowed to rotate, and some members had to go early or had other commitments)) but I think everyone had an opportunity to have a look at the Centre certainly impressive, some members I believe became members? Certainly appreciated the help by everyone in getting everything packed & loaded on both trailers and getting all our equipment back to the shed after the event, thanks Kym D for the transportation during the day. This event was similar to MLM

35kg Sausages used 28kg (392)

Steaks 6kg used 5kg (approx. 70)

Onions 12kg used 11kg (a bit leftover after finishing)

Veggie Burgers 72 used 55. Total Takings $1605.00 less purchases/left over Stock = Total Profit $1305.29 But a BIG Thanks to everyone again for efforts in making this a successful event. Hopefully those who were on the sick list get well soon.

SOME PEARLS OF WISDOM FROM OUR MEMBERS

I’ve never actually thought of lil’ ol’ Australia in this way. No wonder our fuel bills are so high.

This gives you a good idea of how big this patch of red dirt we live on actually is…. Wide open spaces

indeed!

Past Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar

Launches New Adelaide Theatre Company

In 1993, Mitcham Rotary Club and District 9520 sponsored a young Adelaide theatre director with an Ambassadorial Scholarship to

study towards a Master of Arts in Theatre Studies at the University of London.

23 years later past Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar, Michael Eustice, is launching a new theatre company with a production of William

Shakespeare's Titus Andronicus which has previously never been publicly performed in South Australia.

Red Phoenix Theatre's Artistic Director, Michael Eustice, says, "It was the Rotary Foundation's generosity and support which enabled me

to study and experience Shakespeare and the theatre within an international context. The scholarship has influenced and shaped my life

experiences and career in remarkable ways."

Red Phoenix was recently welcomed as Holden Street Theatres' new resident theatre company.
