Feudalism =

Changes During The Tokugawa Shogunate

1. How  did  the  role  of  the  Samurai  change  under  the  Tokugawa  Shogunate?  Why  did  it  change?

2. How  did  the  role  of  the  merchants  change  under  the  Tokugawa  Shogunate?  Why  did  it  change?

3. How  was  interaction  between  classes  different  before  and  after  Tokugawa  rule?

4. Look  at  the  paragraph  titled  “Central  Government  Imposed”  on  page  392-‐393  in  the  textbook.  Then  look  at  the  definition  of  feudalism  you  wrote  earlier.  Was  the  Tokugawa  Shogunate  really  a  feudal  government?  Explain.
