From the Pastor …..

In last week’s article, I discussed how we are beginning the process of a capital campaign for our building needs. Part of that process has been a large amount of prayer and collaboration from many different persons. As we kick off this part of the process, I wanted to invite the congregation to delve into the scripture as part of our process. We will study four scriptural themes as we consider where God is calling us to be. Bro. Pat will lead the first Bible study on August 14th. Beginning August 21, I will lead a four-week series that I’d love for you to attend.

The four weeks of the study will cover four themes:

Memory (examining the forgetfulness of God’s people in the book of Judges)

Reality (the challenges of growth through the lens of the church of Acts)

Expectancy (the excitement and anxiety of the resurrection experience)

Responsibility (the Great Commission for the modern church)

Even if you can’t be at the Wednesday study, you’ll hear these words all fall as we begin this capital campaign. It em-phasizes the important characteristics of our faith journey and this process.

If you aren’t able to attend this study beginning August 21 (because of schedule or volunteering in other areas of ministry), you can catch it on our podcast, Facebook page, or Roku app. That should give everyone a chance to en-gage.

I am very excited and tired just thinking about this fall, but I am confident that the Spirit will lead us into productive places. Join us and let’s journey there together.

Prayer Focus—Revival

Pray for a Passion for Missions – Righteous God, empower Your people with a burning passion for local and global missions. Grant to us a fiery zeal for planting new churches. Please forgive us for our frequent lack of concern beyond “me and mine.” (Matthew 18:12, 24:14, 28:19; Luke 19:10; Acts 1:8).

Christmas Shoeboxes Update!

We need a few more items to make our shoeboxes com-plete. You have been so generous to purchase so many things!!! I have been counting items as they have been put in the containers. There are several things that we do need: toothbrushes and toothpaste, pencils, colors, and pencil sharpeners. Also needed are small toys for the kids, flip flops, and packages of underwear for boys and girls. Hair accessories for the girls would be a perfect addition for the boxes. As you make out your shopping list, please add a few of our "needed" items!!! If you would like to donate money, just put shoeboxes in the memo line of your check. Thank you! We love because He first loved us!!! Bobbi

Psalm 21 Ministry Come hear about a ministry that aids hospice patients by bringing comfort to them in DeSota and Tate counties! It is called: Psalm 121 Ministries and will be held August 19 in our Fellowship Hall at 6:30. Potluck Supper. The founder, Ruth Munday, will be speaking to us. It is informative as well as inspiring ! It is a meeting of our UMW but men are welcome as well! It is an easy ministry that we can possibly undertake at our church so come hear all about it!

Chrismons

We hope you enjoyed the two Chrismon trees that adorned our sanctuary Christmas 2018. Both trees, star toppers and numerous ornaments were donated. Many ornaments were donated in honor or memory of church members. We are still in need of ornaments to fill our trees. Monetary donations can be made directly to the Chrismon fund. October will be Ornament Month, when we will meet to hand make ornaments. We also hope to provide you with the history of the Chrismons, explanation of the ornaments and donations this Christmas season. Thank you, Gay Bell and the Chrismon committee
