Why a Group Coding Officer Role?

• Need has been formulated by:

• Maintenance Management Project

• Naming service

• Layout service

The GCO responsibilities

• Act as an interface between the equipment responsible persons and the naming service for naming matters;

• Promote the usage of naming conventions within his/her area of responsibility;

• Organise codification within his/her area of responsibility in coordination with the naming service;

• Propose new codes to the naming service or assist colleagues in proposing new codes that ensure a coherent codification within the equipment group and that are in line with the CERN rules;

• Assist the naming service in the application of existing naming conventions;

• Document implementation conventions for his/her area of responsibility;

• Identify incorrect or erroneous usage of codes;

• Identify training needs in respect of coding matters within his/her group;

• Propose coding process improvements where applicable.
