This month I wanted to check outa new spot in an old spot inDowntown Naperville, The

Wise Boxer Pour House. Located inthe heart of Downtown at 16 W.Jefferson, this 3-story restaurant haslots to offer. For years the site ofLeonardo’s Pizza, local restaurateurJim Bergeron, built this building a fewyears ago and is bringing a new twistin an upscale pub and eatery to town!

The first floor definitely has apub/sports bar feel to it, with ampleTV’s and even TV’s in the booths – oryou can dine on the second or thirdfloor each with their owncharacteristics. My family was in townrecently, and we decided to hit theBoxer for lunch on a Saturday to catchsome college football. After a roundof very good Bloody Mary’s we

ordered a few apps, my favorite beingthe Port Flatbread – perfectly crispyand light and topped with portabellamushrooms, bleu cheese andcaramelized onions. My sistersenjoyed the hummus and eggplant, while my brother loved the trufflefries. We polished those off andordered some of their craft beers –Revolution Anti-Hero IPA, Bell’s BestBrown, and Solemn Oath’sSnaggletooth were all excellent. Theyhave a very nice selection of greatcrafts on tap in addition to your moretraditional offerings – and a veryextensive list of bottled beers.

The menu is quite extensive andperfect for sharing – the Wise Man’sCBLT (bacon, lettuce, tomato, 3 kindsof cheese on Texas Toast) I orderedwas HUGE, and delicious. All of the

sandwiches we had – an awesomeJuicy Lucy burger, Sunset Chickenand the Pulled Pork were all verytasty and large portions – we couldn’teven finish them and that was notfrom lack of effort! My mother hadtheir Chicken Caesar salad and barelyput a dent in it – I think she got 3meals out of it - understandablebecause at 84 she eats like a bird! Ilike the menu because it is a biteclectic so you can find something forevery palate, from Drunken Swordfishand Tuna Poke, to Chicken Kabobsand a New York Strip steak – theoptions are plentiful as are theportions – I can see why they areclassified as a Gastro Pub on Yelp! We will definitely be back to try therest of the menu and find newfavorites. There are daily drinkspecials and the wine list has a fewnice surprises on it – but the beerselection is pretty intense – so give it atry and call a cab!

This is a great place for gatherings –on weekends they have live musicand DJ’s – the second floor is perfectfor birthday’s, reunions, businessmeetings or even weddings – with acomplete bar and ample tables, aperfect place to host your nextgathering.

I RESCUEDMY BESTFRIEND!

Pet TalesBy the Naperville Area Humane Society

Hi, my name is Marty!I am a two year old terrier mix looking for my forever home. I camehere from another shelter so my life up until this point is a mystery. Iwould love to find a home where I can play and run! I am busy, curious, and I train well with treats. I like to play with other dogs, butwould prefer to be the only dog in the home. I am not so sure aboutthose kitties either. I have been waiting here longer than all the otherdogs. Please come meet me today!

Consider Opening Your HEART and HOME to anAnimal in Need!

Many people have seen the commercials on TV with video of abused animals and heart-wrenching songs. Many people also believe that when they donate to thoseorganizations, their local humane society receives a portion of those donation dollars.

Unfortunately, that isn’t the case. Everyday is a constant struggle to make ends meet andorganizations such as the Naperville Area Humane Society receive no government funds. We relyentirely on the generosity of the community to keep the doors open. Throughout the year, NAHStries to raise money with various fundraisers. Please join us at the following fun events!

11/6/2013 - Celebrity Bartending at Aurelio'sAurelio's in Springbrook Square is hosting Celebrity Bartending for NAHS! Join us there from 6:00to 9:00 p.m. to see some local celebrities serving up beverages to support homeless pets.

12/7/2013 - Holiday Bazaar and Open HouseJoin NAHS at the 3rd Annual Holiday Bazaar and Open House! Items for sale include jewelry, wreaths, scarves and other hand-crafted items both holiday and non-holiday themed. This eventwill take place at the shelter located at 1620 West Diehl Road in Naperville. We'll be open from11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 7 and 12:00 - 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 8! Theproceeds from the weekend will be used to care for the dogs and cats who must call the shelterhome.

We are still accepting crafts and other items for sale! If you would like to donate items, please letNAHS know you'd like to participate. All donations must be delivered to the shelter no later thanWednesday, November 27, 2013. For more information, please call 630-420-8989.
