Greetings to all in the Name of the Risen Lord!May our worship this glorious morning celebrate the joy and hope, peace and presence, of our Lord Jesus Christ, raised to life for us. We welcome all, especially our guests. If you do not have a church home please consider Divine Shepherd. We would love to have you as part of our family. Please take a minute and sign our guest book.

A prayer before WorshipThis is the day you have made, O Lord Jesus, a day of new life and eternal celebration! The stone is moved; death is defeated; heaven is open. As Your disciples first saw and believed Your victory over the tomb, so give us joy in the promise You made and keep for us: because You live, we live also! Amen.

The Lord’s SupperThe Lord’s Supper is celebrated by us this morning in the confession and gladness that, as our Lord says, He gives into our mouth not only bread and wine but His very body and blood to eat and drink for the forgiveness of sins and to strengthen our union with Him and with one another. Our Lord Jesus invites to His table those who trust His Words, repent of all sin, and set aside any refusal to forgive and love as He forgives and loves us, that they may show forth His death until He comes.

Whoever, therefore, eats the bread or drinks the blood of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty concerning the body and blood of the Lord. (1 Cor 11:28 ESV) Holy Communion is a confession of the faith which is confessed at this altar.  Any who are not yet instructed, in doubt, or hold a confession differing from that of the Holy Scriptures, this congregation, and the Lutheran Church~Missouri Synod, and yet desire to receive the sacrament, are asked to speak with Pastor Sturzenbecher.

Confession & AbsolutionP In the name of the Father and of the + Son and of the Holy

Spirit.C Amen.P Our help is in the name of the Lord,C who made heaven and earth.P If You, O Lord, kept a record of sins, O Lord, who could stand?C But with You there is forgiveness; therefore You are

feared.P Since we are gathered to hear God’s Word, call upon Him in

prayer and praise, and receive the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ in the fellowship of this altar, let us first consider our unworthiness and confess before God and one another that we have sinned in thought, word, and deed, and that we cannot free ourselves from our sinful

condition. Together as His people let us take refuge in the infinite mercy of God, our heavenly Father, seeking His grace for the sake of Christ, and saying: God, be merciful to me, a sinner.

C Almighty God, have mercy upon us, forgive us our sins, and lead us to everlasting life. Amen.

P Almighty God in His mercy has given His Son to die for you and for His sake forgives you all your sins. As a called and ordained servant of Christ, and by His authority, I therefore forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the T Son and of the Holy Spirit.

C Amen.

Old Testament Reading Isaiah 611The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me, because the LORD has anointed me to bring good news to the poor; he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound; 2to proclaim the year of the LORD’s favor, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all who mourn; 3to grant to those who mourn in Zion— to give them a beautiful headdress instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, the garment of praise instead of a faint spirit; that they may be called oaks of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he may be glorified. 4They shall build up the ancient ruins; they shall raise up the former devastations; they shall repair the ruined cities, the devastations of many generations. 5Strangers shall stand and tend your flocks; foreigners shall be your plowmen and vinedressers; 6but you shall be called the priests of the LORD; they shall speak of you as the ministers of our God; you shall eat the wealth of the nations, and in their glory you shall boast. 7Instead of your shame there shall be a double portion; instead of dishonor they shall rejoice in their lot;therefore in their land they shall possess a double portion; they shall have everlasting joy. 8For I the LORD love justice; I hate robbery and wrong; I will faithfully give them their recompense, and I will make an everlasting covenant with them. 9Their offspring shall be known among the nations, and their descendants in the midst of the peoples;all who see them shall acknowledge them, that they are an offspring the LORD has blessed. 10I will greatly rejoice in the LORD; my soul shall exult in my God, for he has clothed me with the garments of salvation; he has covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decks himself like a

priest with a beautiful headdress, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels. 11For as the earth brings forth its sprouts, and as a garden causes what is sown in it to sprout up, so the Lord GOD will cause righteousness and praise to sprout up before all the nations.

Catechetical ReviewThe Ten CommandmentsThe Third CommandmentRemember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. What does this mean?We should fear and love God so that we do not despise preaching and His Word, but hold it sacred and gladly hear and learn it.

Epistle Ephesians 3:13–2113So I ask you not to lose heart over what I am suffering for

you, which is your glory.14For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, 15from

whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, 16that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, 17so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, 19and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.

Holy Gospel Luke 7:11–17P The Holy Gospel according to St. Luke, the seventh chapter.C Glory to You, O Lord.

11Soon afterward [Jesus] went to a town called Nain, and his disciples and a great crowd went with him. 12As he drew near to

the gate of the town, behold, a man who had died was being carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow, and a considerable crowd from the town was with her. 13And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her and said to her, “Do not weep.” 14Then he came up and touched the bier, and the bearers stood still. And he said, “Young man, I say to you, arise.” 15And the dead man sat up and began to speak, and Jesus gave him to his mother. 16Fear seized them all, and they glorified God, saying, “A great prophet has arisen among us!” and “God has visited his people!” 17And this report about him spread through the whole of Judea and all the surrounding country. P This is the Gospel of the Lord.C Praise to You, O Christ.

Apostles’ CreedC I believe in God, the Father Almighty,

maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord,     who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,     born of the virgin Mary,     suffered under Pontius Pilate,     was crucified, died and was buried.     He descended into hell.     The third day He rose again from the dead.

P Lift up your hearts.C We lift them to the Lord.P Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.C It is right to give Him thanks and praise.P It is truly good, right, and salutary that we should at all times

and in all places give thanks to You, O Lord, holy Father, almighty and everlasting God, for the countless blessings You so freely bestow on us and all creation. Above all, we give thanks for Your boundless love shown to us when You sent Your only-begotten Son, Jesus Christ, into our flesh and laid on Him our sin, giving Him into death that we might not die eternally. Because He is now risen from the dead and lives and reigns to all eternity, all who believe in Him will overcome sin and death and will rise again to new life. Therefore, with angels and archangels and with all the company of heaven we laud and magnify Your glorious name, evermore praising You and saying:

750 If Thou But Trust in God to Guide Thee

5 Nor think amid the fiery trial    That God hath cast thee off unheard,That he whose hopes meet no denial    Must surely be of God preferred.Time passes and much change doth bringAnd sets a bound to ev’rything.

6 All are alike before the Highest;    ’Tis easy for our God, we know,To raise thee up, though low thou liest,

15

To make the rich man poor and low.True wonders still by Him are wroughtWho setteth up and brings to naught.

7 Sing, pray, and keep His ways unswerving,    Perform thy duties faithfully,And trust His Word; though undeserving,    Thou yet shalt find it true for thee.God never yet forsook in needThe soul that trusted Him indeed.

Page 17: The Nineteenth Sunday after Pentecost · Web view2 days ago  · 20Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within

5 Give us this day our daily bread,And let us all be clothed and fed.    Save us from hardship, war, and strife;    In plague and famine, spare our life,That we in honest peace may live,To care and greed no entrance give.

6 Forgive our sins, Lord, we implore,That they may trouble us no more;    We, too, will gladly those forgive    Who hurt us by the way they live.Help us in our communityTo serve each other willingly.

7 Lead not into temptation, Lord,Where our grim foe and all his horde    Would vex our souls on ev’ry hand.    Help us resist, help us to standFirm in the faith, a mighty host,Through comfort of the Holy Ghost.

8 From evil, Lord, deliver us;The times and days are perilous.    Redeem us from eternal death,    And, when we yield our dying breath,Console us, grant us calm release,And take our souls to You in peace.

9 Amen, that is, so shall it be.Make strong our faith in You, that we
