As I return from another great Hereford event at the National

Western Hereford Show in Denver, my mind focuses on the upcoming events to take place at another great stock show we host in Fort Worth and all the related events. What makes one show or event more special than another? The people who exhibit and attend make the events successful. Denver has its special attractions.

The Mile High city, the carload and pen bull and heifer shows, the sale and certainly the number of entries. Texans played prominent roles in all aspects of the shows and sales as reflected in the reports elsewhere in this magazine. One had to be there to appreciate the awesome quality of the cattle presented to the viewing public this year. I congratulate the AHA staff and sale manager Eddie

Sims of National Cattle Services for conducting the Mile High Hereford Sale to be one of the most successful sales I have ever attended. The move of the sale to the stadium arena was even more awesome this year than last. Hereford breeders can be proud of the breed as represented by the exhibitors and have confidence that Herefords indeed have a bright future in the beef industry.

As manager of THA and a native Texan from the Fort Worth area, I cannot help but envision our Fort Worth Stock Show becoming the “Must Attend” event of the year. The facilities are second to none. In addition to our annual membership meeting and social, we have our 45th annual replacement female sale with some of the best heifers ever consigned, our Heritage pen of heifers donated by a group of extremely dedicated and loyal Hereford breeders, a Cowtown Select Sale featuring some class and division winners from Denver and Reno and a quality open show that has the largest number of entries ever for Fort Worth. What more do we need for Fort Worth to be the greatest Hereford Event of the year?

THA really gets the year started in Fort Worth with the membership meeting, election of officers, sales and shows. The new executive committee will appoint committees and plan for events for the rest of this year and into the next few years. I solicit all members who have thoughts, ideas, and projects or just want to volunteer their time and service to step forward and let the president or myself know. I challenge every member to try to recruit one new member. Surely you have a neighbor, customer or friend who could become a member. We need more active members participating in all of our events.

Meanwhile, Let Us All Work Together to Make THA and HEREFORDS THE BEEF BREED SUPREME! ★

Spring Sale. We feed the bulls during the winter, freeing your pasture, time, and money.

Central Location. With the geographical center of Texas only 13 miles away, we’re close to everyone.

Guarantee. We absolutely guarantee our cattle. If you are not completely satisfied, we will make it right!

Strategic Planning. We aren’t afraid to spend big bucks when we spot an industry changer. Our bold move several years ago to purchase IMR Patriot 3113 3ET has allowed us to move our cowherd to the forefront of the industry. His daughters are truly impressive with beautiful udders, feminine profiles, and the ability to wean heavy calves under severe drought conditions. 3113’s EPD numbers continue to climb when other bulls’ numbers often decline as daughters enter production. We’ve shared a few of his females in previous sales and they are always crowd favorites.

L3 KING COMFORT 229

Reach Real Comfort!

Real Carcass Comfort • A rare, tight-bred (traces 12 times to marbling icon King Ten) rising star that boasts of ALL four bulls in his three generation pedigree that are poven CHB sires. Also, his REA ranks him in the top 1% of the entire breed.

Real Maternal Comfort • You fi nd numerous cows behind “229” that have served faithfully and well. Selected harshly for udder quality and milk fl ow, many of these great females produced consistently for ten years or longer.

Real Performance Comfort • One of the most naturally thick, deep young guns in the industry today – his actual 70# birthweight allows for use on both heifers and cows.

Eye-Catching Comfort • Not just a data giant, but also an impressive individual. Quote from a respected livestock publisher, “He’s the best Hereford bull I’ve seen in several years”!
