Feast of the Saint Luke, Evangelist
The Parish Family of
ST. RAPHAEL CHURCH346 East Mount Pleasant Avenue
Livingston, New Jersey 07039
Served by
Rev. Jose Erlito Ebron, Pastor
Rev. Joseph Bejgrowicz, In Residence
From the desk & Parish Leade*hip Council
As you are reading this, our third family wedding this year is underway. !is one is particularly exciting because it is local, and we spent much more time watching the plans unfold: from the very romantic proposal, to the fairy tale bridal shower, and, #nally, to the wedding, which should be the answer to any couple’s dreams. We are lectors for the ceremony, which pleases us, as we love to read God’s Word aloud. While awaiting the big event, we listened to numer-ous conversations between the parents about who should be invited to the celebration. And then the questions began. How long does it take for someone to answer an invitation? What happens if there are too many people, or too few? Did we allow too much time for them to answer? Don’t they want to come?
!e king in the parable in today’s gospel seems to have had similar issues. His son was to be married, and it was a royal a$air – literally and #guratively. One would think that any-one who received an invitation would be thrilled to attend. But that wasn’t the case. Many turned down the invitation with extreme negativity, even killing the messengers. !e king turned to the streets for guests, opening the doors to the humble citizens who would never have had a chance to see the inside of the palace. !ey, too, were expected to clean up before attending, but the chance to see the king… WOW!
We have a similar invitation every day. God invites us to his feast – the Eucharistic Feast, to share in his gi&s; in particu-lar, the gi& of His Son. Did we ever shrug o$ the invitation and say we had other things to do? “!anks, but no thanks. Yes, I know you gave me the opportunity to be with you but I had something more important to entertain me. And those gi&s you bestowed on me? Well, they were gi&s and are now mine to do with as I wish. Do I really have to share them – especially with someone outside my family?” God gives generously, but he does expect us to shape up and act as we should when we have been given the best gi& ever, and to act as disciples, and be stewards of his kingdom.
We at St. Raphael’s try to o$er opportunities, through the Ministries, for each of the members of the Parish Family to recognize the gi&s we each have been given and to then use them. !ere is no shortage of people in need of a kind word, a shoulder to lean on, a meal, or an invitation to join us. We cannot be indi$erent to the call to share our time, talents, or treasures in a world that is in pain.
May God continue to bless us with His gi&s and may we use them generously!

checking in with the Parish Family: if you are the lead of a Ministry, would you please identify yourself to the PLC so that we can make sure you are on our list of Ministries. Letting us know who you are will have three impacts: you will be invited to a Ministry Morning, where all of the leads can share their ideas and goals and make sure we create a whole quilt from many pieces. You will also help us create a description of your Ministry that we can share with the Parish Family via a Ministry Booklet, in paper form and on our website. Just as important - we will include the ministries in a
Welcome Package that we are preparing for new parish members.
If you are Ministry lead, or if the previous lead is gone but you
would like to reactivate the Ministry, please contact the PLC

Thanks for your help!
If you would like to include any information in our church
bulletin, simply leave it on the desk in the main o! ce or email it to
[email protected] by the Saturday prior to the week ahead.
As of October 9, 2017, we have received $158,105.00 in pledges from 86 Parish Families. 35.33% of the Parish Family goal has been achieved! Of the pledged amount, funds amounting to $77,194.25 have already been received!
Remember! Once the funds received surpassed the Works of Mercy Goal, 50% of the additional funds received come back to us quarterly! Our current share to-date is $18,097.13. We have received four quarterly payments as of September 15, 2017 amounting to $15,849.56. THANK YOU!
If you are able, consider giving more of your pledge in the early portion of the 4-year campaign, so that those additional funds are returned to us sooner.

They – and we – want to help St. Joseph’s Grammar School in
Jersey City. The school is trying to collect 200,000 box tops this
year! If they reach their goal the school will receive $20,000!!!
The children at St. Joseph School were very excited when we
told them we would be joining them in collecting the box tops!
They have collected almost 24,000 box tops, with over 1000
from us! We surprised them with more box tops when they got
back in September. They will continue to collect until the end
of December.
