There is joy in praising the Lord

Today is the last Sunday of the month. In the

evening we shall deepen our spiritual journey as a parish by

coming together to sing praises to God. The Evening of Praise

is a time set aside to testify to the greatness of God. We shall

glorify the Lord in songs, prayers, talk , and in the personal

reflection on God’s love in our lives. The last book of the

Psalms was dedicated to the praises of God to show its

importance. The last verse, says, “let everything that breathes

sing praise to the Lord” (Ps 150:6). You and I received the breath

of God at creation and became living beings. Therefore, the

Almighty God has the right to receive praises from us his

creatures. We praise God for who He Is.

Singing the praises of God, opens us to his abundant blessings in

our lives and creates within us a sense of peace. We redirect the

focus from ourselves to God who knows the purpose of our

creation and would be able to guide us in life. We give ourselves

a break from various worries and anxiety in our lives to submit

everything at the foot of the cross of Christ. Jesus asked, “Can

any of you add a day to your life by worrying about it?” (Matt.

6:27). This is an opportunity to open our hearts to the Lord in

prayers of praise to him. Many people have experienced

breakthrough in their lives by singing praises to God from the

depth of their hearts.

The Lord desires to fill our hearts with the thoughts of his

greatness and powerful deeds. This may be our own time of

God’s favour as we trust in his almighty power. Every moment

in His presence is rewarded with joy and fulfillment. The

Psalmist says, “You make known to me the path of life; in your

presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures

forevermore” (Ps. 16:11). May the Lord give us the grace to sing

his praises all the days of our life. Amen.

The Evening of Praise is from 6:30pm to 8pm. Come along

with your family and friends!

Fr. Augustine

Today’s Psalm 103 reminds us that prayer is like a breath for the soul. Through this hymn we focus on the thanksgiving and

worshiping of God for everything that he has done for us. Let us meditate on a couple of verses from the psalm: Bless the Lord o my soul. At the beginning the psalmist addresses himself with a note of encouragement. It is a conscious direction of the intellect and the will towards God. Then he mentions matters for which he is grateful. He notices the good things that are happening in his life, but above all he turns to the One, from whom he has received it all. What can you thank God for today? As far as the east is from the west, so far he removes our transgressions from us . These two directions of the world are infinitely distant from each other. This is how great and radical God's forgiveness is. It sounds almost like the sin is such an evil that even coming close to it and “touching it” could be dangerous, but God still has the power to forgive all of our wrongdoings. How do you feel about sin? Do you understand the seriousness of sin? Do you believe in God’s mercy? Do you believe that God wants and desires to forgive your sins? Earth and sky, east and west are like two lines crossing each other. They form a great cross that is inscribed in the created world. The whole world can become a space for God's saving dialogue with each one of us. The cross is not only a sign of suffering, but it is the source of true life.
