A drama student at BlessedWilliam Howard Catholic HighSchool, Harry Gledhill (18),spent the last school yearplanning, writing, andchoreographing a murdermystery evening. On May 9th,the project culminated in asell-out event at Moseley OldHall, Wolverhampton.

The project formed part of hisBTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diplomain drama (equivalent to anA-Level) and Harry recruitedeleven other BWH dramastudents to star in hisperformance. Having lookedat many potential performancesites, Harry finally decided onMoseley Old Hall due to itsinteresting history and beautifulsetting.

Harry made many visits toMoseley in the organisation ofthe project considering capacityand negotiating dates and hirecosts. He was described as ‘veryprofessional’ in his dealing withthe National Trust site, who wereimpressed with his vision.

Harry chose a wedding as thestage for his murder, allowing theaudience to take part as weddingguests. All fifty guests arrivedto a complementary glass ofchampagne and were seated in amarquee for a wonderful evening

of interactive entertainment andintrigue.

The inspiration behind the murdermystery came from the venueitself. King Charles II hid therefrom Cromwell’s troops after hefled the Battle of Worcester in1651. Harry’s plot was basedaround a family who live atMoseley Old Hall (fictitious) andtheir daughter who was about toget married. The wedding wasinterrupted as a dramatic secretwas revealed and the murdervictims uncovered.

Harry’s clever plot meant thatonly one table of guests correctlyguessed the murderer andmotive.

“I was very proud of Harry’sachievement, he really did sucha professional job and everyone

enjoyed it so much. To plan andexecute an event such as thisshows an immense talent, as wellas demonstrating a wide rangeof skills from event planning tocreative writing and budgeting.”commented Nicky Tildesley,Drama teacher at BWH.

“I enjoyed being able to performin the grounds of a National Trustproperty and the experience oforganising an event from start tofinish was incredibly rewarding.”said Harry.
