After an exhausting few weeks we are finally settling into our new home and managing to make some order out of cha-os. It’s always a worry when your busi-ness moves with your home as to whether your internet connections will be estab-lished quickly and easily and I would love to say that this was the case but…… BT booked an appointment to turn up to sort this out for us with just one problem—they turned up at our ‘old’ address. The new residents were very happy as they had not one but two BT engineers whilst we had to wait another week before an engineer could call again. Come on BT it can’t be that difficult can it? We only moved a few miles.
If there is one thing for sure the local ser-vices who advertise in the FVD would go out of business very quickly if they fol-lowed BT’s format.
Happy reading!....... Catherine Catherine Dixon—Editor

STEAMED UP DOUBLE GLAZING?Don’t replace the Frames... just the Panes!
Cloudy2Clear Windows – Service With A Smile! It’s been a crazy few months for Cloudy2Clear Windows. The company which specialises in repairing windows which are steamed up, broken or damaged by replacing the panes – not the frames has grown rapidly as homeowners take advantage of their services. Managing Director Paul Spiller feels that it’s all about service. ‘Our product is simple. If your double glazing is misted up we can replace the glass at a fraction of the cost of a new window, in any type of frame, and with a new 5 year guarantee. But it’s not just about saving people money, although
that obviously helps. Many tradespeople have struggled since last year and I honestly feel that during the good times a minority perhaps didn’t focus on customer care as much as they should have done. We make sure we turn up when we say we will, do the job the customer requires and leave their house as clean as a whistle. I often get comments back from customers on how they really didn’t expect that sort of service which, in a way, is very sad for the service industry as a whole.’ Cloudy2Clear service Stroud and the surrounding valleys and
Paul is finding that his approach is a major factor in his success. ‘The truth is that it’s not just the personal satisfaction that I get from doing a good job but also it makes good business sense. I get a huge amount of business from friends and family
of people I’ve done work for, which just goes to show how much a little bit of effort is appreciated.’ So, if your windows are steamed up, broken or damaged give Paul a call for a free quotation on 0800 61 21 118 and he’ll be happy to help!

18Barking Mad Cotswolds is now two years old. Its success and steady growth have led to the appointment of Stroud-based Gillian Winstone as its Dog Care Operations Manag-er.
The alternative to kennels, Barking Mad is for dog owners who do not wish to put their best friends in boarding kennels while they are away on holiday or a business trip.
Instead the dogs go to stay with a Barking Mad host. These are people who love dogs and all the benefits they bring but don’t want the full-time, long-term commitment and costs.
Gillian and her partner John are very happy hosts for Barking Mad Cotswolds. As dog lovers and past owners they currently relish their freedom now that their children are grown up. They enjoy their canine guests, the walks and, the companionship but know that, a bit like grandchildren, at the end of their stay their doggie guests go home.
John said: “we very much enjoy our role as Barking Mad hosts, all the dogs which stay with us are just so well-adjusted, happy and loved. They make sure that we go on regular walks and we feel the benefit. Hosting enables us to combine our interests with the best bits of dog caring.”
Barking Mad Cotswolds is owned by Alun Davies, he said: “the excellent reputation of Barking Mad relies totally on our wonderful hosts. Due to the increasing demand for the
service, we are always looking for new hosts who share our love of dogs and our strong customer service ethos”.

Where were you born and brought up? I was born in Oxford, one of dissimilar twins – of a practical Swiss mother and philosophical father. We grew up in a village 10 miles south, among fields, brooks and trees…in what I now regard as nature’s playground. I recall feeling intrigued and profoundly moved by we human beings. As a very small child I recall my own view: that, as we are all here together on planet Earth, then we need to keep this in mind to help us get along with one another. I felt upset whenever adults in my world seemed to lose sight of that. As a child I was observant and reflective… and recall dreams and transformative inner experiences that shone a healing light into my life and my being. Naturally adventurous and explorative, I was also creative: drawing, painting, singing, composing and playing music, writing stories, plays, poetry... And though my home world was not an easy place in which to be, in primary school I felt free to be myself…where my creative ideas, climb-ing trees, and playful sense of humour were all well-recognised. (Every child needs this kind of feedback to help develop a deep healthy sense of self.) As a child and a teenager, while making numerous sketches of people I observed when out and about, I discovered an ability to sense the emotional/psychological state of each person as we passed. Others seemed to sense this empathy, confiding in me while I listened.
What did you do after you left school? At 16, on showing a set of pencil drawings at interview, I gained a place at Oxford Univer-sity’s Ruskin School of Drawing & Fine Art. There I studied the Ashmolean Museum’s original collection of old master drawings, and learnt to draw the human body in all an-gles with all its surface muscles. (Required to memorise that, this serves my work as artist to this day.) Graduating in 1975, I went on to hold exhibitions, paint portraits and land-scapes…and co-build the superstructure of a 70’ wrought iron narrowboat hull.

What led you to where you are now? Prior to my counselling and psychotherapy trainings – a natural progression from earlier years, my professional background includes educational work in special needs education, private art tuition, workshops in intuitive art & awareness, involvement as deputy of a day care centre for the elderly with experience in psychiatric care, and finally a post within adult acute psychi-atric care. For the greater part of my adult life, I continued to live in Ox-ford. However, drawn to beautiful Gloucestershire with its friendly people, I’m settling happily in the village of Painswick…where I’m building my second counselling & psychotherapy practice. (As an Integrative Counsellor & Transpersonal psychotherapist, with my background in fine art & medi-tation, in addition to I offer counselling & psychotherapy, I also offer psy-chotherapeutic creative expression, plus intuitive art tuition.) I find the practice of psychotherapy and fine art mutually nourishing – producing cre-ative therapy and therapeutic art.
Any interests and hobbies? I savour my twice-daily walks with our shaggy golden lurcher rescue dog (my ‘personal trainer’) in the outstandingly beautiful Gloucestershire coun-tryside around peaceful Painswick, while continuing to immerse myself in down-to-earth spirituality, (what I call) applied meditation & mindfulness, reflective writing, meeting the friendly Gloucestershire people …and, of course, drawing and painting – with the added inspiration of where I consid-er myself so fortunate to live!
What of your home life? Now at the stage in life where both son and daughter are grown, with lives of their own, I live with my beloved partner (she a complimentary therapist, now training in Psychosynthesis psychotherapy) – and, of course, our be-loved dog. Our home and garden combined are our shared creative project – in which our dog involves himself, with a naturally explorative interest…
Any plans for the future? Currently I’m exploring and writing on the theme of transpersonal art from a therapeutic transformative perspective, linking this to transpersonal psy-chotherapy and meditational mindfulness. Also, I’m preparing for two ex-hibitions of transpersonal art …to be held locally, later on this year. (For your interest: 1-5th August: Cotswold Room, Painswick Centre, Painswick Art Festival; 12th October –7th November, Star Anise Art Café, Stroud). Meanwhile, I’m looking forward to holding therapeutic /creative events, such as workshops & further exhibitions, in Gloucestershire in the future.

Corinium’s Clare clinches top award
Clare Janik, the Manag-ing Director of live-in care agency Corinium Care in Nailsworth, has won the title of Woman of the Year in the Gloucestershire Women in Business Awards 2015. There was double delight at the awards ceremony when the com-pany was also named a runner-up for Business of the Year.
The awards shine the spotlight on excellence and highlight the female entrepreneurs who are championing the county’s business scene.
Clare, who joined Corinium in 2003 and has played a pivotal part in its success, thanked her Nailsworth-based team for their hard work and support.
“Winning this award is an absolute honour and it’s a tribute to the entire team,” she said. “It has been an extraordinary year for Corinium Care. The company has introduced the biggest structural changes since its formation and we continue to go from strength to strength,” she said.
“We could not have achieved half of what we have without the dedication and sheer hard work of every member of staff. They have been brilliant.” The agency provides live-in care for elderly people, those with dementia and young adults with physical and learning disabilities. Founded in 1995, it has more than 800 registered carers as well as its head office staff, and recruitment offices in South Africa and Zimba-bwe.
In the last year the company transferred more than 300 self-employed live-in care workers on to the company payroll as salaried staff. The aim was to make sure that Corinium Care maintains its position as one of the leaders in the live-in care market, raising the bar and setting exemplary standards.
It was a seismic shift in the way the company operates and Clare led from the front, doing her utmost to keep staff, carers and clients on board throughout.
The winners in the Women in Business Awards 2015, organised by Gloucestershire Me-dia, were announced at a dinner at Cheltenham Racecourse, when Embarrassing Bodies star Dr Dawn Harper was the guest speaker.
Editor of the Citizen, Jenny Eastwood, praised all the entrants and said that Corinium Care and its MD were “inspirational”.

Don’t be afraid of your Phobias
Although we wouldn’t necessarily want to do away with our fears completely, we do want to be able to remain in control. Possible responses to fear include anger, panic attacks, or feeling faint and passing out. So, a few butterflies in the stomach are OK. These can feel very similar to excitement, but when our anxiety goes up too far and we lose control, then maybe we need to take some steps to change that reaction.Appropriately, in the case of real and present life threatening danger, or inappropriately, as can be the case with harmless spiders or flights abroad to go on holiday, whenever our anxiety goes up, we effectively move from operating within our evolved intellectual brain and instead move into the primitive emo-tional brain, where our ‘survival’ templates are stored. If what we did yesterday ensured our survival, we are encouraged to do it again. Such templates wouldn’t stand up to intellectual interrogation, but knowing this doesn’t help when the sufferer is in the grips of the phobic response. What happens in the moment is a kind of override. The primitive brain triggers the release of cortisol, which literally blocks intellectual functionality. In the moment, there is no controlling the fear.People who suffer from phobias often re-organise their lives to be able to avoid the problem, when what they actually need to do is to build an alternative desirable template.Thankfully, Hypnotherapists have a very effective technique for replacing the anxiety response template with one of the customer’s choosing, and it can be very quick to offer significant improvement even in extreme cases.
Now we all know what fear feels like. In fact, we can be glad of it in evolutionary terms, as we wouldn’t have survived without it. But the question is, whether the fear is appropriate given the actual level of risk or danger? Phobias can be defined as un-duely uncom-fortable fears, and to a greater or lesser extent will usually present a limitation or problem to the sufferer, which can be easily explained and rectified.

Summer is fast approaching and it is time to step up the beau-ty game. With summer comes long nights, bright sunshine and more and more time spent outdoors; but, it also brings with it a whole host of beauty dilemmas and problems that are not there in winter - melting makeup, frizzy hair and dry skin to name a few. Luckily, there are some beauty tips and tricks for summer to keep the beauty woes at bay and to keep you looking your best.
Get Summer Ready Get yourself summer ready with these simple beauty tips and tricks. The summer months are the perfect time to experiment with your beauty regime and to take on-board some little tweaks to get the most out of your look.
Coconut Oil Your Hair Though coconut oil is great for a number of different uses, one of the most popular is for keeping hair soft and protected from summer dryness. Simply coat your hair in coconut oil - a little goes a long way - and leave; it can be left for anywhere between half an hour and overnight, the longer the better! Once happy your hair has been moisturised and nourished, wash it out. Applying the shampoo before any water It really is that simple.
Deeply Moisturise Your Face In summer your skin is put to the test; air conditioning, sun and sweat all work to keep your skin from looking its best. By moisturising your skin regularly with a deeply moisturising cream or gel you can combat all of these and your face will have a great summer glow.
Keep Heels Looking Great It’ll soon be time to start wearing sandals, flip flops and open shoes, but this brings the wor-ry of cracked heels and dry feet. A top way to combat this is to moisturise your feet over night with body moisturiser or Vaseline. Coat your feet - focusing on the heels - in your cho-sen product and put on a pair of socks. Leave overnight and allow for the moisturiser to soak in and remove all traces of dry skin or cracked heels.
Avoid Powdery Makeup One of the biggest problems with beauty and the heat is keeping your makeup looking its best after a long day at the office or an evening out with friends. The heat can cause makeup to ‘melt’ off your face and hinders staying power. However, one way of combating this is by swapping powdery blushes and bronzers for cream based products. They stay put for a lot longer and tend to last longer without lifting. Although there are a number of beauty tips and tricks for summer, these four cover all bases - hair, face, makeup and feet. Summer does not need to mean that your beauty regime or practices are affected, but with a few extra additions summer can be a breeze.

We all have stories to tell, the pity is that so many go unheard.
