CHANNEL ISLANDS CHAPTER THE EMBROIDERERS’ GUILD OF AMERICA, INC. Volume XXXII The Stitchers’ Log Issue 6 November-December 2019 FROM THE BRIDGE We are almost at another year end. It's been a great year! We have new members, we made a patriotic bracelet, learned a flat fold finishing technique, worked on an ornament in Or Nui, learned how to do twisted cord and demonstrated at Scandinavian Days, the first Art in the Park at the Pleasant Valley Park District, the Ventura County Fair and Adolfo Camarillo's birthday celebration. We are in a good financial position. I am looking forward to new challenges in 2020 and beyond. We will be starting a new GCC, a Frenzy of Fringes, and Diane Sands, our new VP Programs, is working on an exciting year of programs. The National Seminar will be in Boston September 3 to 8, 2020, and the PSR seminar will be in Las Vegas April 28 to May 3, 2021. Of course, I still have courses to finish from previous workshops and seminars, but that never stops me from starting something new and fresh. Remember, learning keeps our minds young. Thank you to the officers and committee chairs and all the members for your help and support this year. We are still looking for a Newspaper Editor/Advertising, Regional Representative and a Community Outreach Demonstration Lead for the next two years. Please contact me if you are interested. November-December 2019

FROM THE BRIDGE

We are almost at another year end.

Louise, President

WEBSITE & FACEBOOK NEWS

The "Members Area" has the same logon, but a new password which you will have to contact me for. The next addition to our website will be photos of stitched pieces demonstrating types of embroidery. Hardanger will be the first category. Remember, visit frequently and stay on the site for a while. This will get our site higher up in the Search results. Let me know of any suggestions.

Louise, Webmaster

FROM THE CROW’S NEST: PROGRAM

Programs The October program will be on how to make a twisted cord that can be used to finish off small embroidered pieces. If you want to stitch a name badge with the new National EGA logo it would be a good item to use with a twisted cord finish. You can go to the National website and download any or all of the charts for the logo. This is a free program but I need to know how many people are interested so I can have enough supplies on hand. If you have a twisted cord machine ( either battery operated or a hand crank) please bring it to share.

Our December program is the Holiday Ornament Gift Exchange. Please bring your wrapped unsigned ornament for our exchange. Your ornament can be any size but it must be stitched. Also, include your name on the inside of the package so the recipient will know who to thank. January is our Birthday Month, and we will have our own Sharon Shimohara give us a brief presentation of how needlework is judged. This should be very interesting as it will tell you what judges look for when judging pieces. Please bring your questions for Sharon! Also, January will mark the end of our 2019 UFO contest. Please bring your completed UFO (You did finish it didn’t you? LOL!) to show and receive your $5 fee in return. Didn’t finish it? No problem - the chapter will gratefully receive your $5 donation! February will mark the start of the 2020 UFO challenge. Same rules as before - donate your $5 to be held until the end of 2020. If you finish your piece you get your money back. If not, DONATION!! to the chapter.

Group Correspondence Course 1. The GCC of choice is “Frenzy of Fringes”. Sign-ups will start at the December meeting. 2. The chapter will pick up the course fee of $175. Your cost to participate is the $58 text fee plus whatever materials

you’ll need for the project. 3. Your check of $58 is due when you sign-up for the GCC 4. The GCC coordinator will be Louise Pomes.

Note of Interest: Ornaments for the EGA Headquarters Holiday Tree

Would you like to see your stitched ornament on the EGA headquarters holiday tree? So would we! The EGA is looking for finished, stitched ornaments to display on its tree at headquarters during December. Now that they’re in their new space, they can’t wait to decorate for the holidays this year. They're open to donations of any kind of stitching, and you might see your ornament featured during the holiday ornament countdown on the website and social media. Each donated ornament will be tagged with the stitcher’s name. We would like as much participation from members as possible. So go ahead and work on them now, or choose one you have already stitched, and send them in (remember their address has changed: 1205 E Washington St, Suite 104, Louisville, KY 40206) by the end of November. They will keep all donations to use from year to year. Questions? Contact Cynthia at [email protected]

Mini-Group: {Meets alternating Fridays and Saturdays from 10 am to 2 pm. Bring your lunch!} November 9, from 10 to 2, at Kathy Q’s. Please bring your lunch and RSVP with her. No mini group meeting in December. We will have sign-ups for hosting the mini-groups in 2020 at the December Holiday Party.
