!!You’re invited to an evening of art and nature as the students at Charles Ellis Montessori Academy present their annual art show. This year’s collection of student-created masterpieces will be on display at the Savannah Botanical Gardens. Please come wander the garden paths and view a vast array of media all celebrating the artistic talents of students at Ellis. The show will be Tuesday, May 20th at 6:00 pm at 1388 Eisenhower Drive in Savannah, Georgia. We hope to see you there!

The Story of numbers: A Montessori Great Lesson!

The great lessons are a collection of five stories that make up an important part of the Montessori philosophy of eduction. The stories are meant to raise curiosity and spur questions concerning the world around us. The lessons chronicle the formation of the universe, the coming of life, the coming of humans, and the development of language and numbers. Initially introduced in lower elementary, the students use these lessons as a spring-board to guide their educational choices in the classroom. Today, we are pleased to present “The Story of Numbers”. In this great lesson, the creation of the modern number system is explained. Students are taught that the numbers that evolved into the ones we use today were first carved in wolf bones in 30,000 BCE. As the years passed, the Babylonians, Chinese, Romans, and Mayans all counted with unique numerical symbols. Today, we use numbers directly influenced by the Hindu-Arabic culture. We hope you enjoy our “timeline of numbers” as it is presented by the 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students at Charles Ellis Montessori Academy. The entire script, most song lyrics, sets, props, and costumes are completely student created for your entertainment. We hope that our presentation of The Story of Numbers will inspire you to explore the rich history of written and spoken communication through history.
