THE VILLAGE Walthamstow Village Residents’ Association Newsletter Autumn 2012 www.walthamstowvillage.net Leer from the Editor Dear Readers, I hope that you had a good summer and felt some of the excitement of having the Olympics and Paralympics on our doorstep. The Village’s Teresa Deacon was chosen to carry the Olympic Torch and doesn’t she look great? Whether you volunteered to help out or were involved in local events or caught some of the highlights on TV, or even if (like me) you’re not a great fan of sport at a competitive level, it was a great time to be in East London. Even closer to home, the Village looked spectacular for the In Bloom judging in July – we’ll bring you the results in the next newsleer. Our Annual General Meeting is coming up on October 8th at 8pm at the Welcome Centre, 8 Church End, E17 9RJ. This is a prime opportunity for residents to voice concerns about the local area and let us know your ideas for improvements. We have been involved in a number of local campaigns such as working with the Council to ensure that conservation area standards are maintained; surveying residents ourselves so that the new controlled parking zones are more sensitive to local needs; pushing to get a Post Office re-opened in the Village; geing areas cleared which have become dumping grounds. We need your input to know what issues are important to local residents and what you think should be done. We will also announce the results of the In Bloom competitions and hand out certificates to the winners and all participants at the meeting. If you would like to contribute to our work, whether informally or as a commiee member, please get in touch - you can e-mail us at [email protected] or see us at the meeting. In any event, please come along – the meeting is open to all, and local councillors will also be there. If you have any comments, info, articles, events, etc. for our winter newsleer, please send them to [email protected]. Sarah and the Newsleer team News Annual Curry Supper Quiz This annual event is back by popular demand! Come along and show off your general knowledge, your memory for the nooks and crannies of the Village, or just have fun and a home-cooked halal meal. The Curry Supper Quiz 2012 will take place on Saturday 17th November, 7 - 10pm at St. Mary’s Welcome Centre. Max. 10 per team or individuals very welcome.
