“Paying it Forward”The Class of 2011, in leaving a legacy of responsibility, have initiated the “Pay it Forward” scholarship. Three talented and worthy candidates from the classes of 2012, 2013, and 2014 will each be awarded a $500 scholarship. The “Pay it Forward” scholarship was instituted to give tuition assistance to deserving ‘average Joe’ students who may not otherwise qualify for scholarship assistance. The Class of 2011 hands the challenge on to the Class of 2012 to make this scholarship a school tradition.

The well-attended event was the culmination of six years of dedication and commitment on the part of the school’s Board, Parents, Students and Staff at the school. The Center will provide St Joe’s with an additional 19,000 square feet of educational space, encompassing an art center, additional classrooms, a 250-seat lecture hall for academic and community events, and a new media/library center. Work will run through the next 18 months. His Excellency, William E. Lori, Bishop of the Diocese of Bridgeport, was on hand to bless the ground and lead the shovel parade. He spoke about the role St Joseph has played in providing quality Catholic college preparatory education in Fairfield County and congratulated the school on its mission and vision. First Selectman, Tim Herbst, on behalf of Town of Trumbull, praised the school’s success and offered thanks for the school’s role in making Trumbull a town of choice. Among those joining the Bishop at the ground-breaking were Monsignor Shea, former director of the school, SJ Board Finance Director Mr. Francis McGettigan, Coach Mr. Vito Montelli, Facilities Committee Chair, Mr. Robert O’Keefe, and St Joe’s Student Body President, John Bennet. Many parents and alumni and faculty and staff were also on hand to share the excitement. Chairman of the Board, Atty. Patrick Lapera, thanked the donors and benefactors for helping the dream come true. Coach Montelli has just been selected the National High School Boys Basketball Coach of the Year by the National high School Coaches Association. More to follow.
