My Dear Parishioners,

WE GIVE THANKS TO GOD. We are dependent on God for everything that we are, for our

very lives. And God has blessed us with one another. Thanksgiving is a good time to give

thanks to God for all the blessings which have been bestowed on us throughout this past

year. When we share our blessings with one another, we help and encourage each other

in the building up of the Kingdom of God. I want to thank all of you at St. Monica Catholic

Parish for sharing and living your faith this past year. Your example encourages and

helps to bring an awareness of Christ so desperately needed in the world. On behalf of

Fr. Wade Bass, our deacons, our seminarian, and our entire staff, we extend to you and

your family our prayers during this Thanksgiving week. We pray for all travelers and all

families. Please remember to thank God by participating at Holy Mass on Thanksgiving!

Presentation of the Virgin Mary (Nov. 21st) The Presentation of the Blessed Virgin

Mary recalls the ancient Jewish custom of taking the child to the temple to present

her to God in thanksgiving for the gift of her life. The child would then be dedicated

to God during this ceremony. How appropriate that she who was to be the Mother of

God was dedicated to God at such an early age. St. Joachim and St. Ann were faithful to

God and good parents wanting to give the best to their daughter Mary right away. All

good parents are called to be faithful to God in the practice of their faith. Canon Law

reminds us that “Parents are obliged to take care that infants are baptized in the first few

weeks; as soon as possible after the birth or even before it, they are to go to the pastor

to request the sacrament for their child and to be prepared properly for it.” (867 §1).

Certainly good parents want to give their child the best and that includes the opportunity

for grace in the sacraments. Another reason for baptism of infants is that they are “born

with original sin and need to be freed from the power of the Evil One and brought into

that realm of the freedom which belongs to the children of God” (Compendium #258). In

Baptism, the child who is a gift of God becomes a child of God and an heir to eternal life

with Christ. Thanks to all parents who have cooperated with God’s grace by having their

children baptized and by encouraging their children in the learning of their faith.

In Christ,Fr. Guadagnoli

DAMOS GRACIAS A DIOS.

Guadagnoli
