From the Pastor

Dear Parishioners,

The movie, “The Passion of The Christ” can be a powerful meditation for the season

of Lent. Christ is depicted not in the “sanitized” version that we might be used to

seeing. Purposely, He is portrayed in His suffering, the suffering He painstakingly

chose and endured in order to redeem us. But we can miss this fact if we neglect to

take seriously this special time of grace in order to encounter in our sufferings, in the

practice of our faith, the Christ, the Redeemer of the world. The discipline of Lent, the

practice of self-denial will help us to be more aware of our need for Christ and our

true need for repentance in our conversion of heart. Be aware that the devil wants

us to be distracted and not make a good effort at the discipline of Lent because it

may be too hard, too uncomfortable for us. There is the danger of falling back into

only seeing that “sanitized” version of Jesus Whom we keep at a distance. Instead,

let us humbly and sincerely step up closer to the reality of Our Lord and realize His

ongoing desire to forgive, to heal, and to share with all of us His divine life because He

loves us. Let us discipline ourselves through our more frequent prayer, through our

self-effacing penances for all sin, and let us strive to grow in trust of the All-merciful

Christ. This is a great opportunity to walk with Our Lord through the daily readings

of Scripture. As we take each step with Christ, let us take advantage of this God-given

time and His precious gift of grace!

Sincerely yours in Christ,Fr. Michael Guadagnoli

Michael Guadagnoli
