Julia Barretto, grateful debutanteBy Marinel R. Cruz

    TEEN star Julia Barretto said herd a d D e n n i s P a d i l l a w a s“shocked” when she invited himto her 18th birth anniversary celebration (tonight).

“I surprised him. I said, ‘Dad

here is your invitation. What will you wear?’ He looked at mefor a moment and then startedtalking. I kept quiet and lis-tened,” Barretto related during

a press conference for her de-but, which will be held at theRizal Ballroom of MakatiShangri-La Hotel.

The rumored rift between Juliaand Dennis surfaced in July 2014,

when the young star filed a peti-tion in court to have her surname

legally changed from Baldivia, herdad’s surname, to Barretto, hermom Marjorie’s.

In December, Dennis said he was hurt when Julia ignored

him at a Christmas party. Mar- jorie explained that Julia hadbeen “scared” because he re-portedly said hurtful wordsabout the petition.

Weeks before her debut, Ju-lia decided to make peace withher father. “Wounds take time

to heal,” she told reporters.“But if you wait too long, it may be too late. Should that happen,I would be devastated.”

Julia, who said she “felt100 percent relieved,” alsoannounced she has decid-ed to keep using her dad’ssurname. “We haven’ttalked about it as a family. This is the first time I’mmentioning it. There’s real-ly no need to change my

last name.”She denied talk that she was using her father forpublicity: “How could peo-ple even think a child

would do that? He is my dad. Why wouldn’t I wantto be okay with him?”

She invited every mem-ber of her family, includingfeuding aunts Gretchen andClaudine, to her party tonight, Julia said. However, she refused to confirm ordeny the rumor that her

    mom and Claudine have recon-

ciled and that Gretchen was feel-ing sore about it.“[These questions are best] an-

swered by my mom and aunts,”she said. “I don’t want to inter-fere.”

A video about Julia’s debutshown during the press confer-ence featured an interview withClaudine. “I’m happy to hearfrom her again,” Julia said. “Ihope everyone important to me

will be present. I want to be-lieve that’s the purpose of my

    debut.”

Julia will wear a gown by in-

ternational designer MichaelCinco for her party. Its colorscheme is white, gray and silver. The ceremonial 18 Roses dance

will feature Dennis Padilla, Mat-teo Guidicelli, Rayver Cruz, En-chong Dee, Khalil Ramos, RobiDomingo, Sam Concepcion, Do-minic Roque, Leon Barretto,Mark Barretto, John Barretto,Cholo Barretto, Jason Soong,Mark Soong, Miguel Barretto,John Lapus, Enrique Gil andIñigo Pascual. Why Marian is worry-freeBy Dolly Anne Carvajal

NEWLYWED Dingdong Dantes is back to thegrind. He portrays a parish priest in GMA 7’snew series, “Pari Koy” (weeknights after “24

    Oras”).

I told my  amigo Dong thathis role is a perfect fit now thathe’s married. Playing a priestmeans he has no leading lady,so his fab wife, Marian Rivera,

will be worry-free. But if allpriests were as gorgeous as thisone, I’m sure more women

would hear Holy Mass and goto confession.

    Here’s my one-on-one withDong:

Any cute anecdote s onmarried life?

I love that my wife experi-ments in the kitchen for me.

    How has marriage changed you?

I look forward to going homeearly and I wake up in the

morning eager to work for ourfuture family.

How many kids do youplan to have?

We have not decided. How do you settle misun-

derstandings? We go back to our wedding vows.

Aiko’s triumphI am mighty proud of my “sis”

Aiko Melendez for winning bestactress at the International Film-makers Festival of World Cinemain London for her role in LouieIgnacio’s “Asintado.”

    Here’s my  tête-à-tête with Aiko:

How is this award making you feel?

It keeps me grounded. ToLord Jesus be the glory. Hemade me shine.

    What did your winning role

teach you?It was a humbling experi-ence. It made me realize thatmany crying scenes are notneeded to make a touchingfilm.

What’s one love lesson youintend to apply to your nextrelationship?

Make God a part of it andeverything will fall into place.
