    LOVE.LIFE

Love after healingBy Sher Pauline Palola

I REMEMBER I once apol-ogized to my journal be-

    c a u s e a l l I c o u l d e v e rwrite was how heartbro-ken I was. It is quite evi-dent whenever I scan my  journal now because I canbarely read what I havewritten there. My tearshad made my unreadablecursive handwriting evenmore difficult to read.

I had a rough time convinc-ing myself that love still existed.

    I grew up with an image of m y f a t h e r d a n c i n g w i t h m y  mother on the wee hours of themorning on their wedding an-niversary while Eric Clapton’s“Wonderful Tonight” played inthe background. Dressed in pa-

jamas while clutching my teddy bear, I told myself that when Igrow up, I would look for a man

who wou ld als o swe ep me off my feet and dance with me allnight.

But l ik e all dances, every song eventually comes to anend. My parents separated whenI was in college and the image Ihad in my mind was replaced by images of annulment papers be-ing signed.

    I t w a s j u s t a f e w m o n t h s

away from my graduation and Icouldn’t afford any form of  stress or problems that would bedetrimental for me to get that

ve ry fi rs t La ti n ho no r in ou rfamily. Looking at the medal I

worked hard for hanging in my

room now, I’ve always wonderedhow I was able to survive it.

    I u s e d t o b e a s h a m e d o f  t e l l i n g t h i s s t o r y b e c a u s e Ithought that people would look at me very lowly because I camefrom a broken family. But they

and sisters in the community gave their love and support

whe n the Phil ipp ines was rav-aged by Supertyphoon “Yolan-da.” Love was when I heard ourcountry being prayed for in theChurch of Reconcil iat ion. I

would never forget how one sis-ter cried with us Filipinos whilereading news articles and view-ing pictures from the Internet of the devastation the typhoon hadcaused.

Love was when the othergirls I was living with threw asurprise birthday party for meand made me feel I was neveraway from home.

And love was when I receiveda letter from a man I left in the

Philippines.I was so sure back then that wi th th e he ar ta ch es I’ d be enthrough, I would not be able tolove again. But life is always fullof surprises.

Ours was a love story no oneever saw coming. We were bothserving the Church and I lookedup to him as an older brotherand a friend. But I guess Cupidhad other plans for us. Our loveh a s d e v e l o p e d , g r e w a n dbloomed into a union which we

are now both cherishing andpraying for to be eternal.

He is someone whom I al- ways cons ider a grea t surp riseand a blessing from God. Hecame into my life at the mostperfect time as I swore never tobe blinded with a shallow illu-sion of love.

Every time he holds my hand,I am certain he is the one Godsent for me to never feel aloneagain. Looking at his eyes, I now

know I have a shot at happy endings.

    Warriors eyeto even series

CLEVELAND—The top-seededGolden State Warriors are feelingan unfamiliar sense of urgency tosort out their offensive woes intime to even up the best-of-sevenNBA Finals with the LeBronJames-led Cleveland Cavaliers.Cleveland silenced league MostValuable Player Stephen Curryand the Warriors’ run-and-gun of-fense for the bulk of Tuesday’s

Game Three to open up a 2-1 se-ries lead that will surely test Gold-en State’s resolve. “I’ve alwaysbeen challenged my whole careernot to let made or missed shotsaffect what else you do on thefloor,” Curry said on Wednesday.“It’s not a good trait for any bas-ketball player to kind of have yourgame reflect whether you’re mak-ing or missing shots.” Curry had ahorrendous start to Game Threebut somehow found a rhythm lateand finished with a team-high 27points as Golden State clawedback from a 20-point deficit to trail

by one late in the final quarter. Ac-cording to Curry, bringing that mo-mentum into Thursday’s GameFour will be crucial to helping histeam avoid being pushed into ado-or-die situation for the first timein these playoffs. “It does help tosee shots go in, and you start tobuild a rhythm and build momen-tum,” said Curry.   Reuters
