Repaso – KEY GRAMMAR TERMS

Subject – WHO or WHAT the sentence is about Felix washes the dishes.

Verb – The action of a sentence. The verb is conjugated according to the subject. Felix washes the dishes

Conjugate – to change a verb so that it AGREES with the subject. I sweep. Felix sweeps.

Repaso

A verb unconjugated (no subject) is called the INFINITIVE form of the verb

There are three “classes” of infinitives in Spanish: –ar, -er, or -ir Ejemplo: bailar = to dance

envolver = to wrap recibir = to receive

When you conjugate a verb, you add endings according to which “class” of verb it is (ej: hablar takes –ar verb endings while comer takes –er verb endings)

Decir has several irregular forms; only vosotros & nosotros is regular

Venir is also a ‘yo-go’ verb and has a stem-change in the 2nd and 3rd person forms (cousins with ‘tener’)
