The Big Buddha and Po Lin Monastery
Tour Stops
Tai O Fishing Village
Po Lin Monastery
Tai O, a unique fishing village where many of the homes are built on stilts. Tai O, also known as the "Venice of the East" was once the largest inhabited settlement on Lantau Isalnd. The village's stilt houses on the waterfront, offer a glimpse into Hong Kong's past and provide a striking contrast with the modern city.
Once merely a remote monastery hidden by lush, mountain scenery, the Po Lin Mon-astery made it to the world map when the extraordinary Tian Tan Buddha statue (in-formally known as the Big Buddha) was erected in 1993. Sitting 34 metres high and facing north to look over the Chinese people, this majestic bronze Buddha draws pil-grims from all over Asia.

Tang Chung Ling Ancestral Hall
Lam Tsuen Wishing Tree
Originally built in 1525 and rebuilt around 1700, the Tang Chung Ling Ancestral Hall is the oldest and largest ancestral hall in Hong Kong, now listed as a Declared Mon-ument. The whole building is exquisitely decorated with fine wood carvings, poly-chrome plaster mouldings, ceramic sculptures and murals containing auspicious Chi-nese motifs.
Villagers would throw joss paper into two trees and make wishes. They believed that the higher the branch the joss paper landed on, the more likely it was the wish would come true. People from all over Hong Kong still come here in their droves to make wishes during festivals.
