Town Crier K i n g ’ s G r a n t
December 2017
Sightings this past month: Elves, disguised as our three
outdoor maintenance men, busy putting
up trees and lights EVERY where in the
main building! Then here come some
more Elves – enthusiastic residents –
adding the lovely decorations! What a
wonderful, joyful sight! Merry
Christmas, for sure!
Kings Grant is blessed with many
trees given by past and present residents.
The Lights of Love tree in the
Remembrance Garden is a live 12 foot
tree decorated in honor of your donations
of money to the Fellowship Fund.
Luminaries will be added this year along
the walkways in memory of those that
have passed away
during the year.

Comments on Campus:
“O Christmas tree, O
Christmas tree! You are lovely,
but how many more must go
up?” (the Elves!) “Beautiful! So
many pretty ornaments.”
“How many trees are
there?” (15, according to the
Elves!) “Look at all of the
handmade ornaments! A lot of
hard work.”
“Have you seen the Chrismons on
the tree in the Chapel? Very
meaningful.”
My wish to you this
season - much
happiness and
good health!

Matthew 1: 18 – 24 “Now the birth of Jesus the Messiah took place
in this way. When his mother Mary had been engaged to Joseph, but before they lived together, she was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit. Her fiancée, Joseph, being a righteous man and unwilling to expose her to pub-lic disgrace, planned to dismiss her quietly. But just when he had resolved to do this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph don’t be afraid to take Mary as your wife, for the baby conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will bear a son and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.”
All this took place to fulfill what had been spoken by the Lord through the prophet: “Look, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall name him Emmanuel,” which means, “God is with us.” When Joseph woke up he did as the angel of the Lord commanded him; he took her as his wife.
The Christmas story, recorded in Matthew and Luke, has
become so familiar that I wonder if we grasp the reality of what actually
happened. An angel told a young virgin that she would have a child by
the power of the Holy Spirit. The angel then told Joseph to marry her
and name the baby Jesus. Shepherds saw angels in the sky and were told
of a Savior’s birth in Bethlehem. Wise men traveled hundreds of miles
to worship the One who, they said, has been born King of the
Jews. Amazing!
Equally astonishing is that Mary, Joseph, the shepherds, and the
wise men did as they had been told. Mary yielded herself to God;
Joseph took on responsibility, and shepherds and wise men went to
Bethlehem. With no idea of the outcome they all took the next step by
faith in the Lord.
How is it with us this Christmas? Will we trust God and follow His
leading even when we face uncertainty and overwhelming
circumstances? Few people will follow the leading of God and step out
in faith when they can’t see the way. “Faith never knows where it is
being led, but it loves and knows God
who is leading the way”. Claim the
23rd Psalm for the month of
December! May the joy and peace of
God be with you for the remainder of
2017 and as we jump into January
2018.

Resident Corner
Do you know the BEST kept secret at King’s Grant?
NO it’s NOT bocce ball on Thursdays! Neither is it volleyball in the pool Monday, Wednesday &
Fridays! It’s NOT even noodle ball!
It is dinner on Monday nights during Happy Hour at Francks' Place about 5:00 pm! Maybe YOU are
like Harry & I and NEVER considered Happy Hour at Franck’s Place!
We are (sweet) tea & water drinkers & frankly-pretzels & nuts at 4:30 didn’t “turn us on”. We
thought we were “happy enough” eating donuts & ice cream alone in our quiet little home on Monday
nights. (LOL). One night, all this changed for US!!!! As we passed Francks' Place early on a Monday
night, we recognized a number of our friends’ cars & wondered WHAT was going on surely it wasn’t
just the drinks, pretzels & nuts?
Now anyone who knows us KNOWS we didn’t just barge into Franck’s Place! Harry with his gentle,
slow, reserved demeanor maneuvered his walker until we could see everyone & EVERYONE could
see us! We couldn’t back out!
Mike, the cook, welcomed us and told us the dinner special of the night chicken shish kabobs. YUM!
Amanda, the waitress at the time, served us as if we were her usual ‘happy hour goers’. She was
pleasant & efficient. Other people made room for us around their table. We met new friends. We
appreciated the food put before us.
Mike has cooked many, many special dishes for us since then! HE is such an enthusiastic, talented
cook; and, he just LOVES thinking up new dishes! Whatever he prepares is tasty and presented with a
special flare! Mike takes suggestions cheerfully & humbly.
We at King’s Grant are fortunate to have someone as special as Mike! Harry and I have become firm
supporters of Francks' Place. If you haven’t all ready, please join us on
Monday nights! We’ll make room for you at the table. Why should YOU
be eating donuts & ice cream alone when you could be enjoying great
food, excellent service, & super companionship?

Try to avoid situations that further confuse or frustrate many patients:
-crowds of people who expect the individual to remember them
-noise, loud conversations or loud music
-strange or different surroundings
-changes in light intensity - too bright or too dark
-over-indulgence in rich or special food or drink (especially alcohol)
-change in regular routine and sleep patterns
If possible scheduling activities, especially some outdoor exercise, early in the day to avoid
the fatigue from added activity at the end of a long day.
Familiar holiday music, story-telling, singing or church services (even on TV) may be
especially enjoyable
Remember you do not have to live up to the holiday expectations of relatives or friends

Misbehavior
Twas the night before Christmas, and all through King’s Grant, Not a creature was stirring, to stay awake we just can’t.
The hearing aids were nestled in a cup by the bed, while vi-sions of bingo danced through our heads.
The support stockings were hung on the railing to dry, and Medicare changes were making some cry.
Ma in the bed, and I in my chair, both fell asleep and snored like a bear. The moon on the lake reflected a bright light, so the geese were all hiding from Dwight.
When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter, it made all of my dentures start to chatter. I eased up from the chair with a one two three…and limped to the window on my bad knee. When what to my wondering eyes should appear, just a big fuzzy lump without my glasses near.
Dressed in a red robe with a long white beard, and standing so tall, I thought it was my neighbor from just down the hall. A dog behind him followed dragging a big red sack, and I won-dered where was the rest of the pack?
He whistled and shouted, and called out some names. “Now
Blondie, now Teddy, umm, Daisy, Lady or Beau” Where in my
memory did the dog’s name go?
He threw out the gifts and then turned to go. I asked him San-
ta why are you moving so slow? Laying a finger aside of his
nose, he whispered, “my hip’s about to go”.
He limped to his sleigh and gave a faint whistle, and off he
took like a missile. But I heard him exclaim
ere he drove out of sight, Merry Christmas to
all, and to all a good night.
The End.
