Triple C ProgrammeRafflesGirls’School(RGS)hasalegacyofvaluingcommunityengagement.Forthestudents,we do this through advocacy and community problem-solvingprojects.Similarly,manyteacherscollaborate,shareandlearnprofessionalpracticeswithmembersoftheeducationalfraternity.
TheTripleCProgramme,whichstandsforCare,CollaborationandCommunity,symbolisesourdeepdesiretocontinuewiththislegacyofcommunityengagementandpartnership.Theobjectivesoftheprogramme are as follows:a)Nurturesenseofconnectednesstosocietalissuesb)Developleadershipandinterpersonalskillsc)Facilitatestudentoutreach
Triple C PartnersThisprogrammeisatripartitecollaborationbetweenRGS,threeprimaryschoolsandtwoSocialServiceAgencies(SSAs)intheBraddell-ToaPayohvicinity.TheprimaryschoolsareKhengChengSchool,FirstToaPayohPrimarySchoolandMarymountConventandtheSSAsareXinYuanCommunityCareandGoodShepherdStudentCare.Inthis3-yearprogramme,aboutthirtyRGSstudentspartner with a similar number of primary school studentsinamentoringrelationshipastheyengageinServiceLearningprojectswiththeSSAs.Thefollowingyear,anotherthirtypairsofstudentswillparticipateinthisprogramme.Overtime,wehope
togrowTripleCProgrametoinvolvemoreschoolsandSSAs.
Student SelectionFortheRGSstudents,Year2studentsareinvitedtoapplyusingaself-evaluationrubric.Formteachersprovide input using a similar rubric. The shortlisted studentsarethenpairedwiththePrimary4studentswhoarenominatedbytheirrespectiveschools. The pairing is based on common interests likeCo-CurricularActivities.
Co-Planning and Co-LearningMost of the student pairs have met and interacted. Inthecomingyear,thestudentpairswillcustomisetheir service learning projects to the needs of the assignedorganisation.AtXinYuanCommunityCare,thestudentpairswillsupportandorganiseactivitieslikefloralarrangement,artandcraft,sing-a-longsessionsandexcursionsfortheelderly.AtGoodShepherdStudentCare,thestudentpairswillorganiseactivitieslikeDramaTheatreandSportsfor the lower primary students as well as jointly organiseablockpartyfortheelderlyinToaPayoh.Allinall,thestudentpairswillmakethreevisitstotheSSAs.
Skills DevelopmentTheTripleCProgrammeprovidesarichplatformforthestudentstodevelopandapplydiverseskills.Forinstance,RGSstudents,wholearnprojectmanagementskillsthroughtheirValues-in-Actionproject,areabletohoneandrole-modeltheseskillsastheyjointlyplanandreviewtheirprojectswiththeirmentees.ThepersonnelattheSSAswillfurther guide their learning in the preparatory and post-visitreflectionsessions.
Inaddition,thestudentswilljointlylearntheskillsofengagingwiththeelderlythroughaworkshopbyHospiceCareAssociation.Theywillalsobeguidedandmentoredinleadershipskillsbytheirrespectiveteacher-mentorsandcounsellorsthroughthoughtfulconversations.Toroundoffthisexperience,thestudentpairswillparticipateintheannualRGSCommunity Fair where they will jointly share their learningexperience.
Inconclusion,theTripleCProgrammecreatesacommonspaceforinteractionsregardlessofsocio-economicbackground,ageorability.Atitsheart,thisprogrammeisaboutconnectedness.Asparticipantscollaborate and share ideas together to support the community,relationshipsareformed.Thepowerfulingredientinthiscollaborationisundoubtedly,community-centredness.
