Triple C Programme Raffles Girls’ School (RGS) has a legacy of valuing community engagement. For the students, we do this through advocacy and community problem-solving projects. Similarly, many teachers collaborate, share and learn professional pracces with members of the educaonal fraternity. The Triple C Programme, which stands for Care, Collaboraon and Community, symbolises our deep desire to connue with this legacy of community engagement and partnership. The objecves of the programme are as follows: a) Nurture sense of connectedness to societal issues b) Develop leadership and interpersonal skills c) Facilitate student outreach Triple C Partners This programme is a triparte collaboraon between RGS, three primary schools and two Social Service Agencies (SSAs) in the Braddell-Toa Payoh vicinity. The primary schools are Kheng Cheng School, First Toa Payoh Primary School and Marymount Convent and the SSAs are Xin Yuan Community Care and Good Shepherd Student Care. In this 3-year programme, about thirty RGS students partner with a similar number of primary school students in a mentoring relaonship as they engage in Service Learning projects with the SSAs. The following year, another thirty pairs of students will parcipate in this programme. Over me, we hope to grow Triple C Programe to involve more schools and SSAs. Student Selecon For the RGS students, Year 2 students are invited to apply using a self-evaluaon rubric. Form teachers provide input using a similar rubric. The shortlisted students are then paired with the Primary 4 students who are nominated by their respecve schools. The pairing is based on common interests like Co-Curricular Acvies. Co-Planning and Co-Learning Most of the student pairs have met and interacted. In the coming year, the student pairs will customise their service learning projects to the needs of the assigned organisaon. At Xin Yuan Community Care, the student pairs will support and organise acvies like floral arrangement, art and craſt, sing- a-long sessions and excursions for the elderly. At Good Shepherd Student Care, the student pairs will organise acvies like Drama Theatre and Sports for the lower primary students as well as jointly organise a block party for the elderly in Toa Payoh. All in all, the student pairs will make three visits to the SSAs. Skills Development The Triple C Programme provides a rich plaorm for the students to develop and apply diverse skills. For instance, RGS students, who learn project management skills through their Values-in-Acon project, are able to hone and role-model these skills as they jointly plan and review their projects with their mentees. The personnel at the SSAs will further guide their learning in the preparatory and post-visit reflecon sessions. In addion, the students will jointly learn the skills of engaging with the elderly through a workshop by Hospice Care Associaon. They will also be guided and mentored in leadership skills by their respecve teacher-mentors and counsellors through thoughul conversaons. To round off this experience, the student pairs will parcipate in the annual RGS Community Fair where they will jointly share their learning experience. In conclusion, the Triple C Programme creates a common space for interacons regardless of socio- economic background, age or ability. At its heart, this programme is about connectedness. As parcipants collaborate and share ideas together to support the community, relaonships are formed. The powerful ingredient in this collaboraon is undoubtedly, community-centredness.
