This is a renovation project of a duplex unit in an 85-year-old housing for a family of four. Since they have not been brought up in Amsterdam where they have a lot of gloomy weather, their request was to have maximum

sunlight in the house. And also they want to have a space where they can feel each other.

Originally, there is a skylight at the top of staircase which connects upper and lower floors. Though the staircase itself was filled with sunlight coming

from the skylight, the stairs and walls around them prevent the light from entering into the other part of the house. We took away the stairs, walls and a part of the upper floor’s slab, so that the sunlight can spread into all over

the house. At the same time, the void connects the family.

There is a symbolic tower-shaped element standing through the house. Kitchen, bathroom and toilets are packed into the tower, utilizing existing pipe box. We placed new grating stairs climbing around the tower to create some place to stay at various levels. With the new circulation and spatial device, the family can create and enjoy various scenes of their daily life.

Mulini Beach is located in an attractive area of Rovinj, on the exit from the central part of the city and in the continuation of the promenade, in front of hotels Monte Mulini, Lone and Eden, wrapped in a rich green public park and green forest protective areas.

It is an extension of the city’s public area and the promenade whose primary function is to connect the city of Rovinj and park Punta Corrente.An extremely important factor in the design of the beach was the relationship to existing terrain. With regard to the specific environment that is completely different depending on the time of day (the sea level varies in approximately 80 cm) due to the influence of the tides the design was dependent on the sea as a variable element, the sea has significantly influenced the creative decisions during the design process.

That is why the entire area of the beach is divided into two zones - a stretch from the marina to the beach pavilion that is greatly influenced by the waves, and a much calmer bay with a pebble beach. The first zone is designed as a natural topography, with lots of fractured surfaces for sunbathing and relatively sparse veg-etation. The calmer Lone bay is formed as a pebble beach with lush vegetation that gently slopes into the sea.

Mulini Beach Bar, a beach facility with a large bar, locker rooms, showers, toilets and an information desk is located in the center of the zone. In the evening, the beach bar turns

into a more intimate lounge with a cozy atmosphere by the sea. It is designed as a pavilion with a floating pergola roof - a steel structure that rests on 6 points, whose final shape

was determined by an analysis of the sun movement through the summer months.

The pergola, weighing 20 tons, has a span of 30m in length. It is constructed from steel sheets 8mm and 20mm thick, and has a total height of 20cm. The bar can be closed with a sliding wall that is stored inside a storage room during the day. The sliding wall is hung from the pergola construction. The plateau in front of the bar is equipped with infrastructure that

allows small concerts and entertainment.

This strong trait gives the opening words to the creation of a space that interprets the innovative urban concept of underground by exploring chaotic flow lines conveyed in metro stations.

The feeling of entering into a metropolitan area in which everybody is going for embarking on a travel, is strong from the entrance: the sliding door with the logo of the company opens like in a subway, introducing the passenger

in an emotional atmosphere. Visually, the eye is immediately caught by an unidentified object: a huge red faceted solid that contains within it the

spearhead of the offices, the DaVinci Resolve, the most powerful and inno-vative system of color correction. From this conceptual meteorite, in collision

with the sub-urban environment, start multiple cuts of light that symbolize the underground lines.

The residues from the finished stone productions offer new functional as well as aesthetic opportunity: by simply reassembling and observing them from other points of view, gives them a new life which is then realized in a different context. In fact, from the perspective of full sustainability, a residue which is not useful today may easily be reinterpreted and brought to imagine in a domestic sphere.

Born and raised in United Kingdom, Thomas Henry Burden is a graphic designer and illustra-tor, pretty famous with his retro style artworks for covers of pretty famous magazines such as Esquire, TimeOut and many more.

Therewillbeunicorns is the studio he practic-es and can also be considered as a digital platform for Burden to share his brilliant works. Graduated from the Camberwell College of Art, Graphic Design department, the artist spent early years of his career by developing freelance designs and full-time working as a senior designer in several agencies.

Thomas Henry Burden describes his art as the 60’s and 70’s National geographic meets 80’s and 90’s Argos catalogue toy section. There’s no doubt that the beauty of each

work leans on the genius skills of the artist, not only the attractive look of vintage road signs. Inspired by any kind of souvenir or peculiar toys that belongs to past eras, art of

Burden express the multi-referenced shuffling in the best way.

Mainly focusing on typography and digital rendered illustrations, colorful and bold posters of Burden are published in various range of mediums, from magazine covers to

shopping mall exterior façades with an impressive list of clients including Washington Post, UPS or Greenpeace. The artist is now living with his wife and cat in Chichester, United

Edward Burtynsky is a well-known Canadian photographer, born in 1955, Ontario. Burtynsky’s remarkable work took place in several collections of over 60 respected museums owing to his significant interpretations on industrial landscapes and ruins which brought him an international recognition.

“These images are meant as metaphors to the dilemma of our mod-ern existence; they search for a dialogue between attraction and repulsion, seduction and fear. We are drawn by desire - a chance at good living, yet we are consciously or unconsciously aware that the world is suffering for our success. Our dependence on nature to provide the materials for our consumption and our concern for the health of our planet sets us into an uneasy contradiction. For me, these images function as reflecting pools of our times.”

China, Burtynsky’s extensive photography project was published by Steidl in 2005 as 180 pages hardcover book. Images of vestige factory build-ings, slum shipyards and new zones built under industrialization period of

China represents an inversion story which succesfully expresses how the glory of wealth compounds with an unsettling sense of residuals.

Touring all over China between 2005 to 2008 and using diplomatic channels, Burtynsky accceses biggest industrial sturctures that is not seen

or photographed before and affords us a priviliged view through the social and economic transformation of the country.

Extreme impression of the mega structures has a great documentary value on architecture too. China’s biggest steel producer Bao Steel factory

complex is pictured from a breathtaking standpoint, recalling theatrical computer game plots, giving an unrealistic expression based upon the

spatial relations and complex joints.

Not only landscapes are captured but the interior working spaces also took their place in the collection, in order to express a whole process of industrial world. Involving also the workers, Burtynsky creates a spontaneous infinite pattern inside the biggest factory buildings of China.

Spread across a valley in Halsingland area, north-east Sweden, seven timber farmhouses has something

special inside. Surrounded by the Taiga forest landscape, these houses have richly decorated

interiors, a representation of the prosperity of the owner, based upon their social and economic status at the time.

Dating back to 18th and 19th centuries, Kristofers farm, Stene, Järvsö, Gästgivars farm, Vallstabyn, Pallars farm, Långhed, Jon-Lars farm, Lång-hed, Bortom åa farm, Gammelgården, Bommars farm, Letsbo, Ljusdal, and Erik-Anders farm are the exclusive examples among other timber farmhouses around the district. All representing the timberwork build-ing tradition of Middle Ages, however decorated rooms are the main

reason for them to be a world heritage site.

Rooms that are especially designed for occasional events and festivities clearly reflects the social status of the land-holders. Local or itinerant painters and artists were commissioned for the decorations of each

house, predominantly integrating popular art with Baroque and Rococo techniques within biblical subjects. Most decorated rooms were only

being used once or twice a year, staying empty and preserved through other time of the year.

The style can be regarded as a fusion of North-west European folk art with local architectural language and approach, repre-senting both the agricultural value of the region as well as an

artistic approach for special occasions and how it is blended with lifestyle and interiors of the dwellings.

Niemeyer claims that he is mostly influenced by Le Corbusier but pushed himself to form a different direction as a design approach. He was famous with his characteristic

abstract forms and curved concrete use in the end of 20th century, called as ‘the sculptor of monuments’ by international media. Niemeyer developed new possibilities of concrete use in architecture throughout his career and explored how to blend the material knowledge with influential aesthetic concerns in most of his projects. Besides his civic building projects in Brazil such as the Supreme Federal court or the National Congress of Brazil, Niemeyer gained a huge reputation with the collaborative work of United Nations Headquarters which he found a chance to work with Le Corbusier

and many other influential names.

New vibe of East London, located in Shoreditch, Beagle is offering finest cocktails and a gourmet menu for its visitors, representing the amazing historical references of the district with subtle, gently renovated interiors. Restaurant and a coffee shop during day time, the space is planned to function as a bar too, serving finest cock-tails of the district as well as a carefully prepared beer menu.

Settled on a wide space below railway arches, outdoor seating area at the entrance provides a welcoming look, clearly showcasing the restored brick interior walls through plate-glass windows. Designed in collaboration with local interior de-sign studio Fabled and C-O Workshop for the branding, Beagle restaurant reflects a perfect harmony, combining the quality of the kitchen with their elegant corporate identity and interior design.




Small coffee takeaway counter is located on the left entrance of the restaurant, serving outdoor sitting area which is mostly crowded on a sunny day. You can reach the bar

from the entrance on the opposite side, leading to a dining room and the open kitchen. Highly influenced by the railway essence of the district, existing arches and interior

walls are carefully restored and left exposed as it was before. Lighting fixtures are planned to have an industrial look, mounted on the walls with black steel joints with

raw details. Fabled Studio clearly avoided to use many colors for the entire project as it can be sensed through the natural and antique ambience of the restaurant.

members of ARKETIPO DESIGN.

Arketipo Design Interior Design Office was founded by Murad Denizalti, Müge Hansoy Kinaci and Esin Sözer in 1994. Since then, through 20 years, their

projects with a wide spectrum including hotels, spa, shopping centers, offices, residential buildingss has achieved great success. The firm carried out 80 project in their own country, as well as 90 projects completed in various countries such

as Dubai, Germany, Russia, Libya, Kazakhistan and Ukraine. Arketipo Interior Design’s practice now continues with the contribution of new partner Engin Urun

and a professional staff in their office based in Istanbul and also in Dubai.
