1. Describe Cow and Environmental parameters.
2. Use Feeds from Exercise 2.
3. Balance Ration using Hay, Straw and Grain – Supplied Dry Matter Intake to equal Recommended Dry
Matter Intake. Balance the Ration. Body weight gain should be about 0.25 lbs per day.
4. Check Ca:P Ratio at least 1.5:1, 2:1 is better. Meet minimum P requirements first.
5. Review the NDF as a % Body Weight. Use the F1 Key for additional Information.
6. From Top Menu Bar, select Edit Ration Notes (Edit). Add comments about this ration (Nitrates).
7. Feeding Info Tab – set # days on this Ration. Add $0.35 per day in the Yardage Box.
8. Save to Ration Summary – name the summary 1400 lb Cow Lactating.
9. Open Manage Summaries and Move them into the proper order.
10. Select Open Ration Summary Report, select View Ration Summary Report
11. Print the Ration Summary Report (Print to a PDF file)
12. Open Reports and Select Ration Report. Review the Note section
13. From the Top Menu Bar, select Edit Other Definition
14. Enter Nitrate in the Column Label, enter 2 decimals in output, check Use Other Information.
Scroll across to end of screen to view Nitrate Column. Add some values in the Nitrate Column.
15. Select the Feeding Info Tab.
16. Select Save to Ration Summary – select 1400 lb Cow Lactating in the drop down list.
17. Save the Ration File to the Hard Drive – File | Save | Ration Filename

Select VIT E 50000 from the Feed Table Change TDN, Protein and Cost for the Hay, Straw and Grain

Ration Notes can be saved with each Ration Summary
From the Top Menu Bar select Edit Ration Notes (Edit) Add comments such as Feeding Precautions, Instructions, etc.
Add a Note to read This Hay is High in Nitrates
- Enter # of Days on this Ration and # of Head - Check Home or Purchased - Adjust the Package Weight (weight of the bale, bag, block, etc.)
- Select the Type of Package from the Drop Down List
- A Waste Factor can be Included (5% to 25%)

Click Save to Ration Summary Button

Manage Ration Summaries
Practice moving the Ration Summary Files into the order of your choice. Right Click on any File to Move it Up or Down
