Create an Outing

(Press the "New Outing" button)

This brings up a page which you can use to set the course, the date of the outing,the outing name and the ratings and slopes for the tees being used.

There is some course information already in the database and it is expected some time inthe future that we will have access to the USGA Course Ratings and Slopes:

For this tutorial we are going to use Falcon Dunes Golf Course in Waddell, AZ.Select the State (If the state is not listed, use the XX entry at the end of the list.

Start to type the name of the course: Fa

There will be a pop-up that displays golf course names that begin with the letters type thatare in the database for this for the state selected.

Select the pop-up or finish typing the course name

If the ratings and slopes are available for this course they will be displayed.

Select the appropriate rating/slope for each of the tees that you will be using for thisouting by golfer status.

If you will be using just one set of tees, just select that tee.

Type in the Date of the outing. When you tab to the next field, you will notice that anouting name has been created. You can change that name to whatever you like.

If the tee names, ratings or slopes are incorrect you can change those values at this time.

When all fields are correct, press the "Start New Outing" button

After pressing the "Start New Outing" button the program will either ask you for creditcard information or to the main menu.

The Outing Functions Page

The Outing Functions page or the Main Menu, if there is only one active outing, showsthe functions that are available to be preformed on the selected outing. In some casesthere maybe text above the buttons which will display advisory information pertaining to thebutton. Those advisory messages are coded as follows:

Green or text preceeded with a "+":

Green text indicates that the function can be executed but not all of the information hasbeen provided. The user may have to inspect the results.

Yellow or text preceeded with a "-":Yellow text indicates why the function can not be executed.

Red or text preceeded with a "*":

Red lines indicate what must be fixed prior to executing the function or fixed by thefunction.

The next section of the page describes the formats that have been selected forthis outing followed by a section that explains the color coded messages.

Enter Golfers' Names

This tutorial will demonstrate entering golfers by using the "Input Golfers" option. Thisoption could be skipped and you could go to the "Tee Options" button.

There are two options for entering names.1. You type in the name, handicap index and status. The list will expand as you get to

the bottom of the list.

Name:The name field can any type of identifier for the golfer.

Hdcp Index:The Handicap Index for the golfer.

a. For example: 10, 5.3, or for a plus handicap, +2.1.

b. If the golfer does not have a handicap at this time, tab to the next field.c. If handicaps are not going to be used, tab over the field.

Status:The status is the status was referred to above as O, S, or L for Open, Senior orLadies. If all golfers have the same status, tab over the field, the default O willbe assigned when the data is saved.

2. The names of the golfers can be batch input to the page. The batch input filecan be any type of field delimited data. The "Help" link at the top of the pageshows examples of the format that is required.

Save the golfers names and handicaps by pressing the "Save Golfers" button at thebottom of the page.

This returns you to the outing functions menu. Note that the "List Handicaps" button is nowavailable.

Note: The Handicap Adjustments By Status has an "Unk" adjustment factor since we havenot yet assigned the flights.

Set the Tee Time Options

(Note: We have five tee times starting at 8:15 AM, on hole 1).

Size of the OutingSet the number of groups to the number of tee times that you will need.

Starting FormatThis outing will be using a 12 Hour clock, starting from Tee 1, starting at 8:15 AM with8 minutes between each tee time.

Sort Golfers within each teeYou can specify how you want the names displayed in the Tee Time listing.

When all of the options have been set, press "Save Tee Options" button. After you press thebutton, the options will be saved and a page will appear with blank tee times.

Tee Times

(Press "Assign Tee Times" Button)

Near the top of the page are boxes with help topic titles. You can see the help informationby mousing over the box.

A list of the golfers that have been entered can be accessed by pressing the"Press for Unassigned Golfers" link. As you assign names to tee times their nameswill be removed from this list.

The tee time boxes are setup as follows:a. Name

You can type in the name of the golfer or if you have previously entered a list ofgolfers, when you start to type the name a completion box will appear. Use themouse to select the name from the prompt.

b. OweThis is a box that can be used to indicate how much the golfer owes. It is not required.

c. HIThe golfer's handicap index. The handicap index will be used to make flight selection.It will be automatically filled in if the handicap index as been previously entered.

The status that was entered for each golfer on the Input Golfers page will be saved withthe tee time selections. If you enter a new golfer a pop-up will appear requesting thatthe status (Tee). You must enter O, S or L. (The cancel button is disabled).

When you have completed entering the tee times, press "Save Golfers".

This will return you to the page that lists the options for this outing.

Note: There are now golfers listed that do not have tee times. That is okay, their namescan stay in the database if there is a possibility that they maybe used at theactual outing. That will be covered in the section about "The Outing".

Note: Also note that the "List Tee Times" button is now enabled. Pressing the "List TeeTimes" button will display the Tee Times and allows selection of different tee time listsformats.

The "Make Html Tee Times File" generates a file that can be used to display the informationon a web page. The "Make Single Column Tee Times File" and the "Make CSV Tee TimesFile" buttons create files that can be used as input to a spreadsheet program. The"Tees/Owes File" is a text file that can be used to list the tees and the amount the golferowes. The "Alpha List of Players" button produces a web page as shown below.

Select Flight/Outing Options

(Press "Select/Flight Outing Options")

This function allows you to set up the flights and other outing options.

There are 5 pages of options in this function. You can select the options by clicking onthe appropriate Tab at the top of the page.

1. Flights

This page allows you to setup the number of flights for this outing. The informationat the top of the page indicates the number of golfers that are in each handicap statusand the number of golfers by status.

For this tutorial 20 golfers were assigned tee times so that is the number of golfersthat will be in the outing. The other four golfers are still in the database and can beused as add-ons at the outing.

This outing will have one flight. The flight maximum handicap for the first flight is setto 60.9, with the other flights maximum handicap disabled.

The box at the bottom indicates the number of golfers in each flight.

2. Primary Format

(Use the mouse to select the tab "Primary Format")Note: This package was originally designed for a golf club that held outings where thegolfers competed in flights using their individual handicaps and scores.

Another Note: For all types of competition, if you want the software to compute thewinners of ties, stableford points or handicapped Best Ball types of outings it is requiredthat you will enter the hole-by-hole scores. That will be explained in “The Outing”section.

For this tutorial the primary format will be individual ball using 100% handicap. Thedefault is set for this option, however the following will provide an overview of theother formats that are available.

Competition:The format can be either Individual or Partners.

Individual:The Scoring option is available for Individual competition. You can select eitherStrokes or Stableford.

You can select the Handicap Adjustment for this outing. 100% would be full handicaps,0% would indicate scratch.

If you select Stableford, you can specify the number of points to be awarded for scores.

Note: The following will be an explanation of the options that are available followed byexamples of outing formats.

Partners:Number of Partners:

This options has now been enabled to select the number of partners. After selectingthe Number of Partners, all of the Formats that would be available for the selectednumber of partners will be enabled.

Group by Tee Assignment:If “Yes” is selected, and the number of golfers that you have assigned to each teetime is the same the teams will be automatically selected.

Format:The type of Format can be selected. A brief description of each format is availableby mousing over the format name. For this example we have put the mouse over“Best-Ball”.

Handicap Adjustment:The handicap adjustment will be used to determine the percentage of thehandicap to be used to compute the net score. If partners are selected thepercentage is applied according to the handicaps of the partners. i.e.,the lowest handicap player will use the Player A adjustment, the next lowesthandicap player will use the Player B adjustment, etc.

Maximum difference of handicaps for partners:This option is not currently implemented.

Scramble - Average handicaps times Percent:This option provides an alternative method to compute a handicap to be usedfor scramble event. For this option the percentage specified is applied to theaverage of the handicaps, after handicap adjustment, for all partners on a team.

Stableford/Modified Stableford Points:This table will be used to award points for the net score on each hole.

Select Team Members:Use this box to select the team pairings. For some competitions you may wantto team individual golfers on multiple teams. Select the Allow golfers on multipleteams for that option.

To select the teams, mouse to the Players Area and click on a name. The golfer'sname will be moved to the Team Staging area and if the Allow golfers on multipleteams has not been selected the golfers name will be removed from the Playersarea.

Mouse over the player that will be a partner to the player in the Team Stagingarea, and click. When the number of players in the Staging area totals the numberof Partners that were selected the team will be moved to the Teams area.

Best-Ball, Two Partners Example

The screen shot below shows that two partners were selected for Best-Ball format usingstrokes for scoring using full handicaps. The teams have been selected at the bottom ofthe example.

Scramble, Four Partners

This screen shot shows four partners, group by tee assignment, scramble usingModified Stableford scoring. The handicap adjustments are applied by rankingthe players by handicap, from lowest to highest. The tee times were assignedas foursomes and there are four partners per team, the Group by Tee Assignmentoption was used to select the teams.

3. Secondary Format

(Use the mouse to select the tab "Secondary Format")This page is similar to the Primary Format page. Options available on this pagewill depend on options set in the Primary Format. For instance, if the PrimaryFormat was a scramble then only options that would modify the scramble formatwill be available.

To use this option set the "No" button at the top of the page.

For this outing the Secondary Format will be two partner best-ball using full handicapsand modified stableford scoring.

4. Other Contests

(Use the mouse to select the tab "Other Contests")This page provides the capability to select other contests that may be part of theouting.

Closest to the Pin Contests:Selecting "Yes" will provide a place holder to record the "Closest to the Pin" contests.results of the outing.

By Flight:The "Yes" selection is used for competitions where the "Closest to the Pin" contestsare assigned by flight. The "No" selection is used when all players can compete forall "Closest to the Pin" holes.

Number of Par 3 Contests:Identify the number of "Closest to the Pin" holes will be used.

Longest Drive Contests:Selecting "Yes" will provide a place holder to record the "Longest Drive" contests.

Number of Long Drive Contests:Identify the number of "Long Drive" Contests that will be used.

Special Contest Winners Can Also Place in Main Event:Some outings are designed to reward as many golfers as possible, so if this option isset to "No", golfers who have won either the "Closest to the Pin" or the "Longest

Drive"contests will be eliminated from the computation used to determine the individualflight winner.

Skins:This option provides for the program to identify the golfer who has uniquely scored thelowest scratch and/or net score on a hole. Both scratch and net may be selected.

For this tutorial, there will be four closest to the pin contests, one long drive contest,the golfer can place in the main event and both scratch and net skins will be computed.

5. Pars and Handicaps

(Use the mouse to select the tab "Pars and Handicaps")The "Pars and Handicaps" page is available to record the pars and handicaps forthe tees that will be used for this outing.

Using the score card fill in the pars and handicaps for the tees that will be used. The firsttwo lines are to be used for the Open and Seniors. The bottom two lines for the Ladies.

In order to save all of options that have been set, press the "Save All Options" button. The"Save All Options" button could have been pressed at anytime during the setting of theoptions and by pressing the "Select Flight/Outing Options" button returns to these pages.Whenever the Flights options are changed and saved, a page showing the flights will bedisplayed.

Returning to the Outing Functions or Menu is accomplished by pressing the appropriatebutton.

The Alphabetical list will display the golfers in alphabetical order, the Tee Time listwill group the golfers by tee times.

The top part of the page

This is the page that can be saved off-line to be filled in at the course. The linkat the top of the page describes the procedures to follow to save the page, how to saveand restore the fields of data and how to reconnect backup to the Server when the onlinecapability is again available.

The Pars and Handicaps for the Open/Seniors and Ladies tees so that they can be filled inat the course or corrections can be made if necessary.

Under the Pars and Handicaps are some reminders on how to handle some situations thatmay occur.

Entering Scores

Now we get to the main purpose of the page. The place to fill in the scores, handicaps

and other information. (Mousing over the headings, displays a pop-up box which explains

the purpose of the field).

Name:

This the name of the golfer.

HxH:

A symbol to select a pop-up to enter hole-by-hole scores. The symbol will turn

green when the hole-by-hole scores are entered.

Score:

The gross score for the golfer.

HI:

The golfers handicap index. If it had not been previously assigned this will be an

input box for the handicap index to be entered. When the handicap index is entered,

the CH and AH fields will be automatically calculated.

CH:

The golfers course handicap. If the handicap index was not available, this will be

an input box to fill in the course handicap.

FLt:

The golfers flight.

ST:

The golfers status, O, S or L.

AH:

The golfers adjusted handicap. If the handicap index was not available, this will be

an input box to fill in the adjusted handicap.

Order:

This field is an alternative way of ordering tied golfers.

The middle part of the page

New Signups

The top part of this section is for adding new signups or to change the handicap or

the status for a golfer listed in the top section. The headings have the same meanings

as the top section. When you fill in a handicap index for the golfer the other handicap

fields and the status will be computed. The status field will default to O, but if you

change that, the handicaps will be adjusted as necessary.

Closest to the Pin and Long Drive

In the "Select Flights/Outing Options" page for this tutorial, the Closest to the Pin for four

holes and the Longest Drive competition for one hole was selected. This section provides

the capability to fill in the winners of those competitions.

Results

The "Show Results" button is used to generate a new browser window that will display

the results of the competition. Of course the scores will have to have been filled in.

Save

The "Save" button is used when you are back online to save the data to the server.

The next part of the page:

Team Assignment

The top part of this example provides the capability to change the teams if a team

option was selected. For this tutorial a two partner best-ball competition was

selected and the team pairings was identified. If a new golfer had been added to the

New Signups section above, their name would now appear in the Players column.

Those names could then be paired with another golfer. Pairings can be changed by

double clicking on a team name.

Tee Ratings and Slopes

The table at the bottom of this example shows the tees that were picked for the

The "All Members Information" section lists all of the golfers that have been entered forthis outing in alphabetical order. This list can be used as a reference if a golfer needs tobe entered in the "New Signups" section.

Save and Restore

The "Save and Restore" section is used to save and restore the data that has been

typed into the form. As a brief explanation:

To Save the Form Data:

Press the "Dump Values for Save Button", which will populate the text area with

tagged data identifying all of the form data that has been entered .

Pressing the "Highlight All" button will cause all of the data in the area to behighlighted.

Select the highlighted area for copy, Edit->Copy

Open a text editor like Word Pad and paste the data into the editor.

Save the data in a directory and filename that you will remember.

To restore the data:

Open the file that was saved above.

Highlight and copy all of the data.

Paste the data into the area above.

Press "Input Saved Values" button. All of the form data will be restored into the form.
