1.Who first talked about Shangri-la?

2.What does the word Shangri-la mean?

James Hilton, a British writer, wrote the novel Lost Horizon in 1933.

In the Tibetan language, it means the sun and the moon in one’s heart. Today it has become a common English word, meaning heaven on earth.

3.Where is Shangri-la?

4.How can you get there?

It is in the southwest of China, 659 kilometers away from Kunming.

We can start in the city of Dali and drive northwards along the Yunnan-Tibet Highway until we reach there. We can also go there by plane for there are regular flights between Zhongdian and Yunnan.

5.Try to find out the sentences used to describe the beauty of Shangri-la.• …a beautiful kingdom where three rivers joined together, snow-capped mountains reached to the sky, and fields of long grass covered the earth.

• …form a beautiful picture that will make any viewers speechless.

• Lakes, surrounded by vast grasslands, look like jewels. Sheep, cows and horses feed freely on the green grass and the forests around are home to lots of birds and animals.
