Newsletter

Dear Members,

Sweet Spring is finally here! Those warm days made new plants pop out of

the earth and buds appear on bushes and trees. March does bring surprises in

the weather and so will April. But no surprise that we found out new infor-

mation about T.C. Steele when Tina Jernigan talked about him on our campus

and living in Brown County in "The House of the Singing Winds". Our Club

is a proud owner of several of his beautiful landscapes. I know you are aware

of the large painting by T.C. in the Presidents Room, but can you find the

others? Be sure and check out our other rooms for his paintings!

Professor Paul Helmke also gave us some surprising information about gun

control. Were you surprised to find out he was a former Mayor of Fort Wayne

and Chairman of the Brady Campaign to prevent gun violence?

What fun we had with Carla Willis as she taught us to Line Dance! We tried

to get our feet to cooperate before we danced up to the Faculty Room to

celebrate St. Patrick's Day. We stuffed

ourselves with Irish Stew, soda bread, and

plenty of side dishes and deserts! After

dinner, we watched the River Dancers do

their extraordinary dancing from a DVD

that showed us the best of their

performances from around the world.

Coming this month is our Annual Meeting

on April 10th. We'll elect new Officers for

our Club's Board, meet our Scholarship

recipients, and much more! Don't miss this

opportunity to find out what we've done

and where we are going.

Daisy’s are April’s birth flower. They have several mean-ings which include, cheerfulness, innocence, purity and beauty. This was also Queen Victoria’s favorite flower. They were discovered in South Africa by Scotsman Rich-ard Jameson and have been found on stone carvings as far back as 3000 BC. Diamonds are the birthstone for April. In addition to being a symbol of everlasting love, they were once thought to bring courage.

SPRING - LOW GAP - SATURDAY, APRIL 18TH

In the 1991 edition of Nature Walks in Southern Indiana, Alan McPherson describes Low Gap Trail as a

downs, and aching muscles. For those wanting to stretch themselves, while exploring the backcountry.

Leave Time: 7:30 a.m. Carpool from 1505 E. Richland Drive to Morgan Monroe State Forest.
