At the annual meeting we voted on our Community
Covenant. This has been part of the Healthy Start
process. One of our goals is to grow in deeper
relationship with God and with each other through
communication. The beginning statement of the
covenant says “As members of the Christian community of Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer in Fort Morgan we commit, with the help of God to relate to each other through Christ, and thus hold ourselves and each other to;” 12 things. As I
stated last month, each month I will focus on one
of the 12 things - on what it means and how God
and our call as Christians help us live into this
covenant that we have made with God and with
each other.
Last month I spoke on the first point in the
covenant to “Listen to each other.” This month as
we begin the Lenten Journey that brings us to the
cross where we are called to self-reflection,
repentance and love, our second point in our
covenant is that: We commit, with the help of
God, to relate to each other through Christ, and thus hold each other to: 2. Respect the
privacy of those who confide. “A gossip goes about telling secrets, but one who is trustworthy in spirit keeps a confidence.” Proverbs 11:13
Opening up to our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ is not an easy thing to do, it’s a sign of
trust and love. On the other side of that: when someone opens up to you — they are trusting
you, they are letting you in and when someone lets you in—respecting their privacy and not
sharing without permission is so important, it shows that you love them just the way they are.

“The Road Less Traveled” by Scott Peck has a discussion of love and his approach to spirit-
uality. It gives insight into: 1) discipline such as problem solving and time; 2) love – falling in love
and the risk of loss, commitment, courage, and generosity; 3) growth and religion – world views
of religion; 4) grace – the miracle of health and the welcoming of grace. This book can show you
how to embrace and achieve reality and fullness in your life.
“The Gentle Rebel” – With a bit of history of the American Revolution, Winslow carries the
banner of his family, heritage, faith, and courage. The author spent 10 years as a pastor, then
became a professor of English, and later, a writer of 15 published novels.
Thanks to Loretta Price, who donated a set of beautiful books A to Z for children which are
called “My First Steps to Reading.”
Thanks to Margie Dorn for the children’s books on the north shelves where all the children’s
books can be found. Also, we have a new look for the church history posters, which are located
in the hallway, and in new plastic enclosures. They are more attractive and readable, so thank
you, Margie Dorn and Barbara Mai, for your work that made it possible.

Community Covenant
As members of the Christian community of Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer in Fort Morgan we commit,
with the help of God, to relate to each other through Christ, and thus hold ourselves and each other to:
1. Listen to each other. “Let everyone be quick to listen, slow to speak…” James 1:19. Dietrich
Bonhoeffer stated: “The first service that one owes to others in the fellowship consists of listening to
them.” Life Together p. 97
2. Respect the privacy of those who confide. “A gossip goes about telling secrets, but one who is trust-
worthy in spirit keeps a confidence.” Proverbs 11:13
3. Challenge each other with the truth. Be willing to confront when it is important. “Rather speaking
the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, from whom
the whole body, joined and knit together by every ligament with which it is equipped, as each part is
working properly, promotes the body’s growth in building itself up in love.” Ephesians 4:15-16
4. Deal with people directly. Don’t complain to others. “If another member of the church sins against
you, go and point out the fault when the two of you are alone” Matthew 18:15. If someone com-
plains to you about another member, help that person follow this principle.
5. Strengthen each other. “[Speak] only what is useful for building up … so that your words may give
grace to those who hear” Ephesians 4:29. “The test of true … Christian community is that it serves
to make the individual free, strong and mature,” not “weak and dependent.” Bonhoeffer, p. 88
6. Be gentle with one another. “My friends, if anyone is detected in a transgression, you who have
received the Spirit should restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness.” Galatians 6:1
7. Do not speak ill of others in the fellowship. “Beloved, do not grumble against one another so that
you may not be judged. See, the Judge is standing at the doors!” James 5:9
8. Do not judge each other. “Therefore you have no excuse, whoever you are, when you judge others;
for in passing judgment on another you condemn yourself, because you, the judge, are doing the
very same things.” Romans 2:1
9. Pray for one another. “Therefore confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another, so that
you may be healed. The prayer of the righteous is powerful and effective.” James 5:16
10. Confess your sins to one another. James 5:16
11. Forgive one another. “Forgive, and you will be forgiven; give and it will be given to you.”
Luke 6:37b-38a
12. Freely participate in the Body of Christ according to your gifts and talents. “As you go, proclaim
the good news, ‘The kingdom of heaven has come near.’” Matthew 10:7

Update - Last month at the Congregation Council meeting we voted to move forward with the Praises and
Pinches Mutual Ministry model. We are looking for Mutual Ministry team members: 6 MEMBERS including
pastor (3 one year terms and 3 two year terms). Each month the Mutual Ministry team will meet and look at the
praises and pinches from the past month and respond to all the pinches, and lift up all the praises to be sub-
mitted in the next newsletter. If you are interested please contact Pastor Kaila or a member of the Congre-
gation Council.
PRAISES AND PINCHES IN FEBRUARY: We received praises for our bulletins and newsletters being
awesome! We received a pinch asking if we could provide printed copies of the lessons and gospel, like we did
with the Celebrate inserts. After meeting with the Worship and Music Committee, we decided that each Sunday
we will have 5-10 copies available in the narthex for people to take with them if they want.
Thanks to everyone for sharing your joys and concerns, your praises and pinches, as we seek to serve our Lord
as faithfully as we possibly can together!
