OUR MISSION STATEMENT: The mission of the American Legion Auxiliary is to serve veterans, their families and their communities. The meeting of the Auxiliary Unit 136 was called to order by President, Tracy Kinnick at 7:00 p.m. with 21 members present, prayer by Joanna Ehrlich-Brown followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and the Preamble. Welcome Guest/New Member: Welcome to our newest member, Vicky Dudley. Minutes: July Minutes were approved as published. Treasurer’s report: Report was read by Nancy Johnson and submitted for audit. Chaplain’s report: Joanna Ehrlich-Brown [email protected] . Cards were sent to Deb Herndon; Jennifer Kitchens and Elsie Jenkins. Please keep Elsie Jenkins in your prayers, since she will be going in for surgery. Children and Youth/JR Activities: No report this month. Historian: Debbie Crawford reported for Carolyn Kitchens and showed the Historian Auxiliary Scrap Book. The meeting of the Auxiliary Unit 136 was called to order by President, Tracy Kinnick at 7:00 p.m. with 21 members present, prayer by Joanna Ehrlich-Brown followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and the Preamble.

Welcome Guest/New Member: Welcome to our newest member, Vicky Dudley.

Minutes: July Minutes were approved as published.

Treasurer’s report: Report was read by Nancy Johnson and submitted for audit.

Chaplain’s report: Joanna Ehrlich-Brown [email protected]. Cards were sent to Deb Herndon; Jennifer Kitchens and Elsie Jenkins. Please keep Elsie Jenkins in your prayers, since she will be going in for surgery.

VA&R Report: Sheryl Carpenter reported that on September 1st, there will be ribbon cutting ceremony at the VA to open the new building for Patient Care.

Volunteers are needed for the following –

1. Ambassador Program – target in-patent only. One (1) room per volunteer – welcome package; solve complaints;

2. Veteran Advisory Council – made up one management (includes nurses, doctors, chaplain, VSO, veterans, volunteers, veteran spouses) to provide advice to council;

3. Kiose – map tells when and where appointments are – Veterans need help to operate and should be working October 1st ;

4. Deliver Food – pick up at Canteen and deliver to staff (nurses) who cannot get off the floor due to patient load and also deliver to families in TLC and ICU; and

5. Shuttle Bus – to pick up and deliver patients from parking lots to buildings where their appointments are and take them back to their vehicle in the parking lots.

The VA will be adding a Bereavement Room access from elevators close to new patient care and also adding several Reflection Rooms for those of non-denominational faiths.

Fundraisers: Debbie Crawford wants to send out thanks to Jean Horstman, Monica McDaniel, Beth Ruesser, Pat Johnston, Barbara Giovanni, Carolyn Kitchens and Connie Evans for all their help on the George Shaw retirement party. Everything turned out great and was greatly appreciated

Membership report: Sheryl Carpenter reported that the year 2017 ended with 125 members.

The new year of 2018 starts out with the following: Paid Up For Life (PUFLs) of 14; Seniors 6; Juniors 3, with a total of 23 members, so far.

Volunteer Hours Report: Carol Benson reported for May 2017, total volunteer hours at 5,251, donations were $741.00, flag display hours were 4828 and the total service hours were 423 with mileage at 1,239 and 3 members turned in coupons for a total of $1,851.80. The total number of members reporting this month was 12.

Carol Benson reported for June 2017, total volunteer hours at 5,192, donations were $110.00, flag display hours were 4,940 and the total service hours were 252 with mileage at 215 and 3 members turned in coupons for a total of $991.00. The total number of members reporting this month was 11.

Communications: No Report.

Poppies: Connie Evans gave the report that as of August 7, 2017, Poppy proceeds total was $518.47 and ½ of the proceeds in the amount of $259.23 were sent to the Department of Kansas.

New Business: Sunflower News Letter, sign up with Tracy Kinnick to have it e-mailed or snail mailed to you at a cost of $5.00.

Jr. Auxiliary Rose Eisenhower – Tracy Kinnick made motion for Jr. Auxiliary to donate $10.00 for a rose to the Eisenhower Pilgrimage and the money to be taken out of the general funds; 2nd by Beth Reusser; motion passed.

Jr. Auxiliary Patch Purchase – Tracy Kinnick made motion for $3.95 to purchase the Auxiliary patch from the American Legion Riders for Camryn Carlson’s sash; 2nd by Vicki Kalous; motion passed.

New Member Installation given for Vicky Dudley; Camryn Carlson and Sam Caywood.

Camryn Carlson has won another award certificate signed by the national president and was presented to her.

Joanna Ehrlich-Brown presented “Be An Angel”. Joanna also challenged every Auxiliary member to be an Angel and bring back their reports on how they were an Angel to someone at the September meeting.

Old Business: Motion for donation to Legacy Run of $100.00 made by Debbie Crawford and 2nd by Carol Benson; Vote taken as follows: Yes 7; No 12; Abstain 0 --- Motion did not pass.
