Hace veinte años, Hombre Naturaleza nació de la inquietud

por tomar acción a favor del cuidado y preservación del medio ambiente. Su fundador

Emmanuel Acha, uno de los artistas mexicanos más reconocidos a nivel internacional, junto con su esposa Mercedes

Alemán, han compartido una filosofía de vida basada en el respeto y preocupación por la relación del ser humano con su entorno natural.

Coherente con dicho propósito, fundaron la asociación civil que desde hace dos décadas ha impulsado una cultura ambiental a través de diversos proyectos. Se trabaja bajo el principio de que la educación ambiental es fundamental para elevar los niveles de conciencia y para impulsar acciones de respeto a la convivencia con la naturaleza.

Twenty years ago, Hombre Naturaleza surges from the concern to take action in caring and preserving the environment. Its founder Emmanuel Acha, one of the most recognized Mexican artists internationally, and his wife Mercedes Aleman, have shared a philosophy based on the respect and preoccupation for the relationship between humans and their natural surrounding.

Coherently with such purpose, they founded the civil association that for two decades has supported an environmental culture through diverse projects. The work is done under the principle that environmental education is fundamental to elevate the consciousness levels to impulse actions that give back to the planet, through respect and coexistence with nature.

Hoy somos siete mil millones de personas en el mundo y, según las previsiones, en 2050 seremos nueve mil millones. De todo el alimento que se produce en el planeta, es desperdiciado entre el 30 y el 40%. Los recursos naturales y los avances tecnológicos no serán suficientes para alimentarnos todos si es que no logramos sensibilizar a toda la población humana y en cada rincón del planeta.

La 7ma Edición de ECOFILM, Alimentación Sustentable, tuvo por objetivo informar sobre un necesario cambio de hábitos de consumo alimentario. Buscamos generar un impacto ambiental positivo a partir de la decisión de optar por nuevos modelos de producción y consumo.

Logramos que este año el cine y la gastronomía se fundieran sin condiciones para ofrecer al espectador aromas y sabores de todos los lugares y de todos los momentos de la historia. Nuestros directores nos invitaron a compartir su plato, buscando abrir el apetito por un mundo sano. Deseo y espero que cada vez existan más espectadores que transformen la forma de ver el mundo y los alimentos en sus mesas. Pero sobre todo, que las próximas generaciones puedan disfrutar un mundo en equilibrio.

FEED THE WORLD AND TAKE CARE OF THE PLANET

Today we are seven billion people in the world and, according to the prognoses, in 2050 we will be nine billion. Of all the food that is produced on the planet, it is wasted between 30 and 40%. Natural resources and technological advances will not be enough to feed us all if we fail to sensitize the entire human population and in every corner of the planet.

The 7th Edition of ECOFILM, Sustainable Food, aimed to inform about a necessary change in eating habits. We seek to generate a positive environmental impact from the decision to opt for new models of production and consumption.

We achieved that this year the cinema and the gastronomy merged without conditions to offer aromas and flavors of all the places and of all the moments of history. Our directors invited us to share their plate, seeking to open an appetite for a healthy world. I hope that there will be more and more spectators who transform the way they see the world and the food on their tables. But above all, that the next generations can enjoy a world in balance.

Gracias, a sus organizadores por hacernos parte de esta historia. La Secretaría del Medio Ambiente y Recursos Naturales (SEMARNAT) ha participado con el festival desde 2013, cuando la convocatoria había recibido sólo 800 cortometrajes, este año fueron más de dos mil 100.

Hemos crecido juntos, hemos visto cortos sobre biodiversidad terrestre, residuos sólidos, cambio climático, conservación y sustentabilidad y, este año, sobre alimentación sustentable.

Una felicitación a todos los realizadores, los que mandaron su propuesta, los que fueron elegidos en la selección oficial y, por supuesto, a los ganadores de este año.

Elegir el mejor corto, como jurado, fue una tarea difícil. Hay propuestas atractivas visualmente, otras de muy buen contenido e incluso algunas con ideas innovadoras para tratar la alimentación sustentable.

La SEMARNAT está convencida de que la mejor forma de procurar al medio ambiente es involucrando a la mayor cantidad de gente, de encontrar alianzas, con diversos sectores como el turismo o el cine.

Ecofilm es nuestro aliado. Juntos promovemos un mensaje en favor del medio ambiente. Recientemente iniciamos en Facebook una aventura conjunta llamada Cinema Ambiental, en la que cada miércoles transmitimos material del festival, logrando un alcance de más de 23 mil personas.

Enhorabuena por siete años de Ecofilm, que sean muchos más y que los vivamos con muchos más aliados en favor del medio ambiente.

Seven years of Ecofilm. An example of how the festival has consolidated itself among the cinematographic community and the environmentalists as well. Seven years of demonstrating that filmmaking is an innovative channel to deliver the message of conservation and protection towards our natural patrimony.

We thank, its organizers for inviting us to be part of this story. The Secretary of the Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat) has participated with the festival since 2013, when the call had only received 800 shortfilms, this year they were more than two thousand one hundred.

We have grown together, we have seen shortfilms about earth biodiversity, solid residues, climate change, conservation and sustainability and, this year, about sustainable food.

Congratulations to all the makers, to those who sent their proposals, to the ones who were chosen for the official selection and, naturally, to the winners of this year.

To select the best shortfilm, as a member of the jury, it was a difficult task. There are visually attractive proposals, there are others with great content and even some with innovative ideas to address sustainable eating.

Semarnat is convinced that the best form to take care of the environment is by involving the highest amount of people, to find alliances, with diverse sectors such as the tourism industry or filmmaking.

Ecofilm is our ally. Together we promote a message in pro of the environment. Recently we ignited a joint adventure on Facebook called Environmental Cinema, where each Wednesday we screen material from the festival, achieving a coverage of more than 23 thousand people.

Congratulations for seven years of Ecofilm, may they be many more and may we experience them with many more allies in favor of the environment.

El fomento y apoyo a la producción y el consumo de alimentos, mediante el debido reforzamiento de las cadenas de valor, a través de tecnologías sostenibles, son instrumentos imprescindibles para garantizar la disponibilidad y acceso de la población a alimentos sanos y nutritivos a precios accesibles.

El respeto al medio ambiente y la protección a nuestra rica biodiversidad no sólo garantizan que nuestros campos tendrán las mejores condiciones competitivas, sino que continuarán siendo dignos ejemplos de nuestro decidido empeño en mejorar los ecosistemas globales.

La interdependencia de la capacidad alimentaria y la protección de la biodiversidad es una cuestión esencial para mitigar el cambio climático. La atención del aspecto ambiental en la producción de alimentos es una responsabilidad que trasciende fronteras y nos convoca a todos los gobiernos y sociedades a proteger la biodiversidad y mantener los diversos ecosistemas de nuestro planeta.

Es por eso que saludamos el papel de Ecofilm de contribuir a generar conciencia en todos nosotros sobre la necesidad de preservar el medio ambiente, mediante la exhibición de cortometrajes centrados en uno de los temas nodales del mundo contemporáneo, relativos a una dieta balanceada y sustentable para todos los seres humanos.

The challenge of ending hunger is a universal trial we face daily. We all have the obligation of doing it adhering to sustainability principles, equality, social fairness, and inclusivity. The public politics, therefore, should create measures that guarantee a better future and place to live in for the following generations, by respecting these principles.

The encouragement and support of the production and the consumption of foods, with the proper reinforcement of the value chains, through sustainable technologies, is indispensable to guarantee the people’s availability and access to healthy and nutritious food at affordable prices.

The respect to the environment and the protection to our rich biodiversity not only guarantees our fields will have better competitive conditions, but will continue being dignifying examples of our decided effort to improve the global ecosystems.

The reciprocity between the feeding capacity and the protection to the biodiversity is an essential matter to mitigate climate change. The attention to the environmental part in the food production is a responsibility that transcends frontiers and calls all governments and societies to protect the biodiversity and maintain the diverse ecosystems of our planet.

Thereof we recognize Ecofilm’s role in contributing to generate awareness in all of us about the need to preserve our environment, thought the screening of short films focused in one of the central topics in the contemporary world, relating to a balanced and sustainable diet for all human beings.

El reto de erradicar el hambre es un desafío universal al que nos enfrentamos diariamente. Todos tenemos la obliga-ción de hacerlo apegándonos a principios de sustentabilidad, igualdad, equidad social, haciéndolo incluyentemente. Las políticas públicas, por tanto, deberán instrumentar medidas que garanticen un mejor futuro y lugar donde vivir a las siguientes generaciones, respetando estos principios.

Para contribuir y abonar a este esfuerzo, en Fundación FEMSA, el brazo social de nuestra compañía, desarrollamos programas y planes que giran en torno a la alimentación y nutrición bajo el firme objetivo de potenciar el desarrollo social de las comunidades. Ejemplo de ello es nuestro trabajo con la Red de Banco de Alimentos de México, en su programa de Educación Nutricional, que está enfocado en la enseñanza sobre cómo utilizar los alimentos de una forma mucho más saludable.

Estamos convencidos de que no basta generar valor económico, sino que resulta indispensable que, a la par de esto, se genere un valor social y ambiental para todas las comunidades con las que trabajamos. Por ello contamos con un marco estratégico de sostenibilidad que orienta todas nuestras operaciones bajo tres rubros: el desarrollo profesional de nuestra gente, la reducción al máximo del impacto ambiental que genera nuestra operación y, finalmente, el desarrollo de nuestras comunidades para encaminarlas hacia el desarrollo sustentable.

Felicito a todos los que participaron en esta edición de ECOFILM. Recurrir al lenguaje cinematográfico para que a través de su vitalidad se mire al pasado, se retrate nuestro presente, y se busque un futuro es, sin duda, una acción sumamente significativa. Por ello aplaudimos y reconocemos a todos los realizadores, cuyas obras construyen conocimiento desde la reflexión y el intercambio, al mismo tiempo que ofrecen respuestas a los retos que enfrentamos como sociedad.

For FEMSA it is a great honor to be part of ECOFILM Festival, which in its 2017 edition invited us to reflect and talk in regard to the sustainable food topic. For us, this means talking about conscious ways of eating that incorporate social and environmental variables within all its process: from the planting procedures, through the usage of natural resources, to preparing the food, its consumption and the disposal of the residues.

To contribute and to add to this effort, in FEMSA Foundation, the social branch of our company, we develop programs and plans that revolve around eating and nutrition, under the firm objective of potentiating the social development in the communities. Clear example is our work with the Network of Food Banks of México, with their program of Nutritional Education, which is focused in teaching how to use foods in a much healthier manner.

We are convinced it is not enough to generate a financial value, more so it is imperative that, paired to this, a social and environmental value is generated for all the communities we work with. Therefore, we have a strategic frame of sustainability which guides all our operations under three categories: the professional development of our people, the maximum reduction of the environmental impact that our operation generates and, finally, the development of our communities to lead them towards a sustainable development.

I congratulate all of those who participated in this ECOFILM edition. To seek aid from the cinematographic language so through its vitality we look at the past, our present is portrayed, and a future is reach for, with no doubt is a highly significant action. Reason why we commend and recognize all the creators, who’s film pieces build knowledge from reflecting and exchanging, as well as simultaneously offering answers to the challenges we face as a society.

Para FEMSA es un enorme honor ser partícipe de ECOFILM Festival, que en su edición 2017 nos invitó a reflexionar y dialogar en torno al tema de la alimentación sustentable. Para nosotros, esto significa hablar de una alimentación consciente que incorpore variables sociales y ambientales en todo el proceso: desde los procedimientos de siembra, pasando por el uso de recursos naturales, hasta la preparación de los alimentos, su consumo y la disposición final de los residuos.

Esa ha sido la labor del ECOFILM Festival durante 7 años, sensibilizar a la sociedad sobre la problemática ambiental, promoviendo la producción audiovisual y la cultura ecológica.

Este año no fue la excepción, el festival con su tema “Alimentación Sustentable”, reunió propuestas que despertaron conciencias, vimos la inspiración de una nueva generación de realizadores, artistas y animadores tanto nacionales como extranjeros, que desbordaron talento y nos sorprendieron con piezas novedosas.

Es para mí un gran honor presidir un jurado lleno de gente reconocida por su trayectoria, con gran inteligencia y sensibilidad para evaluar el trabajo participante. Muchas gracias a todos ellos por su compromiso y dedicación.

Espero que la magia del ECOFILM Festival; creado por Hombre Naturaleza, Emmanuel y Mercedes Alemán, dure y perdure para siempre, que siga animando a cada vez más personas a tener mayor conciencia acerca de los graves problemas que enfrentamos para tomar ese gran paso de ser meros espectadores y convertirse en agentes del cambio en defensa de nuestro hogar, nuestro planeta.

Cinema has the ability to make us think, to become aware, to motivate us to act. It creates such powerful images, that they remain engraved in our soul and move our reason. That has been the work of the ECOFILM Festival for 7 years, to raise society’s awareness on environmental issues, while promoting audiovisual production and ecological culture. This year was no exception, with its “Sustainable Food” theme, the festival gathered proposals that awoke awareness. We saw the inspiration of a new generation of filmmakers, artists and animators, both national and foreign, who radiated talent and surprised us with innovating pieces. It was a great honor for me to preside over a jury full of people known for their career, with great intelligence and sensitivity to evaluate the work involved. Thank you very much to all of them for their commitment and dedication. I hope the magic of the ECOFILM Festival, created by Hombre Naturaleza, Emmanuel and Mercedes Alemán, lives on and endures forever. Director, guionista y productor mexicano con estudios en Ciencias de la Comunicación, Cine, Ciencias Políticas y Sociales, Dramaturgia, Postproducción y Música. Inició su carrera profesional a los 22 años, tras haber realizado el mediometraje de ficción política “Bienestar para tu familia”.

Ha realizado distintos documentales para la cadena Discovery Channel. Ha conseguido como productor, más de 20 millones de dólares para el financiamiento de todos sus guiones en los últimos 7 años. En 2005, colaboró como creativo para Al filo de la ley, primer serie dramática latina realizada bajo los mismos estándares de estructura, formato y calidad de las series norteamericanas.

Entre su amplia trayectoria, se destacan obras como: La Milagrosa, 2008, película colombiana que logró presencia en más de 60 festivales internacionales. El Quinto Mandamiento, 2010. Labios Rojos, 2011. Cinco de mayo: La Batalla, 2013, obra de presencia internacional que contó con el presupuesto más alto de la historia del cine mexicano, de 9 millones de dólares. Aquí no pasa nada, 2014, galardonado con la Diosa de Plata como mejor Cortometraje Mexicano del año. El Tamaño Sí Importa, 2016 y Jesús de Nazareth, producción internacional que se que se estrenó en 2017. Actualmente, Rafa Lara se encuentra desarrollando una película de terror, una bélica-histórica y una adaptación literaria.

As a producer he has been able to gather more than 20 million dollars for the financing of all his screen writings in the past 7 years. In 2005, he collaborated as a creative link for Al filo de la ley, first latin drama series developed under the same structures, format and quality standards as american series.

Among his ample trajectory, there are highlighted films such as: La Milagrosa, 2008, a Colombian film that achieved presence in more than 60 international festivals. El Quinto Mandamiento, 2010. A lo largo de su carrera ha sido miembro de distintos jurados en áreas de medios y artes visuales, entre otros, del FONCA, el Centro Universitario de Estudios Cinematográficos, el Fideicomiso para la Cultura México-Estados Unidos, de Estímulos a creadores cinematográficos del Instituto Mexicano de Cinematografía. También ha sido miembro del Comité de Expertos del Espacio Audiovisual Hispano-Mexicano, Consejera de la Asociación de Televisión Educativa Iberoamericana, Presidente del capítulo México de esta Asociación y miembro del Comité Ejecutivo de la Federación Internacional de Archivos Fílmicos.

Ha sido Coordinadora del Centro de Investigaciones Documentales de la Facultad de Ciencias Políticas y Sociales de la UNAM, Directora de Cinematografía y Cineteca Nacional de México, así como titular de la Dirección General de Televisión Universitaria de la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (TVUNAM) y Directora de Promoción Cultural Cinematográfica del Instituto Mexicano de Cinematografía (IMCINE).

Through the length of her career she has been a member of diverse juries in areas of media and visual arts, among others, from the FONCA, the University Center of Cinematography Studies, the México-United States Culture Fund and involved in acquiring grants for film creators of the Mexican Institute of Cinematography. She has also been a member of the Expertise Committee of the Hispanic-Mexican Audiovisual Space, Counselor of the Iberoamerican Educative Television Association, President of the Mexican chapter in this Association and a member of the Executive Committee of the International Federation of Film Files.

She also has been the Coordinator of the Documentary Research Center from the Politics and Social Sciences Faculty of the UNAM, Director of Cinematography and the National Film Archives of México, as well as the General Director of the Television University from the National Autonomous University of México (TVUNAM) and Director of Cinematographic Cultural Promotion of the Mexican Institute of Cinematography (IMCINE).

Guionista y director de cine mexicano especializado en el género de ciencia ficción y terror. Es Co-fundador de la casa productora Red Elephant Films y Autocinema Coyote.

Entre su filmografía previa se encuentran 9 cortometrajes con importantes reconocimientos en festivales nacionales e internacionales. Su primer largometraje, El Incidente (2014), se estrenó en Fantastic Fest en Austin, Texas y Sitges en Cataluña, España, y fue proyectado en Selección Oficial en más de 45 festivales internacionales. LLevándose más de 16 premios y el respaldado de positivas reseñas de cineastas reconocidos a nivel mundial como Joe Dante y Guillermo del Toro. Posteriormente realizó su segunda película Los Parecidos (2015), estrenada en Fantastic Fest y luego Sitges, donde obtuvo la mención a mejor Película Latinoamericana, el Premio de la Prensa en Mórbido, entre otros. Ambas obras han aterrizado en Netflix con distribución mundial. En 2016 se integró a Bron Studios, el estudio de cine de mayor renombre en Canadá, para dirigir su tercera película (y primer obra en inglés) Parallel. Actualmente la cinta se encuentra en postproducción para un estreno en la segunda mitad de este año.

Among his previous filmography we find 9 shortfilms with important awards in national and international festivals. Egresada del Centro de Capacitación Cinematográfica especializada en dirección y producción. Promotora audiovisual y de cultura general enfocada en la creación de nuevos circuitos para la exhibición fílmica y en la promoción del cine contemporáneo en México y Latinoamérica a través de la organización Circo 2.12.

En 2004 creó el Festival Internacional de Cine Contemporáneo FICCO (2004 -2008) y en 2010 tomó la Dirección general de la Cineteca Nacional de México (2010 – 2013) donde encabezó su remodelación. Fundadora y directora artística del festival Distrital, co-dirige el laboratorio de proyectos Tres puertos Cine. Forma parte del equipo de tutores del BRLab en Sao Paulo, Brasil y en CAI México.

Ha continuado su carrera como productora en la realización de Inzomnia, primer largometraje de animación stop-motion hecho en México, además de colaborar en la creación del largometraje de Raúl Fuentes, Contra el amor y el documental de Jaime Cohen, Omar y Gloria, de estreno reciente. Actualmente, es directora del área de cine de Home Films y es profesora en CENTRO y SAE.

Es licenciada en ciencias de la comunicación. Estudió Pintura e ilustración en España. Se ha especializado en la producción de cine animado. Hoy en día se encuentra en la etapa de preproducción de su primer largometraje animado stop motion y en producción de su tercer cortometraje animado stop motion Jack y la muerte.

En 2006 dirigió su primer cortometraje y en 2008 estrena Jacinta, cortometraje ganador en festivales como Ariel, Festival de Cine de Morelia, Guadalajara y Cancún Riviera Maya, entre otros y formó parte de la preselección en los premios Oscar en 2009 y fue presentado en Cannes. En 2009 dirige diez cortometrajes animados en 2d con motivo del Bicentenario y Centenario de la independencia y Revolución mexicana.

En 2011, dirige Félix, el coleccionista de miedos, un cortometraje stop motion que actualmente se transmite en canal 11 y fue reconocido con el premio especial del jurado en el festival de Brasil, Stop Motion del mismo año. En 2012, dirige el cortometraje, La noria, obra galardonada en 22 festivales como el Ariel, Cannes, Annecy y otros festivales internacionales. En 2013 colabora en la producción del corto Requesón, ganando posteriormente el premio a Mejor Cortometraje Unitario, Premios TAL 2014 en Uruguay. En 2016 y hasta la actualidad, realiza diseño de producción para el largometraje stop motion animado Inzomnia del director Luis Téllez.

Ha participado en múltiples talleres de guión, storyboard y animación, encuentros de escritores cinematográficos y como jurado de distintos festivales de cine en México y el extranjero.

Actualmente es presidente de Style Hotels International para la región y Style Image Management. A lo largo de su carrera ha fundado y desarrollado 18 bancos de alimentos en 15 países de la región a fin de mejorar la calidad de vida de las comunidades. Además de fundar las organizaciones, Egyptian Cure Bank, Egyptian Clothing Bank and Capacity Building Bank que ofrecen servicios de salud, proporcionan refugio y ropa y crean oportunidades para los más necesitados.

En 1992 se le concedió el premio de “Opinión Pública Internacional”. Ha sido elegido como jurado para la Competencia Nacional de Egipto “Enactus”, red global de estudiantes, líderes académicos y empresarios, comprometidos con el desarrollo sustentable. También ha participado como jurado desde 2014 para Competencia Anual Humanitaria “Doing Good Campaign”.

Empezó su carrera profesional en el mundo del cine y el espectáculo en 1989 después de cursar sus estudios en realización y producción de cine y televisión en IDEP Barcelona. En 1998 mientras trabajaba en una producción de cine se le propone producir la 5ta. Edición del Festival Internacional de Cine del Medio Ambiente ( FICMA) y en 2002 la dirección de la Mostra Lambda de Barcelona, dejando ese año la producción del FICMA. Durante algunos años trabajó como guionista para proyectos de televisión y algunas producciones cinematográficas.

En 2006 ayuda a fundar el FICTGAY en la Ciudad de México, un festival de Cine y Teatro con la misión de intercambiar culturas entre México y España. En el año 2011 crea el PETIT FICMA un Festival de Cine ecológico para niños donde se aprende a la par del cine y ecología. A partir de 2005 se retira de Mostra Lambda y se posiciona como Director del Festival Internacional de Cine de Medio Ambiente, FICMA, hasta la actualidad.

An elder couple who has grown working the land with what nature has provided. Their cows, hens, lambs and grain fields are their only possessions and way of living. A message on the use of resources in a responsible way and a sustainable food production, giving local producers a voice.

Ser ganadores del Ecofilm Festival es algo que todavía no nos creemos. Ecofilm ha sido un festival que siempre había llamado mi atención, pero nunca me sentía con el conocimiento suficiente para participar. Hace un par de años conocimos a Fabrice Villaumé y Jazmín Noriega en la filmación de un cortometraje y nos enseñaron un poco de su estilo de vida auto sustentable y es así como llegó la posibilidad de colaborar para el Ecofilm, ellos aportando su conocimiento y nosotros la parte creativa y visual, lo único que nos faltaba era encontrar una historia.

Fabrice y Jazmín nos compartieron varias historias del pueblo de Tlazala. Cuando escuchamos la historia de Don Mateo y Doña Francisca inmediatamente llamó nuestra atención; una pareja que lleva más de sesenta años llevando un estilo de vida sustentable, representando a un escaso número de productores locales que están desapareciendo paulatinamente. Lo más bonito de esta historia fue darle voz a muchos que no la tienen.

No nos queda más que agradecer al Ecofilm y a todas las instituciones públicas y privadas que se unen para hacer posible que como realizadores podamos aportar al cambio, así como por motivar y promover trabajos que más allá de informar, mueven a la gente a crear un mejor planeta.

Being winners of the Ecofilm Festival is something that we still cannot believe. Ecofilm has been a festival that always caught my attention, but I never felt with sufficient knowledge to participate. A couple of years ago, we met Fabrice Villaumé and Jazmín Noriega during the filming of a short film and they showed us a little bit of their self-sustainable lifestyle and that is how the possibility of collaborating for Ecofilm arrived, them, contributed their knowledge and us, contributing the creative and visual part. The only thing that we lacked was a story.

Fabrice and Jasmine shared several stories of the Tlazala town. When we heard the Don Mateo and Doña Francisca’s story, it immediately caught our attention; a couple that has led a sustainable lifestyle for more than sixty years, representing a scarce number of local producers that are gradually disappearing. The most beautiful thing about this story was giving a voice to many who do not have one.

We have only to thank Ecofilm and all the public and private institutions that come together to make it possible for filmmakers to contribute to change, as well as to motivate and promote works that, beyond informing, move people to create a better planet.

La experiencia que tuve en el Ecofilm Festival 2017 fue muy enriquecedora, ya que tuve la fortuna de poder asistir a gran parte de las proyecciones de cortometrajes y me llevé nuevos conocimientos de cada una de las cuatro categorías que participan año con año.

Como ganador de la categoría de animación tuve la experiencia de poder asistir a una ceremonia increíblemente bien organizada que me mantenía en el filo de mi butaca cada que se iban anunciando los ganadores de las diferentes categorías. Tener la oportunidad de ver el cortometraje que estuviste desarrollando a lo largo de varios meses en pantalla grande es increíblemente emocionante. Compartir tus ideas y narrativa con gente del medio audiovisual y expertos del medio ambiente, te permite redescubrir la importancia que tienen los cortometrajes para concientizar a las personas de las problemáticas actuales. Espero con ansias la próxima convocatoria para poder volver a vivir el sueño de ayudar a través de la animación.

The experience I had at the Ecofilm Festival 2017 was very enriching, since I had the fortune to attend a large part of the short film screenings and gained new knowledge of each of the four categories that participate year after year.

As the winner of the animation category, I had the experience of attending an incredibly well-organized ceremony that kept me on the edge of my seat as winners were announced in the different categories. To have the opportunity to see the short film I had been developing over several months on the big screen was incredibly exciting. Sharing my ideas and narrative with people in the audiovisual sector and environmental experts allowed me to rediscover the importance that short films have in raising people’s awareness regarding current issues. I look forward to the next call for entries to be able to relive the dream of helping through animation.

Esta es la cuarta vez que, como director o como colaborador en la realización de un cortometraje, participo en ECOFILM. Es la primera vez que gano un premio como director y la segunda como colaborador. Debo decir que, independientemente del resultado, siempre ha sido una experiencia emocionante.

Emocionante porque desde que empieza la realización del video, el proceso creativo estimula la imaginación y la inventiva: ¿cómo hago para comunicar el mensaje de una manera clara y sencilla? Emocionante porque, una vez que envías el paquete al concurso te inunda el ansia por saber si la obra será seleccionada. Si es seleccionada, sigue la emoción de ignorar si llegará a ser finalista. ¡Y si es finalista, la ansiedad se vuelve en desbordante alegría! Al final, en la ceremonia de premiación, los nervios llegan al máximo: estar en la base del increíble Museo Soumaya, rodeado de arte y de gente creativa y talentosa, ver los videos seleccionados mientras el corazón casi se sale del pecho… y al final la satisfacción de recibir un premio.

Pero lo más emocionante no es solamente la posibilidad de ganar el generoso premio que Hombre Naturaleza ofrece, sino saber que estás formando parte de algo mayor, de algo importante: los seres humanos pertenecemos a la Tierra, a la vida, y pensar que con nuestros esfuerzos de comunicación mediante el arte de la animación estamos contribuyendo, aunque sea un poco, a hacer crecer esa conciencia que puede motivar a que protejamos la Tierra y la vida, es lo más emocionante de todo.

This was the fourth time that I participated in ECOFILM as a director or collaborator in the making of a short film. It was the first time that I win a prize as director and the second as a collaborator. I must say that, regardless of the result, it has always been an exciting experience.

Exciting because, when the filmmaking starts, the creative process stimulates imagination and inventiveness: how do I convey the message in a clear and simple way? Exciting because, when you send the packet to the contest, you are filled with the desire to know if your work will be selected. If selected, the emotions of not knowing if it will become a finalist follow. And if it is a finalist, the anxiety becomes an overflowing joy! At the end, at the award ceremony, nerves reach their maximum: being there at the incredible Soumaya Museum, surrounded by art and creative and talented people, watching the selected videos while one’s heart is jumping out of one’s chest... and, at the end, the satisfaction of receiving a prize.

But the most exciting thing is not only the possibility of winning the generous prize that Hombre Naturaleza offers, but knowing that you are part of something bigger, something important: human beings belong to the Earth, to life, and realizing that we are contributing, even a little, to growing that awareness that can motivate us to protect the Earth and life with our communication efforts through the art of animation is the most exciting thing of all.

Carlos es un #FoodLover, fanático de comer y compartir con sus amigos; mediante redes sociales; las delicias que consume diariamente. Indiferente ante sus semejantes con menos suerte económica, se sumerge en las mágicas imágenes llenas de filtros y color que su celular le muestra. Su pasatiempo favorito, la comida con estilo y en exceso. La pasión por la comida y los restaurantes buffet, ha convertido a Carlos en un consumidor compulsivo, lo que no podrá ser sostenido con la producción existente… ¿qué será lo que le saciará el apetito?.

Carlos is a #FoodLover. He is a fan of eating and sharing with his friends, through social networks, the delights he daily eat. Blind about those with less money, he gets submerged in the magic images filled with filters and colors that his cellphone displays. His favorite hobby is food in style and in excess. His passion for restaurants and buffets, has transformed Carlos into a compulsive consumer. His hunger is unsustainable with the current food production. What will ever suffice Carlos›s appetite?

Dudabamos que lograríamos concluir a tiempo, fue la voluntad y el apoyo entre nosotras lo que nos permitió concretar comiéndonos. Se trató de sacrificar nuestro tiempo libre, literal los últimos días estuvimos enclaustradas en un mismo espacio para terminar.

Tenemos el sueño de forjar sólidamente un camino en la industria, produciendo juntas. Ecofilm nos ha dado el pretexto y nosotras las ganas; junto a otros talentos que nos han apoyado; para participar. Gracias Ecofilm por estar presente desde el 2013, año que quedamos finalistas y nos motivó a no parar. Ahora 2017 significa un motivo más para continuar dedicando esfuerzo a producir contenido de valor. Agradecemos a todos los que nos han apoyado, deseamos seguir topando con gente bonita. En resumen, vivimos “las mil y un formas de querer tirar la toalla…y no hacerlo”. Con sus horas de no dormir, de no comer, frustración, software ralentizado y crasheado, risas, llanto, desacuerdos, conciliaciones, negociaciones, adrenalina producida, así como la cafeína y teobromina consumida. Cuando escuches esa voz en la cabeza que te dice “no lo vas a lograr”, procura silenciarla y continúa con lo que deseas realizar. Nunca sabes si esa voz te niegue la oportunidad de emocionarte, gritar y sorprenderte por obtener un tercer lugar en animación.

We doubted that we would be able to conclude on time, it was the will and the support among us that allowed us to finish Comiéndonos.

We had to sacrifice our free time, literally the last days we were cloistered in the same space to finish. We have the dream of solidly forging a path in the industry, producing together. Ecofilm has given us the pretext and we want it; along with other talents that have supported us; to participate. Thank you Ecofilm for being present since 2013, the year we were finalists and motivated us not to stop. Now 2017 means one more reason to continue dedicating effort to producing valuable content. We thank all those who have supported us, we wish to continue meeting beautiful people. In short, we live «the thousand and one ways of wanting to give up... and not do it». With its hours of not sleeping, not eating, frustration, software slowed down and crashed, laughter, tears, disagreements, conciliations, negotiations, adrenaline produced, as well as caffeine and theobromine consumed. When you hear that voice in your head that says «you will not achieve it», try to silence it and continue with what you want to do. You never know if that voice denies you the opportunity to get excited, scream and surprise yourself for getting a third place in animation.

EL ORIGEN DEL SABOR / THE ORIGINSOF FLAVOUR

Todo surge de la necesidad de hacer cine; en este caso, documental. Lo hacemos para entender la verdad y aprender de ella, pues es la única forma de transmitirla, sin importar la espera ni los contratiempos. En mi camino conocí a Arturo Huicochea, amigo y colega.

Le platiqué sobre el festival ECOFILM y, sin pensarlo dos veces, me dijo que hiciéramos un proyecto. Fue entonces cuando comenzó mi búsqueda de una buena propuesta, que narrara y mostrara la forma en que podemos transformar la calidad, diversidad y creatividad en el cultivo y consumo de alimentos para obtener el verdadero sentir y sabor de la buena alimentación. Fueron tres semanas de trabajo intenso, rodeada de personas que me dieron su apoyo y conocimiento, que me dieron su tiempo; personas que son la clave de un gran equipo. Llegó el momento de inscribir el documental en la plataforma, faltaban dos horas para el cierre, me sudaban las manos. Cada momento valió la pena, solo quedaba esperar. De pronto, llegó la noticia: éramos parte de la selección oficial. Grité de la emoción, porque fue la primera forma de ganar.

Me sorprendí al ver las reacciones de la gente durante la proyección del documental en la Cineteca Nacional, pues el proyecto despertó interés no solo como producto audiovisual, sino como una posibilidad real para cambiar y tener una vida más saludable. Nos invitaron a la premiación y las cosas pasaron muy rápido. El anuncio: Primer Lugar en la Categoría Documental… Con los ojos cerrados escuché “El Origen del Sabor”. La piel se me puso chinita y una fuerza, que no puedo explicar, atravesó todo mi cuerpo al comenzar la proyección. Lo vi, lo escuché, lo sentí. Y aún ahora pienso que a esto sabe la felicidad.

Everything arises from the need to make films; in this case, documentaries. We do it to understand the truth and learn from it, because it is the only way to transmit it, regardless of the wait or setbacks.

Along my path, I met Arturo Huicochea, a friend and colleague. I told him about the ECOFILM festival and, without thinking twice, he told me to do a project together. That was when my search for a good proposal began, which would narrate and show how we can transform quality, diversity and creativity in the growing and consumption of food to get the true sense and taste of good nutrition. It was three weeks of intense work, surrounded by people who gave me their support and knowledge, who gave me their time; people who are the key to a great team. The time came to enter the documentary on the platform, it was two hours before closing, my hands were sweating. Every moment was worth it, we could only wait. Suddenly, the news came: we were part of the official selection. I screamed with emotion, because it was our first win. I was surprised to see people’s reactions during the screening of the documentary in the National Film Archives, because the project aroused interest not only as an audiovisual product, but as a real possibility to change and have a healthier life. We were invited to the award ceremony and things happened very fast. The announcement: First Prize in the Documentary Category... With my eyes closed, I heard «El Origen del Sabor». I got goose bumps all over and a force I can not explain crossed my whole body when the screening began. I saw it, I heard it, I felt it. And still today I feel this is how happiness tastes like.

La alta cocina en México ha tomado un papel importante en la implementación de huertos urbanos, ofreciendo productos de alta calidad, con mayores nutrientes y sin químicos como pesticidas. Esta tendencia también busca que los comensales implemente este método en sus propios hogares. Lily Foster la directora general de Huertos Urbanos tiene como visión a futuro la proliferación de los huertos comunitarios en las ciudades aprovechando espacios como las azoteas de los edificios como un método alimentario que beneficie a los habitantes, genere oxigeno y se recicle el 40% de la basura que se genera en la ciudades.

El haber participado en la Séptima Edición ECOFILM fue una experiencia que nos permitió constatar la inquietud que tenemos en México para hacer algo importante en torno a nuestro medio ambiente.

Tratamos de plasmar a través de nuestro documental Del Huerto a la Cocina un cambio que estamos viviendo en la forma de contribuir a una mejora real en la calidad y proceso de obtención de nuestros alimentos. El tratar temas como el de la alimentación sustentable nos parece algo apasionante dada la situación actual del planeta, poderlo plasmar en un documental y aportar nuestro granito de arena a la causa es algo que nos deja mucha satisfacción.

El tema que tratamos de abordar es el de la creación de huertos urbanos y como los restaurantes y en general las personas que vivimos en la ciudades deberíamos implementarlos ya que los beneficios lograrían colaborar a la disminución de nuestra huella ecológica que impacta nuestro entorno.

Al ver los trabajos de todos los participantes con tan variados enfoques en el tema, nos damos cuenta del grave problema al que nos enfrentamos los seres humanos, sin embargo estamos motivados a buscar y enfrentar estos problemas con soluciones reales y es por eso que el festival tiene además de una gran calidad de obras cinematográficas un valor importante en la concientización del tema. Sin duda una experiencia inolvidable que nos deja mucho aprendizaje y el poder apoyar a una causa tan importante como lo es el medio ambiente haciendo lo que nos gusta, es algo que no tiene precio y que estamos seguros que el próximo año lo volveremos hacer.

Having participated in the Seventh Edition of ECOFILM International Festival for Environmental Short Films was an experience that allowed us to prove the concern we have in Mexico to do something important related to our environment.

With our documentary Del huerto a la Cocina, we tried to capture the change we are going through in the way of contributing to a real improvement in the quality and the process of obtaining our food.

Dealing with issues such as sustainable food is exciting for us, given the current situation of the planet, to be able to capture it in a documentary and contribute our bit to the cause is something that gives us a lot of satisfaction.

The issue we are trying to address is the creation of urban orchards and how restaurants and city-dwellers in general should implement them, since the benefits would contribute to the reduction of our ecological footprint that impacts our environment.

When we see the works of all the participants with such varied approaches to the subject, we realize the serious problem that human beings face, however we are motivated to seek and face these problems with real solutions, and that is why, on top of the great quality of film works, the festival has an important value in the awareness of the subject. It was undoubtedly an unforgettable experience that taught us a lot and being able to support a cause as important as the environment by doing what we love was priceless and we are sure that we will do it again next year.

Una orden de Tacos al Pastor, no sólo es una orden de Tacos al Pastor. Es la radiografía de la comida que se desperdicia en México en las diferentes fases de la cadena productiva: producción, industrialización, distribución, compra y consumo. “Don´t Wasty“ nos muestra cómo se pierde más de un tercio de los alimentos producidos en el país y cómo todos cargamos con una parte de la responsabilidad y solución para revertir este problema.

An order of Tacos al Pastor is not what it looks like. It´s a trip into the amount of food that is wasted in Mexico in the different phases of the production process: postharvesting, processing, distribution, retail and consumption. “Don´t Wasty” show us how more than a third of the food that is produced is lost, and how everybody has a certain amount of responsibility for a part of the problem.

Participar en el Ecofilm es una experiencia casi obligatoria para todos aquellos que queremos hacer cine. Siempre es un reto lograr un resultado innovador y evitar caer en clichés al hablar de temas ecológicos en un cortometraje.

Este año no fue la excepción ya que contar una historia entrañable acerca del desperdicio de comida no fue nada sencillo. Esta gran aventura no solamente nos enseñó diversas maneras de abordar temas complejos como este, además acercó y sensibilizó mucho a todo el equipo respecto al desperdicio de comida. Es muy gratificante lograr un cortometraje con pocos recursos y poco tiempo para producirlo con la calidad necesaria para ser un ganador dentro del festival. Este año inscribimos 3 trabajos de los cuales 2 quedaron en 3er lugar en sus respectivas categorías y uno quedo como nominado. Todo el proceso del festival es muy emocionante desde que revelan el tema hasta la premiación. Cada parte se vive muy intensamente ya que desde un principio debes generar una idea en poco tiempo y que se pueda crear con pocos recursos. Juntar a los miembros del equipo también es un reto ya que debes encontrar gente apasionada por el cine y que estén dispuestos a dedicarle el tiempo y energía necesarios al proyecto. Como siempre en la producción muchas cosas se salen de control y es el momento para improvisar y hacer todo lo necesario por terminar el proyecto. A partir de ese momento todo es nervios y emoción desde conocer la selección oficial, los finalistas, los nominados y los ganadores. Participar en el Ecofilm es une experiencia inigualable que le recomendaría a cualquier apasionado de hacer cine.

This year was no exception since telling a heartfelt story about food waste was not easy.

This great adventure not only taught us different ways to address complex issues like this one, but it also brought a lot of awarenes to the entire team regarding food waste. It is very rewarding to achieve a short film with few resources and little time to produce with the necessary quality to be a winner in the festival. This year, we entered three works into the festival, two won 3rd prize in their corresponding categories and one was nominated. The whole festival process is very exciting, from the reveal of the theme to the award ceremony. Ser parte de Ecofilm por segunda vez, es algo por lo que mi equipo y yo estamos infinitamente agradecidos. Hace dos años, este festival cambió nuestras vidas de manera totalmente inesperada y regresar en esta edición fue una experiencia muy especial para nosotros. Nos sentimos realmente afortunados de que en nuestro país exista un festival de cine como este, que para nosotros es una plataforma, no sólo para dar a conocer nuestro trabajo, pero para iniciar conversaciones sobre lo que creemos que son algunos de los temas más relevantes de hoy en día.

Being part of Ecofilm for the second time is something my team and I are infinitely grateful for. Two years ago, this festival changed our lives in a totally unexpected way and returning in this edition was a very special experience for us. Participar en Ecofilm Festival representa un reto, mirarse al espejo y enfrentar lo que vemos del otro lado, nuestro contexto social, cultural, político y económico, cuestionar la infinidad de posibilidades que no probamos por permanecer en un solo lugar. Una vez que se ha chocado con la realidad se debe plantear una forma de traducirla a un medio audiovisual, a un lenguaje que debe de complacer a la vista y el oído trascendiendo a estos sentidos para que se pueda adherir a la conciencia generando un aprendizaje.

Este año, ha sido un proceso muy difícil de abordar en todos los sentidos. Sin embargo, algo que mantiene a mi espíritu en calma es el saber que participar en Ecofilm Festival es también un trabajo en equipo, hay muchísimas personas trabajando por una misma finalidad, llevando el tema a distintos sitios, complementándose los trabajos unos a otros, y el saber que esa difícil tarea tiene una recompensa al final y ser uno de los premiados provoca cierta satisfacción que es solo mediada por el hecho de que sabes que estás ayudando de alguna manera a distribuir un conocimiento muy importante.

Taking part in Ecofilm Festival represents a challenge, to look ourselves in the mirror and face what we see on the other side, our social, cultural, political and economic context. To question the infinite possibilities we do not try in order to remain in one place. Once we have crashed against reality, we must consider a way of translating it into an audiovisual medium, a language that must please the eye and the ear, transcending these senses so that it can adhere itself to consciousness thus generating learning.

This year has been a very difficult process to address in every step. However, something that keeps my spirit calm is knowing that participating in Ecofilm Festival is also a team effort, there are a lot of people working for the same purpose, taking the subject to different places, the works complementing each other, and knowing that this difficult task has a reward in the end and being one of the winners causes some satisfaction that is only mediated by the fact that you know that you are helping to distribute a very important knowledge in some way.

VFS CCHOLARSHIPECOFILM ha sido un escaparate donde hemos tenido la oportunidad de conocer gente comprometida, talentosa, pero sobre todo, con ánimo de cambiar las cosas.

Cada año los temas suelen ser un reto, ya que hay mil formas de abordar los problemas que aquejan a la humanidad. Hablar de alimentos sustentables era complicado, pero creímos que teníamos que hacerlo de la forma más directa y honesta posible, así surgió “llámalo por su nombre” que refleja actos comunes donde la gente desperdicia alimentos haciéndolo ver como un acto criminal. Esta vez tuvimos la suerte de recibir un premio y eso nos obliga a seguir trabajando con más fuerza para hacer que el proyecto que presentamos trascienda y sea visto por más personas.

Gracias a ECOFILM por reconocernos y esperamos sean ustedes los embajadores de nuestro trabajo y lo hagan llegar a muchos más lugares.Más allá de los premios.De subir a un escenario.Es saber que estamos haciendo algo.

ECOFILM has been a showcase where we have had the opportunity to meet committed and talented people, but above all, eager to change things.
