fantastic first assembly for the year. It was
truly terrific and what wonderful school
leaders you will all make!
Next Friday's assembly will be hosted by
Year 6 students of Room 21. The school looks
forward to all family and friends attending.
Dont forget the new start time of 9am.

Tribes
Tribes still remains the basis for our focus on
values across the school and has been in place
for many years. The process aims to teach
students processes to cooperate, interact with
others and to build a positive culture for
learning and human development throughout
the school. The Five Tribes Agreements form
the basis of our relationships in the school
and are consistently supported throughout all
classes.
The Tribes Agreements are as follows:
1. Personal Best
2. Appreciation - No Put Downs
3. Attentive Listening
4. Mutual Respect
5. Right to Pass

Winner!
Congratulations goes to Emily Wiggins in Year 5
who came first in her cycling division in Perth on
Sunday 15 February. Well done, Emily!
Emily competed in an event called Renaes
Race , that started in 2001 and has been held on
the same circuit at Technology Park, Bentley,
ever since.
This is a special event for female cyclists, in
memory of Renae Baker who was an up and
coming cyclist. The race consisted of laps around
a 1.2km road circuit for 15mins and then two
more laps to finish.
There were 4 girls in her division.
P&C Meeting
The first P&C Meeting for 2015 will be held on
Wednesday 25 February at 3.30pm in the Early
Childhood Centre area. P&C Membership is only
$1 and you can join on the day or pay in the
school office. Please try to attend, children can
play in the pre-primary yard. Coffee and cake
provided!
Crosswalks
Students need to use the crosswalks provided on
Beaufort Road, one opposite the hall and
administration area and one near the John Calvin
School. If there is a need to cross Chester Pass
Road they need to use the one with the lights.
We have had recent complaints about students
riding their bikes across the crosswalks. They
need to alight and wheel their bikes over.
School Banking
Many thanks to our new School Banking
Coordinator, Chloe Parry, for volunteering to run
the before school banking on Tuesdays in the hall
from 8.30am to 8.50am. New accounts can be
opened through the Commonwealth Bank, see
Chloe for details. A percentage from the banking
is reimbursed to the Yakamia P&C.
Headlice
Please remember to check your childs hair for
headlice. We have had several cases this week
and need your help to ensure the problem doesnt
continue.

iDEVICES FOR LEARNING from MMC (Mrs McIntosh) 2015 Term 1 Week 3
This year, the K/PP and PP classes are getting some teaching and learning time with me. We are
going slowly and learning how to do different work related tasks on the iPads. So far, we have
used a drawing app (Digit Draw - free) to draw different things, including shapes and colours, and
a bird! We are learning to save our work to the Photos, so that it can be used to document our
learning. We are learning to handle the iPads carefully, how to sleep and wake up an iPad so that
we can listen to the teachers instructions. We will be using an app called ChatterKid (also free) to
make a drawing talk. There are many ways to use an iPad (or other device) to enhance learning. If
you would like more information about this, please contact me.
Our blog is updated with educational apps that are currently free. The blog is - at-
yakamia.blogspot.com
You can subscribe to receive emails when there is a new post.
If you have a code scanner, you can scan this code to go directly to the blog.
All students from Year 2 up have accessed Skoolbo in class, and are loving it. Skoolbo is an
educational app, and website, and is self-monitoring. Students work at their own level, progressing
through literacy and numeracy tasks (games) in a game- like setting. Your child/ren should have a
login to use. If not, please see your teacher. Or me...

Free Dress Day Fund Raiser
Today the Student Councillors ran a Free Dress Day for the Galang Kasih school in Bali.
Many thanks to the students and parents for their generosity, a total of $382.75 was raised!
This school is in a very poor area of Bali and this donation will help them buy many
educational resources.

YMCA Albany Early Learning Centre is a not-for-profit early learning centre located on 35 Beaufort Road (opposite Yakamia School). We are a highly accredited centre with staff that is enthusiastic, dedicated and highly educated. As a team we have developed a program that reflects the interests of the children, based on the Centres philosophy and the belief and commitment to the YMCAs Approach to Learning. The program encourages spontaneity and reflects the childrens curiosity. By taking the learning journey with the child, we hope to facilitate their learning. We believe the learning process that the children go through is important to the childs holistic development. We also believe in a close relationship with all families attending our centre. The centre provides nutritious home-cooked meals in a comfortable home environment.
We are open Monday to Friday between 7.30am to 6pm. There are vacancies available in all age groups most days. For more information please come and visit us or call Anneli on 9842
