The second issue was published during October 2015

This issue gives glimpses of some of the important events

that the Hon Governorshri graced during October 2015 to

December 2015 It gives details about a few in-house

programmes within the Raj Bhavan premises It also gives

d e t a i l s o f s o m e p r o g r a m m e s g r a c e d b y t h e

HonGovernorshri outside the Raj Bhavan Details of the

distinguished visitors of the Raj Bhavan are also given

The present issue contains all the regular features

Besides we have tried to give abstracts of a few important

speeches delivered by the Hon Governorshri during the

events that he graced We have published Hon

Governorshris messages to the people of Gujarat during

important festivals and events We have also given an

abstract of the Hon Governorshris programmes We hope

that these added features would be helpful in giving a

general idea about the Hon Governorshris activities to the

public

Shri OP Kohli Hon Governorshri interacted with about 100 senior citizens of Mehmdabad district Kheda Dr

Mahesh Parikh the founder of the Senior Citizens Forum brought them to the Raj Bhavan Gandhinagar on

1102015 Senior citizens from Gandhinagar led by Shri Arun Buch and others from the Gandhinagar Shaher

After a detailed interaction with the senior citizens on various social issues Shri OP Kohli Hon Governorshri

Launching of the 66th TB Seal Campaign of the

Gujarat State Tuberculosis Association Ahmedabad (2112015)

Shri OP Kohli Hon Governorshri launched the 66th TB

Seal Campaign of the Gujarat State Tuberculosis

Association Ahmedabad at a small function organized at

the Raj Bhavan Gandhinagar on 2112015 by contributing

his mite to the campaign

Hon Governorshri appreciated the initiative taken by the

members of the Gujarat State Tuberculosis Association

Ahmedabad which was in tune with the policies of the

Central and the State Governments towards the eradication

of the TB He complimented the doctors and others

associated with this noble task and expressed the hope that

they would continue to do good work with the same

enthusiasm and dedication in future too

Mahatma Gandhiji is to follow his ideology both

was a matter of great pleasure to see that the Ex-servicemen of

the country were participating in various community projects for the overall welfare of the society at large after a

prolonged dedicated career in our Armed Forces He observed that with the rich experience that they have gathered

during their active service in the Armed Forces they could work as a motivated force in inspiring our young

generation across the country to serve the society

He further stated that they have a vast experience not only in war but also in disaster management working during

natural calamities and they can use this expertise meaningfully in their post retirement life He blessed them and

gave them his good wishes for serving the nation even during the fag end of their life

Hon Governorshri observed that a few

journalists always believe that they are there to

serve the society with a missionary zeal and not to

earn mere livelihood They have to serve as a

useful link between the Government and the

society by putting true facts before the society

He complimented Shri Tanna for his commitment

to his profession He also complimented the Sadhana Publications for their initiative to publicly felicitate a veteran

journalist The programme was attended by journalists academicians dignitaries and others in large number

that the South Western Command of the Indian

Air Force has been doing excellent job in a

professional manner keeping in view the high

standards of our Armed Forces He stated that

apart from its traditional duty of defending the

country in the times of war the Air Force has

been helping civil administration quite a lot

during natural calamities He made a special

mention of the service recently rendered by the

South Western Air Command during the heavy floods in the north Gujarat He conveyed his deep appreciation to the

members of the Air Force who were associated with the rescue and relief operations He complimented them for

their valour as well as humanitarian approach and wished them good luck in the service of the nation

In his Inaugural address Hon Governorshri observed that our Indian folklore has been instrumental in keeping

alive the great values for which our civilization has stood for in oral form It contains a rich heritage of our great

culture and civilization While complimenting the Indian Folklore Congress for organizing an International

Conference for discussing the rich contribution of our ancient literature that has been aptly reflected in our epics

through centuries he expressed the hope that the participants in the conference would have an opportunity to discuss

various aspects of our neglected folklore He also hoped they would find out ways and means to preserve our rich

heritage of folklore

The programme was attended by participants from various countries as well as other States of the country subject

experts on folklore and experts on Indian civilization in large number

An ensemble of Folk dancesand music of Gujarat at

A cultural extravaganza of folk dances and music of Gujarat was

presented before Shri Pranab Mukherjee Hon President of India at

the Rashtrapati Bhavan New Delhi on 17102015 as a part of ldquoIndra

Dhanushyardquo cultural series The presentation was part of

Government of Indias endeavour to showcase the richness diversity

and magnificence of various States of the country

Gujarat was the first State to demonstrate its cultural richness

wherein more than 125 artists across the State exhibited their talents

in various forms of folk dances

The programme was witnessed by Shri Pranab Mukherjee Hon

President of India Shri OP Kohli Hon Governorshri of Gujarat

and Smt Anandiben Patel Hon Chief Minister of Gujarat together

Shri OP Kohli Hon Governorshri released the Gujarati version of a book named ldquoDeen Dayal Upadhyay Kartavya ane Vicharrdquo translated by Shri Mahesh Chandraji at a function organized by the Bharatiya Vichar Manch Ahmedabad on 24102015

In his occasional address on the occasion Hon Governorshri observed that Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay had propagated the theory of integral humanism which was in line with the vision as visualized in Indian civilization by our ancient thinkers It is an ideology which has answers to almost all the evils that the modern society is facing Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyayji believed that the governance of the country should be based on the principles of integral humanism

HonGovernorshri further stated that DrMahesh Chandra Sharma is a dedicated and committed student of the integral humanism and has devoted many years of intensive research on various facets of Pandit Upadhyayjis philosophy The Gujarati version of the book would provide useful information to all those who are interested in understanding the philosophy of integral humanism

GJ Vachani the General Secretary of the National

Association for the Blind Gujarat State Branch as well

Junagadh district branch on their completion of 75

years Both of them were born blind and had dedicated

their lives for the welfare of the blind people He also

bull Distinguished participants from the country and abroad researchers academicians ladies and gentlemen It indeed gives me a great pleasure to meet all of you at the International Seminar on ldquoEnergizing Cultures The Eco-Centric Indian Experiencerdquo jointly organized by the Department of Sanskrit Gujarat University and Shiv-Yog Foundation New Delhi

bull Today human society is facing ecological crisis largely of its own making the consequences of which would be borne by our future generations and also drastically alter our lives in the immediate future We would perhaps face unprecedented mass extinctions of oral and faunal species and rise in sea levels and temperatures many severe storms and ooding to unrestrained ecological destruction unregulated industrialization and runaway consumption by a globally concerned and market driven society

bull The above phenomenon makes us think about preserving environment at all costs Our research and technology should be oriented towards conservation Appropriate environmentally sound policies need to be chalked out with long-t e rm commi tmen t Wheneve r t he re i s demographic pressure on land off- farm employment opportunities should be created Indigenous soil and water conservation techniques should be used and encouraged Adequate attention should be given to agro-forestry programmes All remedial actions should b e c o n c e i v e d w i t h i n a p a r t i c i p a t o r y conservation-oriented development strategy Participation of the resource users has to be ensured

bull Mahatma Gandhi the Father of the Nation had grasped the essence of preservation of harmonious ecological balance long before the very conception of the global warming He had said ldquoThe earth has enough for everyones needs but not for anyones greedrdquo

bull We must be caut ious about the nature conservation We should meet our needs without compromising the abili ty of the future generations to meet their own Whether our children will be able to enjoy the fruits of development or will suffer the ill consequences It depends upon what legacy we are going to leave behind us for them today It is in this context it has become absolutely inevitable to accelerate the pace of development in an environmentally responsible manner

bull I am sure that the distinguished participants of this Seminar will go through a wide spectrum of the allied elds related to the subject They will share their experiences and views on this particular subject which will be fruitful for the society at large

bull Our culture is based on wisdom nurtured by hundreds and thousands of saints social workers and people at large Let this wisdom prevail upon us and let us all together pray for the better future for everyone on this earth I am encouraged by the fact that conservation and protection of the environment as also love for nature have always been a part and parcel of the ethos and traditions of our ancient culture Out scriptures teach us respect for nature and its ve elements ndash earth re water air and the sky as a precondition for peace and harmony in life
